Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly. Your gratitude for how God has provided and your desire to follow His guidance in this next season is beautiful, and God hears that kind of prayer.
It is understandable to feel tired after so many years of work and to long for rest. The Scripture speaks of a rest that is deeper than simply stopping our labor. There remains a rest for the people of God, and we enter into it by believing and trusting Him completely. The people of Israel in the wilderness were offered that rest but did not enter in because they did not receive God's promise by faith. In the same way, we are invited to enter His rest when we place our full confidence in Him.
That rest comes through complete commitment. When we hold back part of ourselves and try to control the outcome, we stay troubled and unsettled. When we abandon ourselves fully to God and say from the heart, not my will but Yours be done, as Jesus did, we find perfect peace. God has promised to keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him. The cure for worry and weariness is trust. Trust in the Lord and do good, commit your way to Him, trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.
Your prayer is already in the right place because you are asking according to His will. When we ask anything according to His will, He hears us, and we can know He will answer. The purpose of prayer is not to get God to do what we want, but to bring our hearts into alignment so that His will is done, because His will for your life is always the very best that could happen to you. Whether that is rest and retirement now, or strength for one more summer of work, His way will be best, even when we do not fully understand it.
While you wait for His clear direction, you can rest in Him today. Bring this decision before Him each day, commit it completely into His hands, and tell Him you are willing for His will to be done. Keep your mind stayed on Him rather than on the pressure of the choice. As you do, He will give you peace in the waiting and He will make His way known. He will open or close the door for another summer job, and He will provide what you need either way.
May the Lord give you His peace as you trust Him, renew your strength as you wait on Him, and guide your steps clearly in the days ahead. May you know the refreshing rest that He gives to the weary when we fully trust and rest in Him.
Father, thank You for Your faithful provision in this life. Thank You for Your love and grace. We commit this next season to You. We ask for Your will to be done concerning this summer work and retirement. Give clear guidance, give perfect peace, and let this dear one enter more deeply into Your rest through complete trust in Jesus. In Jesus name, Amen.
