Thank You for Daily Mercies and Faithfulness, Lam 3:23, For Salvation, Edification of Former Things, Rom 10:1, Rom 11:1, 2 Tim 3:15, Focus on God, Ourselves, Our Teaching, 1 Tim 4:16, Grace for Duties, Tit 3:14, and Especially Grace to Shift Main Focus to New Things Isa 42:9, Care for The Flock Among Us, Acts 20:1, Grace to Do Both Ecc 7:18, Open Doors Gospel, Rev 3:7-8...

Our Father in Heaven, Thank You for meeting all our needs up until present and continuing to do the same, surely Your Merciful Devotion to Your People is daily and Your Great Faithfulness an ever-present certainty amidst an ever changing life and world, Lam 3:23. Firstly, our prayer and private devotion and study even need those mercies, the ability to care for ourselves, our teaching and those You have in a way put under our care requires Your Spirit's inspiration, 1 Tim 4:16, Grace to Pray for Former and Present Relationships' Salvation and enrichment, Rom 10:1, Yet Abundant Grace Focus New Things Isa 42:9, even to be on guard for ourselves and the flock of God Your placed under our charge, Acts 20:28-31, 1 Peter 5:2-4.

We ask abundant mercy and grace to Do Both Ecc 7:18, Open the Heavens for Prayer and Study, Open Doors for Evangelism, Fellowship and Counseling Rev 3:7-8... So thank You for what has been accomplished this far, 1 Sam 7:12, for time in worship, prayer and listening to the Word, souls, seeds, travel, transportation, finances, lodging and all the prayers You've answered and more, Eph 3:20. Thank You especially for the quiet, inexpensive, accommodating boarding, Acts 28:30-31, close to my aging patriarchal and matriarchal figures, and ask You give them assistance in practical and spiritual matters and allow me to further Your work in their lives along the same line, even with some godly company showing piety at home, 1 Tim 5:4, giving honor to whom honor is due, Rom 13:7, Eph 6:2-3.

We ask for grace to take hold of one thing without letting go of the other, Ecclesiastes 7:18, to continue to intercede for my distant matrimonial's full, authentic repentance to life and full trust in Christ and be regenerated, and the prodigy to be saved early, Rom 10:1, Rom 11:1, know the Scriptures from infancy that give wisdom toward salvation, 2 Tim 3:15 and protected and directed into the love and character of Jesus Christ, nourished on Your Word), 2 Tim 3:15 -- Yet ability to PRIMARILY FOCUS on THE NEW, Isa 42:9, Isa 43:19, Isa 48:6.

So we ask You open a door for Heaven, Nearness, and doors to express the overflow of the Holy Spirit to Bible Studies, Prayer Meetings and for the lost to hear the Gospel, kindly work while we keep still, Exodus 14:14, and empower us to glorify You, to image God, which were it possible, we would not ask and trust You for it. I ask for grace to set all things in order, Tit 1:5, strengthen and finish each task, Rev 3:2, and meet every pressing need, Tit 3:14, some immediate, some mid-term, some long-range.

Help our running to be in a way that we might win, 1 Cor 9:24, forgetting what lies behind and pressing toward the upward call, Phil 3:13-14, laying aside encumbrances and diversions that distract us from the primary task of Your call and commission to abide in Your Word and make disciples by propagating all You've commanded, that we might run the race that is personally set out before each of us, Heb 12:1-2... Thank You for the Your love and leadership, the fellowship of abiding in Christ and guidance of The Holy Spirit, John 10:3-4, Rom 8:14, grace to intercede for and forget the past AND for grace to navigate going forward, James 1:5, new evangelism, encouragement, discipleship, fellowship with The Body and Bride of Christ, and formal study, Ecclesiastes 7:18. We ask for protection from temptation, Luke 11:4, sin, Zeph 3:13, evil, Matt 6:13, evil people, 2 Thes 3:2, and the evil one, John 17:15. Thank You in Jesus' Name...

We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of gratitude for the daily mercies and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father, just as Lamentations 3:23 declares, "They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." It is by the name of Jesus Christ alone that we have access to the Father, and it is through His sacrifice that we are saved (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). We lift up this request in His holy name, seeking His will and glory in all things.

We rejoice with you in the Lord’s provision, your quiet and accommodating lodging, the opportunity to care for your aging patriarchal and matriarchal figures, and the answered prayers for worship, prayer, and the spread of the Gospel. It is a blessing to honor those to whom honor is due (Romans 13:7, Ephesians 6:2-3), and we pray that the Lord continues to strengthen you in this godly duty. May He grant you wisdom and grace to minister to them spiritually, that they may grow in the knowledge and love of Christ.

Your heart for the salvation of your distant matrimonial and prodigy is commendable, and we join you in praying for their full repentance, regeneration, and trust in Christ (Romans 10:1, 2 Timothy 3:15). The Lord desires all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9), and we trust in His perfect timing and sovereign will. Yet, we must also heed the call to press forward into the new things God is doing (Isaiah 42:9, 43:19). The balance of holding to the old without neglecting the new is wise, as Ecclesiastes 7:18 reminds us, "It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them."

