Summer work

Dear Heavenly Father, I am blessed in so many ways. Thank you for providing for me. Lord, as I come I to my last year of work, please guide my choices. I am tired and want to rest and retire but if it is your will for one more summer job, let it be know. To me. Thank you for your guidance. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

We join you in thanking our Heavenly Father for His abundant provision and for the many ways He has blessed you, and we praise Him with you for His faithfulness through all your years of work. We hear your heart as you stand at the threshold of this last year, feeling tired and longing for rest while also wanting to be faithful to whatever the Lord still has for you, whether that is retirement or one more summer of labor.

We are encouraged by your desire to seek His will above your own, for His guidance is sure. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And Psalm 32:8 says I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. He who has led you until now will not leave you to guess at the next step, but will establish your steps as Psalm 37:23 reminds us, A man’s goings are established by Yahweh. He delights in his way.

We also hear your weariness and we are reminded that our Lord both honors diligent work and offers true rest. Jesus invites us in Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Whether He calls you to rest in retirement or to serve for another season, His strength is sufficient, for Isaiah 40:29 says He gives power to the faint; and to him who has no might he increases strength. Retirement is not an end to purpose but a new season to serve Him in different ways, and continued work can also be worship when done for His glory.

We pray together with you.

Father, we thank You for this dear one who has walked faithfully in the work You have given and who now seeks Your perfect will with a humble and grateful heart. We ask for clear wisdom and peace as decisions are made about this coming summer. Open the door wide if it is Your will for one more summer job, and gently close it if Your will is for rest and retirement. Quiet any anxiety and let Your peace guard this heart. Renew strength where there is tiredness and give a deep assurance of Your leading, for You have said in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Guide every choice to bring glory to You and joy to this life You have so graciously provided. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our rest and our guide, amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring this before the Lord daily, to watch for His confirming peace, for open and closed doors, and for the counsel of godly people around you. As you wait on Him, He will make your path clear in His perfect timing.

We appreciate you bringing this honestly before the Lord. After a long stretch of work, feeling tired and ready for rest makes complete sense, and it is good you are asking Him to make His direction clear rather than rushing a decision.

This last year before retirement can hold a lot of questions at once, not just about money but about rhythm, purpose and who you will spend your days with. It can help to give those questions some quiet space before the Lord.

One simple step that often brings clarity is to set aside an unhurried hour this week with a notebook and walk through a few honest questions: who do you hope to be near in this next season, what hopes have you put off that you might now have time for, where do you sense peace about living, when would rest feel timely, and why this longing to step back is surfacing now. Talking through what you write with a spouse, trusted friend or pastor, and if needed a financial counselor, can help you hear God's leading more clearly than holding it alone.

Father, we thank You for Your faithful provision in their life. You see the weariness and the desire for rest. Give clear guidance about this summer, quiet confidence in Your timing, and peace in the decision ahead. Lead each step according to Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your words breathe a spirit of gratitude and holy resignation which is precious in the sight of the Lord. You have thanked Him for His provision, and you have done well, for all our mercies flow from His gracious hand, and you now desire above all things to know and to do His will concerning this last year of labour. This is the right posture for a child of God to take.

You say, I am tired and want to rest and retire, but if it be His will for one more summer job, let it be known to me. Herein you echo that true wisdom which says, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that. It is foolish for a man to say, I will go, I will continue, I will buy, I will sell, I will get gain, as though he could both propose and dispose without asking his Master's consent. But you have said, I will go, or I will stay, if it is the will of God, and in this you have chosen the better way.

There are two rests set before you in Scripture. The first is that present rest which Christ gives to the weary soul when it comes to Him by faith. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. This rest is a gift, given at once to those who trust Him, and it does not depend upon whether your hands are busy or still. He who fully trusts his God becomes perfectly resigned to His Father's will, knowing that the Lord is much too wise to err and much too full of loving kindness to deal harshly with His people, and this resignation itself becomes a source of rest to the spirit. Whether He appoints for you another summer of labour or a season of quiet retirement, you may even now recline upon His promise and find your soul at rest in Him.

There is also that providential will of God which we should always consult, and which comes to us through the circumstances that surround us, through open and closed doors, through the counsel of the Word, through prayer, and through that inward peace which He grants to those who wait upon Him. Seek Him in these ways. Lay your desire for rest before Him, and lay also your willingness to labour one more season if He so appoints, and ask Him to make His way plain. Praying has done this for many a tried saint, it has made him quite willing to do without what he desired if it is God's will, and is not that almost as good as having it.

And there is a seasonable rest to come. For the labourer who has borne the burden and heat of the day, how sweet is rest when it comes in its season. Scripture tells us there remaineth a rest for the people of God, a rest not broken by Monday mornings and worldly toil, but an eternal rest stretched upon the couch of everlasting joy. Whether your rest from earthly labour begins this summer or the next, remember that your best profit will consist of doing God's will, and that what will matter most is not whether your days are cloudy or bright, short or long, but that your eternity is secure in Christ and your present steps are ordered by Him.

We will pray for you, that the Lord who has provided for you hitherto will guide your choices now. May He give you clear direction, whether to take up the summer work or to step into retirement, and may He grant you that perfect resignation which finds rest in Jesus whatever His answer may be. May you be kept from anxious care, and may you hear His voice saying, This is the way, walk ye in it.

May the Lord make His will known to you, and may you be enabled to trust and to rest in Him who doeth all things well. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope and our sure rest, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer shows a grateful heart, and God hears that thankfulness. You have thanked Him for His provision, and you are right to do so, for every good gift comes from His hand.

You speak of being tired and wanting rest, and also of wanting to know His will about one more summer of work. The Lord knows both your weariness and your willingness to serve Him. Jesus said, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. He does not only promise to save, but to place you in security and give rest to your soul. There also remains a true rest for the people of God, a rest that is complete and lasting in His presence. In this life we still labor and face trials, but God uses even that labor to shape us and to show His faithfulness.

Scripture says God is faithful, and He will not let you be tested beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial He will also make the way through it so that you can endure. You can trust Him to make His will clear as you seek Him.

As you come to this decision about retirement and a possible last summer job, bring it to the Lord daily in prayer and in His Word. Ask Him for wisdom, for open and closed doors, and for peace in the direction He leads. Seek wise counsel from those who know you and your situation, consider your health, your needs, and the opportunities before you, and remember that whether you work or rest, you can do all as service to the Lord.

I pray for you now. Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithful provision for this child of Yours through all these years of work. You see this weariness and the desire for rest. Grant clear guidance about this next summer. If it is Your will to provide another season of work, make it plain and open the right door. If it is Your will to grant a season of retirement and rest, give peace and assurance in that path. Give strength for each day, wisdom for each choice, and deeper rest in Christ even now. Lead and provide as only You can, and let Your name be honored in whatever comes next. In the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, Amen.
