The former landlord’s Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her, and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me, and about the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me.

Please also pray that they both put God first and that our Mighty and Powerful God exposes and destroys every idol.

We join with you in bringing this heavy burden before the throne of grace in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved, as it is written Acts 4:12.

We thank God for this sister who has faith in Jesus and we pray that the Lord will strengthen her to be salt and light in her family. We ask that God continues to speak through her with boldness and grace, that she would not shrink back from speaking the truth in love, for we are called to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather to reprove them Ephesians 5:11. We pray that her positive, godly influence would be a means God uses to convict her brother and draw him to repentance, that he would turn from any wrongdoing and seek righteousness.

We agree with you in praying that the truth will not remain hidden. What is done in secret will be brought to light, for there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light Luke 8:17 and For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open Luke 12:2. We pray that this sister is not kept in the dark about the life threatening condition of the apartment her brother rented to you, for a landlord bears responsibility before God to act justly and to love mercy Micah 6:8 and to not put others in harm for gain. We pray that God exposes every deception and brings justice according to His perfect will, and that you will continue to trust Him for protection and vindication, for it is written Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. If your life has truly been threatened we encourage you also to seek protection and help through the proper authorities whom God has ordained for justice Romans 13:1, while we trust the Lord as our refuge and fortress Psalm 91:2.

We must also address what you have shared about the sexual relationship between the former landlord and this woman. Scripture is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman, and any sexual relationship outside of that covenant is fornication or adultery which God calls us to flee. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. We pray that both the former landlord and this woman would be convicted of this sin and of any other evil intent, that they would repent and turn to Christ for forgiveness and new life. We pray for this woman as well, that if she has participated in evil or sought to harm you, God would either bring her to deep repentance or stop her hand and expose her deeds, for God desires that all would come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9 yet He will not leave the guilty unjudged if they refuse His mercy.

We join you in praying that they both will put God first, for we are commanded You shall have no other gods before me Exodus 20:3 and Seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well Matthew 6:33. We pray that our mighty and powerful God will expose and destroy every idol in their lives, whether it be money, lust, power, or self, for we are to keep ourselves from idols 1 John 5:21 and the Lord declares I am Yahweh, that is my name, and my glory I will not give to another, neither my praise to engraved images Isaiah 42:8. We ask that God would tear down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God 2 Corinthians 10:5 and establish His lordship in their hearts.

We lift you up as well, that God would guard you, give you peace that surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:7, and let you dwell in His protection. We pray together, Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we ask You to shine Your light into this dark situation. Speak powerfully through this sister, give her discernment, courage and words seasoned with grace. Open her eyes to the truth about the dangerous apartment and about the immoral and violent deeds that have been alleged, and use her witness to lead her brother toward truth and repentance. Expose every hidden sin and idol, bring to nothing every plan to harm, and let justice and mercy prevail. Set this brother and this woman on a path to put You first, to forsake fornication and all wickedness, and to seek Your forgiveness through Jesus. Cover our dear one who has been threatened with Your wings, keep them safe from all harm, and let Your will be done. We ask all this in Jesus' name, amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer, to walk in forgiveness while still seeking truth and righteousness, and to keep your eyes on Christ who is our defender and judge. The Lord is near to all who call on Him in truth Psalm 145:18 and He will never forsake those who trust in Him.

We hear how unsettling this housing situation has been for you, and how much you are carrying as you think about the former landlord and his sister. It makes sense you would want truth to come into the light and for people of faith around him to be a steady, honest influence.

We are praying with you for his sister, that the Lord would keep strengthening her faith and give her wisdom and courage to speak what is true and loving. We are also praying for your former landlord, that God would draw him to put the Lord first and to let go of anything that has taken God's place in his heart. And we are praying for you, for peace and for safety as you move forward from that apartment.

When fear has been so real, it helps to not walk through it alone. If you have a trusted pastor, counselor, or mature believer you can talk with regularly, we encourage you to stay connected with them, share what you are experiencing, and let them help you think through practical steps for your housing and wellbeing.

Father, we lift this sister to You and thank You for her faith. Give her discernment and a clear voice, and work in her brother's heart to seek You above all else. Cover our friend with Your presence and protection, calm fear with Your nearness, and lead each step toward what is true and good. Reveal what needs to be seen and bring healing where it is needed. We have heard your burden and we join you in bringing it before the throne of grace, where the eternal God is our refuge in every trial both great and small.

