The former landlord’s Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her, and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me, and about the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me.

Please also pray that they both put God first and that our Mighty and Powerful God exposes and destroys every idol.

We join you in bringing this heavy situation before our Mighty and Powerful God, and we thank Him for the former landlord's sister and her faith in Jesus. We pray that the Lord will continue to strengthen her, give her boldness, and speak clearly through her as a light in her family. We ask that her godly influence would bear fruit and that her brother would have ears to hear the truth she speaks in love.

We agree with you in praying that the truth will not remain hidden. It is not God's will for darkness to be covered, for we are reminded in Luke 8:17 For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed; nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. And in Ephesians 5:11 Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them. We pray that the sister will not be kept in the dark about the life threatening condition of the apartment her brother rented to you, and about the serious wrongdoing surrounding it. We pray for courage for her to ask hard questions and for the Lord to open doors for honest conversation, and we pray for protection and justice for you. If a dwelling was rented that knowingly endangered life, that is a grave responsibility before God and before the law, and we pray that all facts would be exposed and dealt with righteously. We also encourage you to seek help from the proper authorities if you have not already, for God has ordained them for justice, and your safety matters deeply to Him.

We must also address what you have shared about the sexual relationship between the former landlord and this woman. Scripture is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman, and any sexual relationship outside of that holy covenant is sin before God. In 1 Corinthians 6:18 we are told Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. And in Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. We pray for conviction and repentance for both of them where there has been fornication or adultery, that they would turn from this immorality, flee temptation, and pursue purity and holiness, seeking a godly marriage if it is His will rather than a relationship marked by sin.

We are deeply grieved to hear of your fear that this woman most likely hired people to try to kill you. God sees all and hates violence, for Exodus 20:13 says You shall not murder. We pray for your continued protection under the shadow of the Almighty, as Psalm 91:1 promises He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. We ask God to surround you with His angels, to frustrate every evil plan, and to bring every hidden scheme to light. We also pray that you would release vengeance to the Lord, for Romans 12:19 says Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. We pray that if evil intent is proven, justice would be done rightly, and that even those who have done evil would be brought to repentance, for God desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance.

We join you in praying that both the former landlord and his sister will put God first above all else. Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:33 But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. We pray that our Mighty God will expose and destroy every idol that has taken His place in their hearts, whether it be money, pride, possessions, or sinful relationships. As Exodus 20:3 declares You shall have no other gods before me. And 1 John 5:21 warns Little children, keep yourselves from idols. We ask God to tear down every false god and to establish Himself alone on the throne of their lives.

We now pray together, Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our access to Your throne. We lift up this sister in Christ and ask You to anoint her words, give her wisdom, discernment and boldness to speak truth in love to her brother. Remove any veil of deception and let no darkness remain hidden. Expose the truth about this apartment and about every immoral and violent deed, and let Your justice and mercy prevail. Bring the former landlord to repentance for any sexual immorality and for any neglect or deceit that endangered life. Break the power of every idol in both of their lives and draw them to put You first in all things. Protect Your child who has been harmed and afraid, cover him with Your peace that passes understanding, and let him rest in Your power to defend and deliver. We trust You as our Mighty and Powerful God who sees, who judges righteously, and who redeems. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, amen.

Thank you for sharing this burden with us. We hear how much weight you have been carrying with this housing situation and the conflict with your former landlord, and how much you are hoping his sister's faith will be a bridge toward truth and change.

We are joining you in praying for her, that the Lord will keep strengthening her walk with Him and give her wisdom and courage in how she speaks to her brother. We are also praying with you that what needs to come to light will do so in God's way and timing, and that both of them would seek to put God first above all else. We understand your desire for idols to be exposed and for God to be honored in this situation, and we bring that before Him as well.

We also hear how unsafe you have felt. If you continue to have concerns about your safety or about housing conditions, we encourage you to reach out soon to a trusted pastor and to appropriate local help who can walk with you practically and help you discern wise next steps, even as we continue to pray for your protection and peace.

Father, we lift this sister to You and thank You for her faith. Keep drawing her close and give her discernment and grace in her family. We ask You to watch over our friend who wrote, guard his heart and his safety, and lead him step by step. Bring Your truth and Your peace into this whole situation and help all involved to seek You first. In Jesus' name, amen.

We join you in bringing this heavy burden before the throne of grace, where we have full assurance that God hears prayer and the assured confidence that He will hear our prayer.

We pray for the sister of whom you speak, who professes faith in Jesus Christ. We thank God for any light of grace in her and pray that the Lord would keep her faithful, that she may walk in the truth and indeed keep herself from idols. May the Lord give her discernment and courage to speak what is true and right, and may her influence be used not to flatter or to excuse sin, but to call to repentance and to point to Christ, in whom alone is salvation. For apart from God there is nothing for us but destruction, and happiness is not to be found by the creature apart from the Creator, or by a sinner apart from the Savior.

We pray that what has been hidden in darkness would be brought into the light. If a dwelling was rented that endangered life, and if wrong has been done, we ask the Lord who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in working to expose it. We do not ask God to bless what His Word calls immoral, for sex and living together belong within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman in marriage, and any sexual relationship outside that covenant is sin before a holy God. We cannot and will not ask Him to affirm or bless such a union. Rather we pray that both the former landlord and the woman you mention would be brought under deep conviction of sin, that they would confess their sin and turn from it, and put God first. We pray that every idol, whether of self, of pleasure, of gain, or of impurity, would be broken in pieces by His right hand, for God has purposed to break down everything which sets itself up in opposition to Him, and to dry up the green tree that boasts apart from His endowment.

We pray also for your protection and deliverance. You speak of attempts upon your life, and this is a grievous trial. We remember that God grants protection to the persecuted and provides an escape from the most perilous exposure, and that full often the darkest conspiracy is brought to the direst confusion. When the waters of affliction have covered all the earth, then we fly back to our Ark and find rest for the sole of our foot. May the Lord be your refuge, may justice be satisfied not by vengeance in your own hand but through the blood of Christ, and may the Lord keep you in perfect peace as you trust in Him.

We pray that all involved would see that perfection is not in us, for every tear and sigh says imperfection, but perfection is to be found in Christ alone, whose obedience and blood hide all our transgressions from view. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, because justice itself, once angry, has become the sinner’s advocate through the stripes borne by our Substitute.

So we pray: O Lord, wash with the blood of Christ, sprinkle hearts from an evil conscience, grant repentance unto life, destroy idols, reveal truth, restrain evil, and lift up the poor from the dunghill while casting down what is proud and oppressive. Let Thy name alone be exalted, and let all hearts seek to worship Thee in spirit and in truth. Amen.
