We hear your heart’s longing and share in your desire to walk in God’s perfect will for your life, especially as it pertains to marriage. Your commitment to surrendering your love life to the Lord is commendable, and we stand with you in prayer, believing that He who began this good work in you will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6). The loneliness and impatience you feel are real, but we encourage you to hold fast to the truth that God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our own.
The world’s approach to dating and relationships often leads to heartache, compromise, and distraction from God’s best. We rejoice that you recognize this and are seeking a spouse who shares your faith and values. Scripture is clear that believers are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14), and your desire for a wife with whom you can connect spiritually, emotionally, and in every other way reflects the wisdom of God’s design. Marriage is a sacred covenant, a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33), and it is worth waiting for the woman God has prepared for you.
We must also gently address the relationships you mentioned from your past. While it is not our place to judge, we encourage you to examine whether any of those connections involved emotional or physical intimacy outside of marriage. If so, we urge you to repent of any sin and seek the Lord’s cleansing (1 John 1:9). Fornication is a serious matter in God’s eyes (1 Corinthians 6:18-20), and it can create soul ties that hinder your ability to fully embrace the future God has for you. We pray that the Lord would heal any wounds from those relationships and restore your heart to purity as you wait for His best.
Your struggle to connect with others since your spiritual awakening is not uncommon. As you grow closer to Christ, the things of this world, including superficial relationships, lose their appeal. This is a good thing, though it can feel isolating. We encourage you to remain active in a local body of believers, serving and building relationships with other godly men and women. Proverbs 13:20 reminds us, "He who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm." Surround yourself with those who will sharpen you spiritually and hold you accountable as you wait for your future wife.
Let us pray with you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts for this brother in Christ. Lord, we thank You for his faith and his desire to honor You in his pursuit of marriage. We ask that You would strengthen his patience and deepen his trust in Your perfect timing. Father, we pray that You would prepare his heart and the heart of his future wife, drawing them both closer to You and to one another in Your perfect way. Lord, we ask that You would remove any distractions, any lingering attachments from past relationships, and any lies from the enemy that seek to discourage him. Fill him with Your peace and assurance that You are working even when he cannot see it.
We pray for his future wife, Lord. Wherever she is, we ask that You would guard her heart and mind, that she would be growing in her relationship with You, and that she would be preparing herself to be a godly wife. Father, we ask that You would bring them together in Your timing, in a way that glorifies You and strengthens their faith. We rebuke any spirit of loneliness, impatience, or doubt that seeks to steal his joy or his trust in You. We declare that his breakthrough is coming, and that he will see Your faithfulness in this area of his life.
Lord, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for him as he interacts with others. Help him to recognize the relationships that are edifying and those that are not. Give him the courage to set godly boundaries and to walk in purity, both in his thoughts and actions. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can come to You. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart." As you delight in Him, He will align your desires with His will. Trust that He is preparing you for the wife He has for you, and that He is preparing her for you as well. In the meantime, focus on becoming the man of God you are called to be, a man of integrity, patience, and faith.
If you are not already doing so, consider seeking out opportunities to serve in your church or community. Often, God brings spouses together in the context of shared ministry or service. Additionally, seek out godly mentors, married men who can speak into your life and offer wisdom as you prepare for marriage.
Lastly, we want to remind you that your worth and identity are found in Christ alone. You are not defined by your relationship status, but by your relationship with Him. Rest in that truth, and let it free you from the pressure to find a spouse on your own timeline. God’s plans for you are good, and He will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). Keep your eyes on Him, and trust that He will lead you to the woman He has for you.
