You have laid a burden upon the altar of intercession, and though it wears no name and speaks no detail, it is heard in the courts of heaven. The unspoken prayer is no stranger to the throne of grace; the sighs and groans that cannot be uttered are often the most eloquent before the Most High. He who reads the heart needs no words to understand, for He knows the deep, silent language of His own children. The brief, silent prayer of Nehemiah was but an arrow shot in a moment, yet it reached the mark and prevailed with the King of kings. So, too, your quiet pleading, wrapped in the name of Jesus, has entered into the ear of the Lord of Sabaoth.
Learn this day to trust and not be afraid. What time you are overwhelmed, or the unseen trial presses heavy, let your confidence rest not in man, whose help is vain, but in Him who has said, “I will never leave thee.” The best of all is God with us; that sweet bundle of myrrh, “God with us,” perfumes every chamber of sorrow and turns the valley of weeping into a well of hope. If God be for you, who can be against you? He has justified you in Christ; He has reconciled you to Himself. Who, then, shall condemn? The unspoken need may be a warfare with principalities and powers, or a wrestling with some inward grief, yet the man who has power with God must be safe. And power with God is won by simple, childlike faith, not by the pomp of words, but by the clinging of the soul to the promise.
I charge you, walk humbly with your God. Do not let the secrecy of your request foster a spirit of proud isolation; rather, let it drive you into deeper fellowship with the Father. Declare your ways before Him in the silent watches, and then leave the matter with Him. He gives His beloved sleep. There is a carnal energy that frets and fumes, rising early and sitting up late, building the house as if all rested on our own feverish activity. But unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. Cast your burden on the Lord, and then go about your duty with a quiet heart. It may be that this very trial is the school where God will teach you His statutes, and the furnace where He will show you more of His Christ.
Rejoice that God has spoken in His holiness. His promise stands sure: every soul that trusts in Jesus must be safe at the last. The unspoken prayer, when it is offered in the name of Jesus, touches the scepter of the covenant. God cannot deny the intercession of His own Son. Therefore, though your road be rough, yet with God as your Pilot, you shall weather the storm. Soon you shall say, “I love the Lord, because He hath heard my voice and my supplications.” Go in peace, and let your heart be fixed, singing praise even before the deliverance comes, for He that spared not His own Son will with Him also freely give you all things.
