We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of gratitude for the daily mercies and faithfulness of the Lord, as Lamentations 3:23 reminds us, "They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." It is by the name of Jesus Christ alone that we have access to the Father, and it is through His sacrifice that we are saved. There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). We rejoice in the truth that salvation is found in no one else, and we pray that all would come to know this life-giving truth.

We lift up the prayer for the salvation and edification of those from former seasons of life, asking that the Lord would stir their hearts to repentance and faith in Christ. Romans 10:1 tells us, "Brothers, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God is for Israel, that they may be saved." We join in this prayer, asking that the Lord would draw them to Himself, that they may be regenerated by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:15). We also pray for the prodigal to be saved early, protected, and directed into the love and character of Jesus Christ.

We acknowledge the tension between holding onto the old while embracing the new, as Ecclesiastes 7:18 instructs, "It is good that you should take hold of this. Yes, also from that don’t withdraw your hand; for he who fears God will come out of them all." We ask for wisdom and grace to navigate this balance, trusting that the Lord will guide us in focusing on the new things He is doing (Isaiah 42:9, 43:19, 48:6). We pray for open doors for the Gospel, as Revelation 3:7-8 promises, "He who opens and no one can shut; and that shuts and no one opens... See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it."

We are grateful for the provision of quiet and inexpensive lodging, allowing for care of aging parents and the opportunity to minister to them. We pray that the Lord would give grace to honor father and mother (Ephesians 6:2-3), showing piety at home (1 Timothy 5:4) and giving honor where it is due (Romans 13:7). We ask for strength to set things in order (Titus 1:5), finish tasks (Revelation 3:2), and meet every pressing need (Titus 3:14).

We rebuke any temptation to dwell on the past in a way that hinders the work God has called us to today. Instead, we press on toward the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14), forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead. We ask for grace to lay aside every encumbrance and sin that so easily entangles us (Hebrews 12:1-2), that we may run the race set before us with endurance.

We pray for protection from temptation (Luke 11:4), sin (Zephaniah 3:13), evil (Matthew 6:13), evil people (2 Thessalonians 3:2), and the evil one (John 17:15). We ask that the Lord would keep us from falling and present us blameless before His glorious presence with great joy (Jude 1:24).

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the privilege of coming before Your throne of grace. We ask that You would open the heavens over us, drawing us nearer to You in prayer and study. Open doors for evangelism, fellowship, and counseling, that we may make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that Christ has commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). Empower us to glorify You in all we do, imaging God as we were created to do. We ask for grace to abide in Christ, walking in step with the Holy Spirit, and bearing fruit that brings glory to Your name. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

What a deeply layered prayer you've brought, and we can feel the weight of both your gratitude and your longing in it. You're holding a lot at once: daily mercies you've tasted, a former spouse and child you continue to lift before the Lord, and a desire to give your primary energy to the new things God is doing around and through you. That kind of tension can feel like trying to keep two different vessels filled while walking uphill, and we honor how faithfully you're bringing it all before the Father.

The balance you're seeking, interceding for the past without letting it eclipse the present work God has entrusted to you, is something we believe His grace can genuinely shape in you over time. God's acceptance of us never depends on our ability to hold everything perfectly. When we base our standing on what we receive from Him rather than what we manage to accomplish, we're freed from the anxious need to prove ourselves. Even your prayers for those you love can rest in His hands, not as a burden you carry but as a seed you keep placing into His faithful care while you also turn toward the doors He's opening right now, the boarding situation He's provided near your aging relatives, the studies, the flock around you, the gospel conversations waiting to happen. Pursuing the new isn't a betrayal of the old intercessions; it's obedience to the same Spirit who prompts both.

As you focus on the immediate duties and relationships He's set before you, we'd simply encourage you to keep bringing those distant loved ones to the Lord in your private prayer and then entrust them to Him for the day, releasing the outcome and turning your attention to what He's called you to today. That's not letting go; it's letting God carry what only He can carry.