We pray for the sister of whom you speak, who has faith in Jesus, that the Lord who has taught her from her youth would continue to teach her and make her to be His pupil and His preacher, declaring His wondrous works. May God speak through her with the authority of His Word, for His words are pearls dropped from His lips, and may she walk in that teachable spirit which cleaves to God alone and turns from the broken cisterns of this world. We ask that she may keep herself from idols and be kept faithful, growing in divine grace as she drinks from the pure fountain at the fountainhead.

We pray for the former landlord, that the God who first sought Adam when Adam fled and hid himself would seek this man. Man seeks not his God till God first seeks him, and one of the first works of divine grace is to startle the sleeper from his lethargy and put sensibility into the cold and dead conscience. We pray that the Lord would open his eyes to discover his danger, that he would confess both justice and mercy, and that he would be brought to repentance and to salvation through Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we must be saved.

We pray concerning the apartment of which you speak and the grievous sins you have named. We do not ask God to bless what is contrary to His holy law, for marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all sexual union outside it is sin before the Lord. We pray rather that God would bring what is hidden into light, that truth would be made known and that what has been kept in darkness would be exposed. The death warrant has gone out from God against everything that sets itself up in opposition to Him, and His purpose is to break down every idol. We pray with you that every idol would be exposed and destroyed, that Ephraim may truly say, What have I to do any more with idols, and that the whole nature may become the temple of the living God. Where there has been immorality, we pray for deep conviction and forsaking of sin. Where there has been threat to life, we pray for the protection of the eternal God and for justice according to His righteous will, for vengeance belongs to the Lord.

We pray that both the brother and the sister may seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, putting God first and giving to true religion a sovereignty over their lives. May the fear of God be both the foundation and the top stone, and may consecration to God shine forth as the master passion that swallows up all other rods. When we put God first, we prove that we love His law, and in loving His law there is great peace and intellectual repose, for we cease to quarrel with God and learn resignation to His will.

For you who have suffered and felt the weight of these things, we pray that you would know the eternal God as your present refuge from these daily sorrows. He who was your refuge years ago in great distress is the same eternal God today. May you be supplied from His fountain with no stinted allowance, and may you find peace in loving His law and in resting wholly upon His free favor and sovereign grace which carries every chosen vessel of mercy from grace to glory.

May the Lord grant that all involved may hear His message from God to their souls, turn from sin to the living and true God, and be kept till the day when idols shall be utterly abolished.

We join you in prayer before our Mighty and Powerful God, who sees what is hidden and brings what is dark into the light.

We thank God for your former landlord's sister and for her faith in Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation. We pray that the Lord will strengthen her, keep her rooted in His Word, and give her wisdom and courage to speak the truth in love. We ask that God would not allow important truth to be hidden from her, but that He would give her discernment about the serious matters you have raised concerning the apartment and the conduct surrounding it, so that she may be a faithful witness and a positive influence for righteousness in her brother's life.

We pray for your former landlord, that God would draw him to put the Lord first above all else. Scripture teaches us that we cannot serve two masters, and that covetousness is idolatry, a desire that comes not from God but from our own insatiable appetite. We ask that God would expose and destroy every idol in both of their lives, whether it be the love of money, the desire for gain at the expense of others, or any other created thing that has taken the place of the Creator. We pray that He would open eyes to see that serving such idols brings His wrath, and that He would lead to repentance.

We also pray concerning the sexual relationship you mentioned. God has given marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and He calls us to keep sex and living together within that covenant alone. We do not ask God to bless what is outside His design, but we pray for conviction, for turning away from immorality, and for a pursuit of purity and holiness. We pray for the woman you mentioned as well, that God would bring her to repentance and to saving faith in Jesus Christ, and that any schemes of harm would be exposed and brought to nothing. We ask for your protection and for justice, remembering that God mingles justice with mercy. He is both the righteous judge who will declare every work and the merciful Savior who suffered for us that we might be forgiven. We leave vengeance in His hands and ask that truth would be made manifest, as by fire, and that all involved would be led to do what is right.

We pray that both the brother and sister would seek first the kingdom of God, that their lives would be built on the foundation of Christ, and that God would guard you, bring healing from the harm and fear you have experienced, and keep you in His peace.

We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our deliverer, trusting that God hears and will act according to His perfect justice and mercy. Amen.
