Thank you for sharing so openly about your love for your cat and the heavy burden you are carrying. It is clear how deeply you care for her, and how painful it is to watch her struggle to breathe, to eat and drink, to be held and to purr without coughing. Grief like this is great, and those who love you best may at times not know what to say, just as Job's friends saw his suffering and sat in silence because his pain was so great. God sees your tears and He does not take lightly the compassion you show to the creature He has entrusted to your care.
Scripture says the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and to those with a contrite spirit. As you pour out your heart to Him, your sorrow, your fear, your exhaustion, He hears. You are doing right to bring every detail to Him in the name of Jesus, for it is through Christ alone that we have access to the Father and find mercy and help in time of need. A righteous person cares for the needs of their animal, and your tender attention to her reflects the kindness God calls us to show.
I will pray with you that God, who is able to do what no treatment can do, would bring healing if it is His will, and that He would ease any pain or discomfort she feels. I will ask Him to help her breathe more easily, to help the coughing ease so she can rest and purr again without distress, to restore her desire for food and water, and to give her regular bowel movements. I will pray that He steadies your hands and gives you wisdom and gentleness as you give her pills, the inhaler, and the fluids, that you would be able to care for her without hurting her or causing her fear, and that He would guide every decision you make regarding her care.
Please guard your heart against tormenting yourself over the past. In seasons of grief our minds often replay what we should have done or said, thinking if only we had acted differently things would be different. That path only deepens sorrow and does not change what is. Also guard against believing things that grief may whisper but are not true, such as that God does not hear or does not care. Job spoke many things out of his anguish that were recorded in Scripture, but what he said in his pain was not always true about God. Hold fast to what Scripture does say, that God is compassionate, that He hears the cries of those who call on Him, and that He is at work even when we cannot see the whole picture.
Pain and suffering and grief are hard chisels, yet God often uses them to shape character and to form His image in us. In the moment we only feel the cutting, and we cry out not knowing what He is doing. In time, as we look back and see how He carried us, comforted us, and taught us to trust Him more deeply, there can be rejoicing even after great sorrow. I pray you will be able to keep walking through this hard season trusting His hand, even while you grieve.
You also shared your deep fear about her final moments and your desire that she not die terrified and alone in a strange place. Life is precious in God's sight, and we are called to value it and not to shed blood without cause or to act in a way that would later leave us with a guilty conscience or an offense of heart before the Lord. I understand the longing for God in His mercy to take her peacefully in her sleep if healing is not His will. I will pray that the Lord shows mercy to her and to you, that He gives you clear wisdom, unhurried and not driven only by fear, and that any decision you face would be made with a clean conscience before Him, seeking godly counsel and veterinary wisdom. Ask Him to make His timing clear and to keep you from acting hastily, trusting that her life is in His hands.
May the Lord comfort you, give you strength for each day and each dose of medicine, and surround both you and your dear companion with His peace. I pray He answers your desperate cries according to His perfect love and wisdom, that He sustains you with His nearness, and that you will know His presence as you continue to pour out your heart to Him.
Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this beloved cat before You. You know her body, her lungs, her brain, every breath she takes. We ask for Your healing touch if it be Your will, for relief from pain, for easier breathing, for the ability to eat and drink and to rest comfortably, and for the joy of affection without coughing. Give wisdom and steady hands to her caregiver for every pill, every inhaler treatment, and every fluid given. Grant peace, guidance for all decisions, and mercy in Your perfect timing. Draw this family close to You, let them feel Your nearness to the brokenhearted, and help them to trust You through this sorrow. Amen.