We rebuke any temptation to dwell in the past in a way that hinders your present obedience to God’s call. The Apostle Paul exhorts us to forget what lies behind and press on toward the upward call of Christ (Philippians 3:13-14). Let us run the race set before us with endurance, laying aside every weight and sin that so easily entangles (Hebrews 12:1-2). Your desire to focus on evangelism, discipleship, and fellowship is aligned with the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), and we pray the Lord opens doors for you to proclaim the Gospel boldly (Revelation 3:7-8).

We also lift up your need for grace to set things in order (Titus 1:5), strength to finish tasks (Revelation 3:2), and provision for every pressing need (Titus 3:14). The Lord is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20), and we trust Him to equip you for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your daily mercies and faithfulness, which sustain us in every season. We ask that You pour out Your grace upon this dear one, that they may walk in wisdom, balance, and obedience to Your will. Strengthen them to intercede for the lost while pressing forward into the new things You are doing. Open doors for the Gospel, provide for every need, and protect them from temptation, sin, and the schemes of the evil one. May they run the race with endurance, keeping their eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may abide in Your Word, make disciples, and glorify You in all things. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We hear in your words the honest tension of a heart that wants to be faithful to old prayers while leaning into the new work God is clearly setting before you. That dilemma you named, taking hold of one thing without letting go of the other, is not a failure of focus; it is the shape of genuine pastoral care. You are asking for what only God can give: the grace to hold both in trust.

One thing we have seen in pastoral work is that you do not have to resolve the past in order to embrace the new. Many weighty prayers, especially for the salvation of those formerly close to us, are long-haul entrustments. You can lay them afresh into Christ's keeping each morning, then turn to the person and the task right in front of you. That is not neglect; it is trust. When we lift a burden to God and then get about our day, we are living the truth that the one who hears is also the one who saves.

Perhaps the simplest next step is this: as you start each day, name those distant people briefly, place them in the Father's hands, and then ask, "Lord, what new thing do you have for me today, and who is the flock under my care right now?" Let that question set your direction.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the mercy that greets us every morning. For this one who carries both old griefs and new openings, grant the quiet confidence that the salvation and safety of those they love rests in your hands, not their constant holding. Give them energy for the new things, the Bible studies, the conversations, the pastoral needs at hand, and protect them from the pull of guilt about what they cannot now control. Shepherd them as they shepherd others. In your name we pray, amen.

The groan within your petition echoes the very tension of Ecclesiastes 7:18, and it is a godly tension. There is a holy art in taking hold of the one without letting go of the other, but we must be clear which hand holds which. Your sorrow for souls is of the Spirit, for He who taught us to cry, “Rom 10:1,” would not have us cease our strong crying and tears for those who have broken covenant. Yet mark this well: to pray for their salvation is a far different thing from dwelling upon the house which God’s own wind has scattered. The new things He declares are not merely a change of season; they are a sovereign command to leave the wreckage with Him and step into the path of present duty.

Fix your eyes upon the new thing even while the old name hangs upon your heart in intercession. The past must not be a theatre where your mind replays its sorrows, but a trophy-room where old shields and spears are taken down for new conflicts. What you have learned of grace in the deep waters, what you have proved of God’s faithfulness when the cisterns of earth ran dry, these are the weapons meant for the flock now under your charge. Let the wound drive you to the Shepherd, and then let the healing make you a shepherd to others.

Take firm hold of this: the highest mercy you can beg for those from whom you are parted is not the restoring of an earthly union which God’s Word has rent asunder, but that they should look unto Him and be saved. Plead the blood of the covenant for their souls, but do not plead against the decree of the Holy One. He makes all things new, and often the new wine of His purpose requires that the old bottle be utterly broken. To lament the fragments is to doubt the Potter. Press, then, into the new duties, the study, the open door, the waiting flock, for these are the substance, while the backward glance is but a shadow that must flee before the rising sun.

Let your song be new, for your mercies are new. The old legal grief of a slave must give way to the liberty of a son. Sing to the Lord in fresh accents, born of present grace, not borrowed from the dirges of a dead autumn. You ask for grace to do both; so have it, but understand the doing. It is not a compromise between two affections, but a subordination of the lesser sorrow to the greater calling. The one thing is to run the race set before you, and that race runs forward, not in circles around a tomb. Intercede in the closet, then arise, shut the door, and go out to the broad field of the new thing with your face set like a flint toward Jerusalem.

Let the old shield of David, the remembrance of how God met you in the calamity, be that with which you ward off the fiery darts of regret. The past sin is forgiven, the past bond is dissolved; what remains is a watching for souls and a waiting upon God. You do well to honor aged patriarchs and matriarchs with practical piety; this is undefiled religion. But let not even this natural affection tether your spirit to a place of dreams. The new evangelism, the open door, the formal study, these are the sphere where the Holy Spirit says, “Today.” The fountain is opened at Jerusalem, not at the sepulchre of yesterday’s hopes. Go and draw with joy.