We pray with you now:

Father, thank You for the mercy that meets us every morning and the faithfulness that holds steady under every change. For this dear one's former spouse and child, we ask again for genuine repentance, new life in Christ, and early salvation, according to Your will. Grant wisdom and strength to care well for aging family members nearby, and open the doors to Bible study, prayer, and gospel witness that You've prepared. Give grace to hold fast to every intercession without releasing the new things You are doing. Protect from the evil one, and let every task be completed for Your glory. In Jesus' name.

There are, however, "things that accompany Salvation." Picture then to yourselves the march of some ancient monarch through his territory. When earthly things are sought for as the main objective, they are degraded into rubbish and the seeker of them has fallen to be a mere man with a muckrake, turning over a dunghill to find nothing! Set your heart on nobler things than pelf!

All the fascinating things on earth may go, but the needful things we must have. About us are a thousand things entangling. If other things are necessary in a secondary place, β€œSeek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these shall be added unto you.” One thing is needful, and this is well arranged, for we cannot follow two things. If Christ be one of them, we cannot follow another.

This precious passage is the property of all true Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thus runs the Covenant, "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh." When the Apostle speaks of virtues and of graces, he calls them β€œthings that accompany Salvation,” not things which cause it. Our faith does not cause Salvation, nor our hope, nor our love, nor our good works; they are things which attend it as its guard of honor.

If we reject the Lord Jesus as our trust, teacher, and exemplar, we have no new life, we are not new creatures in Christ, and we can never be admitted within the holy gates. There is no merit in my faith, or my baptism, or my repentance, or my forsaking of sin, yet as You have put Your promise side by side with these things, and I have been obedient to them, I now come to you and say, 'Prove Your own Truth, for I have done all these things at Your Word.'

To help us to persevere even to the end, the Lord has made the new things known to us and has told us of them before they spring forth. "New things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them." You have promised a new heart. Give a new heart to me. Oh that blessed gift of faith! It soon brings a man to his knees.

Now, prayer is one of those things without which no man can find the Lord. Let the Christian seek to know to the fullest what is the heritage of the saints in Christ Jesus. "All these things shall be added unto you," and the measure of the addition shall be arranged by Infallible Wisdom. Unbelief says, "All these things are against me." But turn and hear the philosophy of experience: "O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit." And then the shout of triumph: "In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us."

You have been toiling, toiling very hard, and wiping the sweat from your brow. Courage, Brother! Courage, Sister! Let it be known that you have done all these things at His word. And if you ask grace to take hold of one thing without letting go of the other, remember the Lord looks on the mountains and the hills and declares that these and all things visible will pass away, but His kindness shall not depart from you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The very prayer you have lifted up shows a soul desirous of grace, and this is already a sign of the new creation at work within you. For it is the cross that has put to death all those former things, that we might walk in newness of life. And yet I perceive a trembling: a fear that in reaching toward the new, you might let go of a holy concern for what lies behind. But consider: God’s mercies are new every morning, and His faithfulness is the solid ground beneath your feet. He who commands us to forget what lies behind does not forbid us to pray for souls; he forbids us to be chained to the old age of grief and distraction. The new creature is not made by half measures: the whole oldness of sin is swallowed up, and we are called to run the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.

You ask for grace to do both: to intercede for the distant ones, and yet to pour your strength into the new things God now opens. This is the very balance of a wise householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old. The old command to honor father and mother, to care for your own household, this is piety that pleases God, and your aging parents are a present duty that must not be neglected. The flock among you, the doors for the gospel, the need to watch over your own soul and teaching: these are the new things springing up like streams in the desert. Do not let the sorrow of what is past make you deaf to the voice that calls you forward. The grace that is sufficient for you is not a small grace; it is the power of Christ, made perfect in your very weakness. It anointed the apostles to be both bold and lowly, and it will keep you as well, if you give thanks always and in everything.

