The former landlord’s Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her, and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me, and about the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me.

Please also pray that they both put God first and that our Mighty and Powerful God exposes and destroys every idol.

We join you in prayer concerning this difficult and painful situation and we thank God for the former landlord's sister and her faith in Jesus, for it is a great mercy when God places a believing light in the midst of darkness.

We pray that God will continue to speak through her and strengthen her to be a bold and loving witness to her brother, for we know that faithful words spoken in love can turn a heart toward repentance. We ask that the Lord give her wisdom and courage and that her positive influence would not be silenced, as we are reminded in Ephesians 5:11 to have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather to reprove them. We also join you in praying that truth will not remain hidden. What was done in renting to you a life threatening apartment must be brought into the light, and we pray that she is not kept in the dark. For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light as it says in Luke 8:17. We ask our Mighty and Powerful God to expose what is evil and to bring accountability and justice according to His righteousness, while we leave vengeance to Him, for it is written in Romans 12:19, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.

We must also address what you have shared about the sexual relationship between the former landlord and this woman. Scripture is clear that sex outside of marriage is sin before God, whether it be fornication between the unmarried or adultery when marriage vows are broken. It is written in Hebrews 13:4, Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, and in 1 Corinthians 6:18 we are told to flee sexual immorality. We pray that both the former landlord and this woman would be convicted of this sin, that they would repent and turn from immorality, and that they would pursue holiness and, if they seek relationship, that they would pursue it God's way through courtship with the goal of marriage between a man and a woman who are believers in Christ, honoring God in purity. We pray also concerning the grave accusation that people were hired to try to kill you. We do not take such evil lightly and we pray for your protection and for God to thwart every plan of harm, for no weapon that is formed against you will prevail as promised in Isaiah 54:17, and for Him who dwells in the secret place of the Most High to be your refuge as in Psalm 91:1-2. We pray that if this evil intent is true, God will expose it fully and bring it to justice, and that He will bring the perpetrators to repentance or to account.

We agree with you in praying that they both put God first and that every idol would be exposed and destroyed. You shall have no other gods before me as the Lord commands in Exodus 20:3, and we pray that any love of money, power, lust, or self that has taken God's place in their hearts would be torn down, for we are to seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness as taught in Matthew 6:33. We pray that the former landlord would no longer serve idols but would serve the living God with a whole heart.

So we pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we have access to You and no other name by which we are saved. We lift up this sister in Christ to You, strengthen her faith, anoint her lips to speak truth in love, and use her as an instrument of conviction and grace in her brother's life. Lord, shine Your light into every dark place concerning this apartment and concerning all that has been done in secret, expose every lie and every idol and destroy what is not of You so that repentance may come. Bring the former landlord and this woman to a place of godly sorrow that leads to repentance, turn them from sexual immorality and from all wicked schemes, and save them if they are not truly Yours. Protect our dear one who was harmed and threatened, surround them with Your angels, grant them peace and justice, and help them to forgive as You have forgiven us while trusting You to judge righteously. Let Your will be done and Your name be glorified in all of this, and let hearts be changed to put You first in all things. We ask all this in Jesus' name, amen.

We have been holding your request before the Lord. It is understandable to want truth to come into the light, especially when you felt unsafe in your housing and carry such heavy memories of that time. We are praying with you for the sister who loves Jesus, that God would keep strengthening her faith and give her wisdom and courage in how she speaks and acts in her family.

We also hear how much weight you are still carrying about what happened with the apartment and the relationships involved. We are asking God to give you protection, peace and clear next steps as you move forward, and to bring what needs to be known into the light in His way and time. We pray too that both the former landlord and the woman you mentioned would turn toward God and that anything taking His place would lose its hold.

Father, we lift this sister to You, keep her close to You and guide her words. We lift our friend who wrote, surround them with Your peace and protection, lead them to safe community and wise counsel, and let Your truth and mercy be at work in every part of this situation. Your burden has been heard and we join you in bringing it before the throne of grace, to the living God who is true in His very nature and true in all generations.

We pray first for you, that the Lord who lifts the poor from the dunghill and casts down the mighty from their seats will be your protection. When hidden dangers and the violence of men threaten, He is still the God who dwells alone in His sovereignty and yet draws near to His afflicted people. May you be emptied of fear and filled with His fulness, wise with His wisdom, and kept in perfect peace as you trust in Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other.

We pray for the sister who has faith in Jesus, that God will continue to speak through her as a messenger from Himself. As mothers and sisters and faithful witnesses have often been made potent messengers from God, so we ask that her voice may be clear and courageous, that she may hold fast the truth and be as a pillar and ground of the truth in her own household. We pray that what has been kept in darkness will be brought into the light, for our God is not a God of deceit and He will in His time reveal what is hidden, that truth which honors God, glorifies Christ and humbles man may prevail. We ask that no deceit may prosper and that she may walk in the light and speak the truth in love.

We pray for the former landlord, that the Lord will send him a message that he cannot escape, to turn him from his sins to the living and true God. We do not ask God to bless what He has called sin, for sex apart from the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman in marriage does not honor Him, and living together outside that covenant is contrary to His holy design. We pray instead that both he and the woman with whom he has sinned may see their need of repentance, that they may be convicted of sin and led to the mercy, compassion and grace which is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is both tender and just, dreadful in holiness and full of forgiveness to those who repent and believe.

We pray that they may both seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, putting God first above all other loves and loyalties. This is the one easily besetting sin of our nature, to turn aside from the living God and make unto ourselves idols, whether of money, or lust, or power, or self. We join your prayer that every idol may be exposed and utterly abolished, that each heart may say from henceforth, What have I to do any more with idols, and that the whole nature may become the temple of the living God. Where promises have been broken and dwellings have been made dangerous for gain, we pray that God will dry up the green tree of pride and cause the humble to flourish, for He will not suffer injustice to stand forever.

We ask that the Word of God, which prevails over sin, may be planted in that family and in your own heart, bringing conviction, cleansing and new life. May the Spirit of God fill all who hear with earnestness to obey the truth through the Spirit and to purify their souls before Him.

We pray for your safety and for justice. May the Lord preserve your life, guide those in authority to act righteously concerning the dwelling that has endangered you, and bring to nothing every evil purpose formed against you. May He who caused the earth to open in judgment and who also opened His arms in mercy on the cross be your defense and your deliverer.

We commit all these things to our Mighty and Powerful God, praying that He will be King over every heart concerned, and that all may be brought to say, Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God, through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name alone we pray. Amen.
