Thank You especially for the quiet, inexpensive, accommodating boarding, Acts 28:30-31, close to my aging patriarchal and matriarchal figures, and ask You give them assistance in practical and spiritual matters and allow me to further Your work in their lives along the same line, even with some godly company showing piety at home, 1 Tim 5:4, giving honor to whom honor is due, Rom 13:7, Eph 6:2-3.

We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of gratitude for God’s daily mercies and faithfulness, just as Lamentations 3:23 declares, "They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." It is a profound truth that His steadfast love never ceases, and His compassions never fail. We rejoice in the work He has already accomplished in your life, your devotion to prayer, study, and the care of those entrusted to you. The Lord has indeed been your strength and provision in every area, from worship to practical needs, and we give Him all the glory.

Yet we must also acknowledge the tension you feel between holding onto the past, particularly in interceding for the salvation and spiritual growth of those from former seasons of your life, and embracing the new things God is doing, as Isaiah 42:9 and 43:19 promise. This is a holy tension, one that Ecclesiastes 7:18 wisely instructs us to navigate: "It is good that you should take hold of this. Yes, also from that don’t withdraw your hand; for he who fears God will come out of them all." We must not neglect the burden God has placed on our hearts for the lost or the straying, even as we step forward into the fresh works He is preparing.

But let us be clear: our primary focus must always be on what God is doing now, the open doors for evangelism, the opportunities to disciple, the fresh revelation of His Word. The apostle Paul, though he never forgot his past (Philippians 3:13), pressed forward toward the upward call of Christ. We must do the same, laying aside every weight and sin that so easily entangles, running with endurance the race set before us (Hebrews 12:1-2). This includes the weight of past relationships that may no longer align with God’s will. If there are any lingering attachments, emotional, spiritual, or otherwise, that hinder your full surrender to God’s new work, we must bring them before the Lord in repentance. The enemy would love to keep us bound to what was, but Christ has set us free for what will be.

We also lift up your aging patriarchal and matriarchal figures, asking God to grant them strength, wisdom, and spiritual vitality. May you be a blessing to them, honoring them as Scripture commands (Ephesians 6:2-3, 1 Timothy 5:4), while also being a conduit of God’s grace in their lives. Let your home be a place where godly piety is modeled and where the Word of God is honored.

Now, we pray with you:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unchanging faithfulness and the new mercies You provide each day. We ask that You would open the heavens over this dear one, pouring out Your Spirit in fresh measure for prayer, study, and evangelism. Give them grace to intercede for the lost and straying, even as they fix their eyes on the new things You are doing. Lord, open doors no man can shut (Revelation 3:7-8) for the Gospel to go forth, for disciples to be made, and for Your name to be glorified.

Father, we ask for wisdom to balance the old and the new, to hold fast to what is good without being ensnared by what is past. Strengthen them to finish every task You’ve assigned, to set things in order as Titus 1:5 instructs, and to meet every pressing need with the grace You provide (Titus 3:14). Guard their heart from distractions, temptations, and the schemes of the evil one. Let them run in such a way as to win the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24), forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead (Philippians 3:13-14).

We pray for the salvation of the former matrimonial relationship and the prodigy, that they would come to a full, authentic repentance and trust in Christ. Yet we also pray that this one would not be consumed by what was, but would walk in the freedom of what is and what will be. May their life be a testament to Your transforming power, a vessel for Your glory, and a light to those who are lost.

Lord, we ask for protection from sin, evil, and the evil one. Deliver them from every temptation (Luke 11:4) and let them walk in righteousness (Zephaniah 3:13). May their home be a sanctuary of Your presence, and may they be a blessing to those around them, especially their aging loved ones.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who makes all things new. May Your will be done in this life as it is in heaven. Amen.

We understand the ache of holding past concerns before the Lord while sensing a clear call to step into what is new. That tension you describe, wanting to intercede for a distant former relationship and prodigy, yet also feeling the Spirit’s nudge to shift your main focus, is not a sign of spiritual weakness. It’s the honest struggle of a heart that loves deeply and also longs to obey wholly.

Grace to do both, as you prayed from Ecclesiastes, often shows up in the way we structure our days. One small, grounded step might be to set a brief, closed-ended time each day to lift up those you carry for salvation, and then, with intention, entrust them again to the only One who can truly reach them. Then turn your energies without guilt to the new things God is placing before you: the prepared studies, the open door for the gospel, the souls under your care. That intentional boundary can help you obey the shift without feeling you’ve abandoned the past.

We’re praying with you that the Lord who opens doors no one can shut will make the path ahead plain, and that as you take hold of the new, you’ll sense His pleasure.

Lord Jesus, thank You for daily mercies and for the faithfulness You never withdraw. Meet this dear servant in the push toward things You are now doing. Grant clarity to see the doors You’ve already opened, and courage to walk through them without being tangled by regret or distraction. For the ones he still cries out for, we ask You to work in ways he cannot. Keep his own heart focused on Your present assignments, anointed by Your Spirit, and at rest in Your timing. In Your strong name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The constant temptation is to look back upon that which is past, to become entangled again in the yoke of bondage from which Grace has set you free. You speak of a distant matrimonial and of prodigy, and truly, to intercede for souls is a blessed duty, yet the prayer that lingers longest in the past may become a subtle snare, keeping your eyes from the new thing which the Lord declares He will do. You cannot hold the plough while gazing over your shoulder at the furrow already turned. The old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new! New views, new desires, new aims, new principles! And what is this new thing? It is to care for the flock among you, to set your own house in order, to show piety at home to those aging figures and to give honor to whom honor is due. That is the new work, the present duty, and it is never to be drowned in sighs over a former estate that is beyond your own mending.

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things shall be added. Grace has not appointed you to be a perpetual mourner over unrepented sins of others, but to be a joyful herald of Him who makes all things new. Let the dead bury their dead; you follow Christ into the open doors He sets before you now. The very prayer for grace to do both reveals a divided heart, but the glorious sovereignty of Grace will teach you to let go of the one to take hold of the other with both hands. He that is in Christ is a new creature; the old hesitations, the old distractions, the old anxious dividings of mind are passed away in Him. To worry for the past is heathenish, a seeking after the wind; to move forward in present duty is the sweet compulsion of reigning Grace.

The mercies of God are new every morning, not a stale repetition of yesterday’s sorrows. Great is His faithfulness, yes, but that faithfulness is seen in the new provision for the new day, not in the endless re-ploughing of the old. Grace has more than restored what sin took away; where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. You have silver from the past; Grace has given you gold for the present. Let not the beggarly elements of what was enslave you to a partial obedience. The same Grace which first formed you in the womb and preventively kept you from a thousand deaths now calls you to set things in order where you are, to strengthen the things that remain, and to meet the pressing need that is before your own eyes. This is the new song He has put in your mouth, and you will never sing it while humming the dirge of former days.

Run, then, that you may obtain. Lay aside every weight, and especially that clinging weight of a misplaced zeal for what God Himself may have given over to its own way. Press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, forgetting those things which are behind. The life of faith abides in the present tense of the Spirit’s leading, not in the imperfect tense of former unions. Trust the same Grace that saved you to keep all that concerns you, and pour out your strength upon the new study, the new evangelism, the new fellowship, and the immediate duties to those aged patriarchs and matriarchs. In doing this, you will find that the lesser anxieties will be added unto you or taken away according to His infallible wisdom, and the joy of your Lord will be your strength until the day breaks and the shadows flee away.