Do not imagine that you know the appointed time for the salvation of those you love. The saints themselves often did not see the full plan; Elijah thought he was alone, yet God had many hidden. Your tears and prayers are not wasted, but they are not your primary commission. The cross has so transformed all things that circumcision and uncircumcision, the old distinctions, count for nothing; what matters is a new creation. Live as one who has been raised with Christ. Let your running be such that you may obtain the prize, not by forgetting that souls perish, but by refusing to let backward glances slow your stride. The enemy desires to entangle you again in a yoke of anxious thoughts, to make the affliction heavier than the eternal weight of glory it is working. Resist him: the temporal pain is light when set beside the unseen and eternal crown.

Therefore, continue in prayer for their full repentance and life in Christ, this is right and good. But let those prayers be the incense you offer as you move steadily into the new works God has prepared. Do not measure the present by the past; the old covenant was glorious, but the new surpasses it in every way. Your daily mercies are a proof that God’s grace has not run dry. Rise from your knees each morning, give thanks, and then take hold of the duties before you: the study of Scripture, the care of the flock, the honoring of your aged ones, the open door of utterance. It is a faithful saying that if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. The life you now live, live by faith in the Son of God, who loved you and gave Himself for you. That is the new thing; do not let the old steal its strength. Christ Himself touched the dead girl and she arose; He can do the same for those whom you entrust to Him. But while He tarries, you have the living to tend. Be at peace, and let grace have its perfect work.

Thank you for sharing this prayer, so richly woven with Scripture. The cry of your heart is clear, and the tension you feel is one that grace alone can hold together.

You are asking for the strength to do both: to remain a faithful intercessor for those you love whose souls hang in the balance, and yet to fully embrace the new thing God is doing, pouring your primary energy into the flock, the duties, and the open doors right before you. That prayer is according to Ecclesiastes, and it is wise. The grace of God that saved you is the same grace that teaches you to deny ungodliness, to live soberly and righteously. That same instruction applies here. The grace that brings salvation is not a passive covering; it is an active tutor, training you to release your grip on what is behind in order to take hold of what is ahead.

You are His workmanship, His poem. A life being crafted by God is a thing of grace and beauty. A poet does not stay stuck on the first stanza, however heartfelt. He moves the pen by inspiration, composing new lines that build on the old but lead somewhere glorious. Your anguish for your family's salvation is a holy and right burden, and you are right to persist in prayer, for salvation is not of works but of grace. But you are also right to sense that the Master Poet is writing a new stanza, and you must not frustrate the grace of God by refusing to turn the page.

When Paul was given the dispensation of grace, he was shown a mystery hidden from other ages: a body where Jew and Gentile are fellow heirs. The prophets did not foresee the church age. A new thing was born. You are living in the reality of such new things, and the doors God opens, no one can shut. As you dwell on the daily mercies and faithfulness of God, let them be the fresh manna that fuels today’s obedience, not a nostalgic storehouse that anchors you to a past season. His mercy is new this morning for the tasks He has assigned you this morning.

The pressure you feel, the stretching between intercession for the past and stewardship of the present, is not a narrow place meant to crush you. It is the place where you learn that the life you now live, you live by faith in the Son of God. The old center of self, which could be defined entirely by those former relationships and hopes, has been crucified with Christ. The new center is Christ Himself, and He is leading you out into a new environment, like a creature transformed to inhabit a new realm.

Do not receive the grace of God in vain. Accept it today for what it teaches you right now. Let Him accomplish the intercession through you in the silence while He goes before you to fight for the souls on your heart. Then, with the same Spirit, welcome the people He has placed around your table, care for the flock among you, attend to your own teaching and soul, and set in order what remains. That is not a divided heart; it is a heart ruled by the peace of God. Grace, mercy, and peace are yours not because you have perfectly balanced the scale, but because you are a beloved child, and those are the gifts the Father gives abundantly to His own.
