It is heartbreaking when affection itself brings discomfort, and when a companion who was so full of warmth now sits apart and stares. Your grief is real, and God sees it.
Scripture calls Him the God of all comfort, the One who stands by in the darkest hours to strengthen and encourage. In affliction He does not leave us alone. He draws near to comfort, and His Word brings hope and life when our hearts are in turmoil. There are times when grief is so great that words fail, as when Job's friends first saw his suffering and simply sat with him in silence because they saw his grief was great. You do not need perfect words right now. You can rest in His merciful kindness and let His compassion carry you.
You have asked God for healing, and it is right to do so. He is the Lord who heals, and the Gospels show how large a part of Jesus' ministry was touching and healing those who were sick and afflicted. He is moved with compassion for suffering. At the same time healing remains a sovereign work of God in His hands. The apostle Paul, who saw many miracles, also prayed three times for his own thorn in the flesh and was not healed in the way he asked, and he spoke of a fellow worker who was sick near to death. We do not always know why He heals some and not others, and it is wrong to put guilt on those who suffer or on those who love them as if faith were measured by an outcome. We can bring every request to Him with confidence in Jesus' name, trusting His wisdom, His mercy, and His love to do what is best.
I am praying with you that the Lord would have mercy on your cat, ease any pain or distress, and help her breathe more easily. I am asking Him to help her to eat and drink again and to have normal bodily functions, and to give you wisdom and steadiness of hand as you give the pills, the inhaler, and the fluids. Those tasks are difficult and can feel distressing for both of you, and God can guide you in each decision with gentleness and calm. I am also praying that He would give you clear guidance for the days ahead, and that if her time to die does come, He would show mercy and spare her fear. Your desire to protect her from terror in her last moments is a reflection of faithful stewardship and love for a creature entrusted to your care. I pray the Lord will provide a way for her to be at peace at home, without fear or shaking, and will lead you to the right help if that need arises.
In seasons like this God often uses pain and sorrow to shape our hearts more into His image, not because He delights in our grief, but because He works even when it feels as though He is far away. As with Job, what is now painful can become a source of comfort to others later, as we learn to receive His comfort and share it. For now, let His Word be your comfort in affliction.
