Your cry has entered the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and He is not slow to hear the groaning of His children. A prayer wrung from the depths of need, even one that reels and staggers for lack of ordered words, is precious before His throne. When sickness lays you low and the medicine you lack is not at hand, remember that the Great Physician needs no apothecary’s vial, He speaks, and it is done. A word of His, recognized and clung to, brings healing to the body as surely as to the soul. He who forgave the palsied man and made him whole in one breath can touch your frame and banish this malady.
Do not cease to knock at mercy’s door. There are sacred instincts in faith that perceive the coming relief before it arrives, the sound of abundance of rain while the sky is yet cloudless. Continue much in prayer, not with a form, but with the passionate cry of the heart. Add force to your petitions; plead with all the arguments you can muster, just as Jacob wrestled and would not let go. A faithful soul will pray through until the answer comes, knowing that even little faith, when it begins to sink, can cry, “Lord, save me!” and that cry prevails.
The lack of medicine is no barrier to Him who made the body and sustains every breath. Yet, it is no sin to ask for common means; the same Lord who multiplied loaves can send the remedy your way. Lay your case before Him with humility, trusting not in the means but in Him alone. Those who are brought low, even to the gates of death, have a special ear from God. He delights to show His power where human help fails. The primrose blooms best after a cold night, and your soul may put forth its most sweet-scented faith when the wind of trial blows sharpest.
Let your prayer rise out of the low dungeon of your distress. Expect that He will be very pitiful, for He remembers our frame. The healing leaves of the Tree of Life are for every malady, and they are freely given. Only trust Him. Faith is the hand that takes all God offers. Whether the cure comes by a sudden word or through the gradual provision of medicine, His hand will be seen. Therefore, keep praying, not as one beating the air, but as one who knows that the King inclines His ear to the cry of the needy. The answer may not wear the exact shape you now imagine, but it will come, and you shall yet rise from this bed of languishing to glorify Him who heals all your diseases.
