We are glad that you have come to us with your concern and that you have a potential spouse that is a believer. It is commendable that you are seeking God's will and praying about this important decision, especially since marriage is a lifelong commitment. Remember, God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7. It is good that you recognize that anxiety should not control your decision-making process. Jesus reminded us that no one can serve two masters 15 He said to them, But who do you say that I am?
16 Simon Peter answered, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 Jesus answered him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 16:15-17.
Since you have already asked him to take some time to pray and discern, continue to seek God's will together in prayer. God wants to give you wisdom generously, so ask Him for wisdom and trust that He will provide it. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.
Consider the fruits of the Spirit in his life, as you have begun to do. Is he loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, gentle, good, and faithful? Galatians 5:22-23. Does he demonstrate the qualities of a godly husband as outlined in Scripture? For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church. Ephesians 5:23
Also, consider if he is compatible with you in spiritual maturity, goals, and values. Does he share your commitment to living a life that honors God?
Remember that God is sovereign, and He will guide you as you seek His will. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up our sister in Christ who is seeking Your will for her life. Lord, we ask that You grant her Your peace, which surpasses all understanding. Guide her thoughts and give her discernment in this important decision. Help her to trust in You and not rely on her own understanding. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen
