The former landlord’s Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her, and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me, and about the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me.

Please also pray that they both put God first and that our Mighty and Powerful God exposes and destroys every idol.

We join you in lifting up this heavy and serious situation before our Mighty and Powerful God together in Jesus' name, and we thank you for sharing this burden with us.

We are encouraged to hear of the former landlord's sister and her faith in Jesus, for we know that God often uses faithful believers as vessels of truth and light within their own families. We pray that the Lord will strengthen her, give her boldness and wisdom, and continue to speak through her. As it is written, Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them Ephesians 5:11, and For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed; nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light Luke 8:17. We pray that she will not be kept in the dark, but that all truth concerning the life threatening condition of the apartment that was rented to you will be exposed. We pray that any deception or concealment will be brought into the light, so that she may understand the gravity of what has happened and be used by God to call her brother to repentance and accountability.

We also bring before the Lord the former landlord himself. We pray that God will grant him a heart of repentance, that he will put God first in his life and turn from any wrongdoing. We pray with you that every idol in his life and in his sister's life will be exposed and destroyed, for God calls us to keep ourselves from idols 1 John 5:21 and to seek Him above all else. Jesus taught us, But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well Matthew 6:33. When God is not first, idols of money, reputation, comfort, or people take His place, and those idols must be torn down. We pray that both brother and sister will humble themselves, seek the Lord wholeheartedly, and allow Him to be Lord over every area.

We must also address with love and truth the mention of the sexual relationship between the former landlord and the immoral woman. Scripture is very clear that God designed sexual intimacy for within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. Outside of that covenant it is sin before God. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18 and Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. We pray that both the former landlord and this woman will be convicted of this sin, that they will repent and turn from fornication and pursue holiness and righteousness before God.

We are deeply grieved to hear of the evil that has been directed against you, including the renting of a dangerous dwelling and the allegation that this woman most likely hired people to try to kill you. To take or attempt to take a life is a grave sin, for God commands You shall not murder Exodus 20:13. We thank God for His protection over your life thus far, for He is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one 2 Thessalonians 3:3 and He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty Psalm 91:1. We pray for your continued safety and for God's justice to prevail. While we are to trust God for vengeance, as it is written Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19, we also know that God has established governing authorities to punish wrongdoing Romans 13:4. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to seek protection and to report any credible threats to your life to the proper authorities, trusting that God can work through them to expose evil and bring justice.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and mediator. We lift up the sister who loves You, and we ask that You anoint her lips with truth and courage, that You give her discernment to see what has been hidden, and that You use her positive influence to lead her brother toward repentance and truth. Lord, expose every lie, every hidden work of darkness, and every idol that has taken Your place in these lives. Tear down every idol and establish Your throne in their hearts. Convict the former landlord and this woman of sexual immorality and of any participation in harm or attempted harm, and lead them to godly sorrow and repentance that leads to salvation. Protect our dear one who has been wronged, surround them with Your angels, grant them peace that passes understanding, and let justice and truth prevail. We ask that Your will be done and that Your name be glorified in this difficult situation. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to walk closely with the Lord, to remain in prayer and in the Word, and to trust that our God sees all, knows all, and will in His perfect time expose what is hidden and bring both justice and opportunity for redemption.

We hear how heavy this season has been for you, and how much you are carrying from that apartment and all that happened there. It makes sense you would want the truth to be known, and you would hope a sister who loves Jesus could be a steady, honest voice in her brother's life.

We pray God keeps strengthening her faith and giving her wisdom to speak with both grace and clarity. Influence is real, and God can use a faithful family member, but hearts change only as people themselves turn toward Him. We can entrust both of them to the Lord to work in His way and timing.

We also hear the fear underneath your request, especially feeling your safety was threatened. If you are still feeling unsafe or unsettled about housing or about anyone's intentions toward you, please reach out soon to a trusted pastor, counselor, or other safe person nearby who can walk with you in person and help you think through practical steps for protection and peace of mind. You don't have to sort through this alone, and we will keep praying alongside you.

Father, we lift this sister to You and thank You for her faith. Give her discernment and courage, and keep her close to You. We lift the former landlord to You as well, asking that You draw him to put You first and to walk in truth and integrity. We lift our friend who wrote, asking for Your protection, for calm and rest, for wisdom for each next decision, and for truth to come to light in Your way. Remove what should not have a hold on any heart and lead each one toward You. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your burden and we join you in bringing it before the Lord in prayer.

We pray that the eternal God will be your refuge and that underneath you will be the everlasting arms. There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun who rides upon the heaven in your help and in His excellency on the sky, and He is able to thrust out the enemy from before you and to give you to dwell safely in communion with Himself. In the midst of fear and danger we remember the word spoken at the first coming of Christ, Fear not, for God has come near to us in His Son, born to save His people from that which separates them from God.

We lift before Him the sister of whom you speak, who has faith in Jesus. We thank God for any true faith in Christ, for salvation is through Jesus Christ alone and there is no other name by which we must be saved. We pray that the Lord will continue to speak through her as a messenger from God, that she may walk in truth and love, and that her influence may be for good. We pray that what has been hidden will be brought to light, for nothing is hidden from the eyes of Divine justice. As you have described a life threatening dwelling and grave wrongs, we ask the Lord who sees in secret to reveal the truth, to protect the innocent, to restrain evil and to bring justice according to His righteous will. We pray for your safety and for deliverance from every scheme of harm, trusting that God comes to seek the sinner and that He will not leave sin unjudged nor the cry of the oppressed unheard.

We pray also concerning the sin you have named. We hold fast the historic biblical ethic that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and that the gift of sex belongs within that covenant alone. We cannot ask God to bless what He calls sin, but we do ask Him to convict, to bring repentance and to grant forgiveness. We pray that both the former landlord and the woman you mention, and indeed all involved, may hear the voice of grace which cries, Sinner, where are you, and may turn from their idols. We pray with you that God would expose and destroy every idol, for this is the easily besetting sin of our nature to turn aside from the living God. May each heart be brought to say from the heart, What have I to do any more with idols, and may they learn to drink from the pure fountain at the fountainhead and to cleave to God alone.

We pray that they may put God first, that they may seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. When Christ is first, other things find their due order. May the fear of God be both the foundation and the top stone of their lives. And we pray the same for you, that you may be kept from idols, that you may keep close to your Master and find your joy and delight in Him.

We ask the Lord to grant you forgiveness and peace through the blood of Christ, for if you have forgiveness you have the first link in an endless chain of mercies. May you know that you are His beloved child, taught and kept and sanctified by Him, and may that forgiveness lead you to a holy fear and love of His name. May the peace of God guard your heart, not the false peace which Satan gives to keep conscience asleep, but the true peace which comes after the storm, when the voice of the Lord has spoken.

We pray that the Lord will make you to dwell apart with Him, nearer to Christ and further from the confusion of men, and that you will find there a safe dwelling.

O Lord our God, look upon this our brother or sister in affliction. Be their refuge and defense. Let truth be made manifest. Let every idol be abolished. Bring sinners to repentance through Jesus Christ Thy Son, and let Thy Kingdom come first in every heart. Keep us all in Thy grace till our whole nature shall become the temple of the living God. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour. Amen.

We have heard your burden and we join you in bringing it before God who sees all things and judges with perfect justice and mercy.

We pray for the sister who has faith in Jesus, that the Lord would strengthen her and continue to speak through her as a faithful witness. We ask that God would give her clarity, courage and wisdom, and that she would not be kept in the dark about what has happened. Where there has been deception or concealment, we pray that the truth would be made known in a way that leads to repentance and to protection for those who have been harmed. Scripture teaches that the devil was a murderer from the beginning and did not stand in the truth, and that when he lies he speaks from his own nature. We pray that every lie would be exposed and that the truth of Christ would prevail.

We pray also for your former landlord, that God would lead him to put God first and to turn from every sin. We do not ask God to bless a sexual relationship outside of marriage, for God has ordained that sex belongs only within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and He calls all of us to chastity and purity. Instead we pray that where there has been sexual immorality, it would be forsaken, confessed and healed by the grace of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and adoption as sons. We pray that both he and his sister would seek Christ first and find forgiveness and new life in Him.

We join you in praying that every idol would be exposed and destroyed. Scripture warns that covetousness is idolatry, an idol made by our own desires, and that it is more dangerous because we often excuse it while still serving it. Whether the idol is money, property, power or pleasure, we ask our Mighty and Powerful God to tear it down and to give a heart that worships the Creator rather than the creature.

We pray for you and for your safety. You have described a life threatening dwelling and a fear for your life, and we ask the Lord who delivered His servant from the mouth of the lion to deliver you from every evil work and to guard you. We pray that God would reveal what is true about these serious matters, that justice would be done, and that His wrath against all ungodliness and unrighteousness would lead to correction and repentance rather than to final condemnation. Where division is needed for the sake of truth and righteousness, we pray for a good division that separates from evil, and where reconciliation is possible through repentance, we pray for true peace.

May the Lord give you wisdom to seek both His protection and lawful help, to walk in holiness, and to trust in Christ who alone bore the curse for us that we might receive adoption. We ask all this in the name of Jesus, our only hope and deliverer. Amen.
