When the walls of your home feel pressed in by crying and conflict and the shadow of addiction, it is easy to cry out for a quick fix. But the Lord often works from the inside out, beginning with the foundation He has already laid. The picture God gives for a family is a house built on spiritual priorities. Before the kiss, before the daily routine, before the frantic scramble for solutions, there must be a return to first things, the place of the Lord in your marriage and in your future.
Your husband’s battle with drink is not just a habit; it is a spiritual snare that dulls his mind and opens the door to darker temptation. Pray that God would grant him a sober spirit and godly wisdom, not merely to make the right choices but to love you as Christ loved the church. That is his one rule, a simple command that does not fade. When a husband loves with that kind of sacrificial, cleansing love, the strife over headship begins to quiet. At the same time, your calling is to respect and submit to your husband as to the Lord, not because he is perfect, but because this is God’s design for harmony. Two wills clashing make a duel; two wills surrendered to God make a duet. The more he shows love, the easier submission becomes; the more you honor his God-given role, the more space you give the Spirit to convict and restore him.
The crying of your baby and the restlessness in the house cannot be separated from the spiritual atmosphere. Before Israel could have victory, the Lord said, “There is sin in the camp; cleanse it, and I will deliver you.” That does not mean your suffering is punishment, but it does mean that hidden strongholds, whether alcohol, unresolved bitterness, or the wicked intentions of those who oppose your home, must be brought into the light and dealt with. Pray for the exposure of any evil desire sent against your family. Ask the Lord to shield you from seen and unseen danger, and to cleanse every room, every corner, from the defilement of what is not of Him. Your bedroom, in particular, must be a place of peace and purity, not a battleground.
The relatives who do not yet know the Lord are not your ultimate enemies; they are captives in need of deliverance. Pray earnestly for their salvation, that the same grace that broke into your life would break into theirs. God knows how to humble hearts; He once withheld wrath from Jerusalem when the people humbled themselves. He extends deliverance when He sees genuine repentance.
Do not grow weary. The baby’s cries and your own tears are heard. God can heal that little body and grant sleep as a gift. But seek the deeper healing, a husband set free from the power of sin, made holy and dependable as a father, a home reordered under the lordship of Jesus Christ. When spiritual things are set first, everything else begins to find its proper place. Stand your ground in prayer, and do not retreat. The Lord has delivered His people by mighty hand before, and He remains the same.
