Your petition is most timely and scriptural, for the Lord has taught us that the Captain of our salvation was made perfect through sufferings, not that He was ever imperfect in character, for He was ever perfect God and perfect man, but that He was made officially perfect as a Saviour through His sorrows. And so it shall ennoble the whole work of grace in His people. When new believers and those less grounded in the whole counsel of God are tried by birth pangs, by earthquake and war and perplexity, let them remember that it became Him for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to perfect His Son through suffering, and He will in like manner bring His sons unto glory through the same path. Suffering does not mar the Church, it prepares her.

We take comfort with you that our Lord Jesus ever liveth to make intercession for us. He is both the Author and the Sustainer of faith, and faith never lives independent of Him upon whom it relies.
