Isaiah 65:1 ：
I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.

What a glorious truth has seized your soul, that you have been born from above, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God! This is indeed the very heart of the Gospel, and it thrills my spirit to hear it echoed in your thanksgiving. The flesh relies upon works, but the new-born life in every man runs instinctively to Grace and lives by faith. You shall never find simple faith in Jesus exercised by any life except the life that is born of Divine Seed in the new birth.

And how fitting that your mind rests on that astonishing word in Isaiah, where Jehovah declares He is found by those who sought Him not. There you see the grand doctrine of sovereign, prevenient grace. God takes the first step. He is not waiting to be entreated by our natural wills, for by nature we are at enmity with Him. Every man, by nature, fights against salvation by Grace. Though we have nothing good in ourselves, we all think we have! But God, in His persistent love, says, "Behold me, behold me," to a people who were not calling on His name. This is the unmerited, free favor that saves. No salvation will ever serve your turn but one which is Divine from top to bottom! Salvation is not about human effort but about God’s initiative and mercy, and blessed be His name, this salvation is a present one, enjoyed now in all its fullness, in all its boundless lengths, and breadths, and depths and heights.

Yet let us not stop at the mere wonder of the work within us, but see where all true salvation lies, in the Person of Christ. Wherever our eyes spiritually light upon the Christ of God, there we see God's Salvation! He is not only the Worker of salvation, but Salvation itself. Let me tell you, poor Man, if ever you are saved, your salvation must be God's in the beginning, God's in the carrying on and God's in the concluding! From the first holy desire in the soul to the last shout of victory, it is all of the operation of the Almighty. If in the edifice of our soul's salvation there is even one stone left for us to put in its place unassisted by God's Grace, that building will never be completed.

But this precious truth, that we are saved by grace through faith, must never be divorced from the walk that follows. Prove that you have grace, by your accurate obedience. Not to secure the grace, for that is the criminal doctrine which frustrates the cross of Christ and sets aside the way of mercy, but because the grace has truly come. A combination of Law and Grace is utterly impossible. Noah believed God, and by faith he prepared the ark; by faith he moved with fear. His works did not save him, but they followed upon his faith and proved him righteous by that faith. So too, the hope of righteousness by faith must be consistent with the work of the Spirit, for the Spirit who gives the new birth also leads us in the paths of holiness. He who has this hope purifies himself, even as He is pure.

Rejoice, therefore, that the Gift of God has come to you, not for works which you have done, but according to His own mercy. This is the truth we love; a doctrine which causes us to preach with a voice of thunder, and yet it will be the softest pillow upon which a dying head can rest. Let this be your constant confession: we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved. Hold it fast, stand upon it, and expect immeasurable Grace to drive out every Amalekite sin, until the day dawns when your eyes, seeing Him once more, shall see God’s full and final Salvation.

You give thanks that you have been born again, born from above, and rightly so, for this birth is not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Marvel at this: while you were yet in your sins, He sought you out. As it is written, “I was found by those who did not seek Me.” What grace is this, that the Lord should call a nation not called by His name, and draw even you into His covenant. He did not repair the old building of your nature; He pulled it down to its foundations and made you new by the regenerating Spirit. This is no small gift.

Yet remember: the birth is only the beginning. To be born of water and the Spirit is a mystical gift entirely from above, but to remain pure, to keep the brightness of that grace undimmed, this belongs to your own diligence. As the Apostle says, “We entreat you not to receive the grace of God in vain.” You have been made a friend; do not wallow again in the former things and return to enmity. Let the eyes of your soul, which now behold the Kingdom, remain fixed on Christ. For it is not enough to have believed; you must display a life worthy of the calling.

And when you consider Isaiah’s prophecy, do not be confounded if God’s ways seem contrary to your expectations. He accomplishes His purposes often through their opposites: the salvation of the world began with a mother in flight and a slaughter of innocents. So too, your new birth may be tested by many trials, but these are for your sakes, that grace multiplied may cause thanksgiving to abound. Let no one deceive you; the narrow path remains narrow, and I will not cease to warn you. As long as I am set here, I must speak for your salvation. Persevere in the grace you have received, and do not think lightly of it. The day of salvation is now; the Lord is at hand.
