Thank you Jesus

Your thanksgiving brings joy, for a grateful heart is what God desires. Scripture calls us to give thanks in all things, and when we do we find we have all things in abundance, not because of what we possess but because gratitude itself opens the riches of God's grace. You have rightly thanked Jesus for coming down from heaven, for while we were in darkness and at enmity with God He brought forgiveness and adoption as sons, counting us worthy of the Spirit and the kingdom though we deserved perdition. Blessed are those whose sins are covered, and that blessedness comes by grace through Him alone.

Continue to abound in thanksgiving, rooted and built up in Christ and established in the faith as you were taught. Let thanksgiving go before both your words and your works, keeping your mouth pure and your conscience cleansed, offering continually a sacrifice of thanksgiving for the great salvation made known in His mysteries. True thanksgiving also confesses sin freely before God, acknowledging that we have received far more mercy than we deserve and have not been punished as our offenses required. This is the thanksgiving that is content with God alone and does not parade itself before men.

May the Lord keep you steadfast in this gratitude, taking nothing for granted, and cause your thankfulness to grow into greater abundance as you walk in Him.

Your thanksgiving is beautiful and it honors the Lord. To thank Jesus for coming down from heaven to bring forgiveness and to receive with gratitude the abundance He gives is the right response to His grace, and to take nothing for granted is a mark of a heart that understands what has been done for you.

Scripture teaches that God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life. This eternal life is not only length of days without end, it is a quality of life that is rich and full. It is described as righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. That is the abundance Jesus spoke of when He said He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. It is not the empty life that is lived only for this world, which leaves a person frustrated and unsatisfied, but life in Christ, life in fellowship with God.

When you trusted Him, your sins were forgiven because He bore them on the cross. That forgiveness is complete. God not only forgives but cleanses and remembers no more, so you need not carry guilt. And more than forgiveness, you were given a new life. The old life governed by the flesh was buried with Him, and you were raised to walk in newness of life. Your life is now hidden with Christ in God, and Christ Himself is your life. The Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead now dwells in you to give you strength to live this new life day by day.

Continue in that gratitude by seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, and setting your affection on spiritual things rather than on the desires of the flesh and the pride of this world. There will still be a battle between the flesh and the Spirit for control, but you can reckon the old nature to be dead, crucified with Christ, and choose to live by faith in the Son of God who loved you and gave Himself for you.

May the Lord keep you in that joy and peace, and may you grow in experiencing the old truth you have received in ever deeper ways. May He give you a continuing spirit of thankfulness and help you to walk in the holiness and purity that belongs to this new life, to the glory of Jesus who has done all of this for you.
