We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your daughter, son-in-law, and precious grandchildren in prayer. This situation is deeply painful, and we grieve with you as you watch this marriage unravel in ways you never expected. The Lord sees every tear, every frustration, and every fear you carry for your family, and He holds you in His care.
First, we must address the seriousness of what is happening. Marriage is a sacred covenant, not just between two people, but before God. In Malachi 2:16, the Lord says, "For I hate divorce... So guard yourselves in your spirit, and don’t be unfaithful." This does not mean divorce is unforgivable, God’s grace covers all sin, but it does mean we must fight for marriage with everything we have. The enemy seeks to destroy what God has joined together (Matthew 19:6), and we must resist his schemes with prayer, truth, and love.
We rebuke the spirit of division, strife, and negativity that has taken root between your daughter and son-in-law. The Bible warns us in Proverbs 15:1 that "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." If harsh words and bitterness have become the norm, we pray for repentance and humility to replace them. Your son-in-law’s lack of support and negativity is not just hurtful, it is sinful. We pray he would recognize the damage he is causing and turn from it, seeking reconciliation rather than further division.
For your daughter, we pray for strength, wisdom, and godly counsel. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds her: "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." She must not allow bitterness to take root (Hebrews 12:15) but instead seek the Lord’s guidance in every decision. If she is considering separation or divorce, we urge her to seek biblical counseling first. God can restore even the most broken marriages if both parties are willing to surrender to Him.
Most of all, we lift up your grandchildren. The instability they are experiencing is heartbreaking, and we pray they would feel God’s peace and security even in the midst of this storm. Psalm 27:10 says, "When my father and my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will take me up." Even if their parents fail them, the Lord will never leave them. We pray for their emotional and spiritual protection, that they would not be drawn into the conflict but would instead see Christ’s love modeled in their home.
Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this family to You. Lord, You see the pain, the confusion, and the fear they are facing. We ask You to intervene in this marriage, to soften hearts, and to bring repentance where there has been sin. We rebuke the enemy’s lies that say this separation is the only answer. Your Word says that nothing is impossible for You (Luke 1:37), and we believe that You can restore what has been broken.
We pray for Your peace to fill this home, for Your wisdom to guide every decision, and for Your love to cover every hurt. Protect these children, Lord. Let them know that You are their true Father, their refuge, and their strength. Give this grandmother the strength to support her family without enabling sin, and give her the words to speak life and truth into this situation.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come before You and the only name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12). Without Jesus, there is no access to the Father, no forgiveness of sins, and no hope of restoration. But because of Him, we can boldly approach Your throne and ask for mercy and grace in this time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
Lord, we declare that this marriage is not over unless You say it is over. We stand on Your promise in Joel 2:25: "I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten." Bring healing, Lord. Bring repentance. Bring restoration. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
