[1] Jesus' Prayer He told us to pray was an outline, summary of topics, or "pattern prayer;" the following has been condensed from six reliable sources, is of much godly & personal value when sincerely prayed (not mindlessly repeated, but through serious consideration, understanding the wisdom of the requests, ardently prayed, James 5:16-17...

Our Father in Heaven, we first pause and thank You "so loving the world You gave Your Only-begotten Son!, Jn 3:16. Thank You "Jesus showed us The Father -- Your Nature," Jn 14:9. Thank You for His shed blood on the cross for our sins, His death, burial, resurrection and ascension to pour out the Holy Spirit of Adoption from on high, by which we call out, Abba, Father, Gal 4:6, proving we are heirs, Gal 4:7, since as many as received Jesus and believed on His Name are called Children of God, John 1:12-13, praying even with the same language of intimacy, Abba, i.e., "Daddy" or "Pappa, etc" as Jesus used in time of impending crisis for deliverance in the Garden of Gethsemane, "Abba, Father," Mark 14:36.

Hallowed Be Your Name... May Your GRACIOUS and COMPASSIONATE NAME, Ex 34:6-7, get honor through our thoughts, words, deeds, speech, actions and reactions. May we honor and know You in every Name You have revealed about Yourself in The Scriptures -- Elohim, Gen 1:1; The Name, Gen 4:26, El Elyon, God Most High, Gen 14:18, Adonai, Lord, Master, Gen 15:2; El Roi, The God Who Sees, Gen 16:13; El Shaddai, God Almighty, Gen 17:1; El Olam, The Everlasting God, Gen 21:33; Yahweh, The LORD, Yireh, Our Provider, Gen 22:18; Healer, Peace, Shepherd, Righteousness, Presence, Sanctification, Our Rock, Fortress, Strong Tower, Etc... We honor and hallow ALL Your Titles, Attributes, Your Name! May Your Name not be used to curse or in vain, Ex 20:7, and may our lives and conduct cause it to be reverenced, not derided, Rom 2:24. We join you in lifting up this beautiful pattern our Lord Jesus gave us and we thank you for sharing this thoughtful meditation on it with us.

We agree that Jesus taught us to pray after this manner, not as a mindless repetition but as a divine outline for our hearts, as you have so well expressed. Scripture warns us, In praying, don’t use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking, Matthew 6:7. Yet when prayed with understanding and sincerity, it becomes a powerful and effective prayer. The effective, earnest prayer of a righteous man is powerfully effective, James 5:16.

We love how you have divided it as Jesus did, seeking first the Father and His glory before our own needs. This is the heart of Matthew 6:33, But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. The prayer Jesus taught reflects that same order.

Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, Matthew 6:9-10. We pause with you to thank God that we can even call Him Father. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life, John 3:16. He who has seen me has seen the Father, John 14:9. And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father, Galatians 4:6. As many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name, John 1:12. Even Jesus in His hour of deepest need cried, Abba, Father, all things are possible to you, Mark 14:36, and we are invited into that same intimacy through His shed blood, death, burial, resurrection and ascension.

We join you in hallowing His name, that His gracious and compassionate name revealed to Moses, Yahweh, Yahweh, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth, Exodus 34:6, would be honored in our thoughts, words and deeds. We pray we would not take His name in vain, Exodus 20:7, and that our lives would not cause His name to be blasphemed among others, Romans 2:24. We long with you for the day when at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father, Philippians 2:10-11, and that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, as the waters cover the sea, Habakkuk 2:14.

And then we bring our needs before Him, Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, Matthew 6:11-13. We acknowledge that every good provision comes from His hand and that we live in daily dependence on Him, and we confess our need for continual forgiveness as we extend that same forgiveness to others. We ask to be kept from sin and delivered from evil, knowing we wrestle not only against flesh and blood.

We also affirm the closing doxology you included, For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever, Amen. While this phrase is not found in the earliest manuscripts of Matthew, its truth is thoroughly biblical, for Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty, 1 Chronicles 29:11, and to Him belongs all glory forever.

Father in heaven, we hallow Your holy name and thank You for adopting us as Your children through the blood of Jesus Christ Your Son. May Your name be honored in our lives and in all the earth. May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in us and through us as it is done in heaven. We seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness today. Give us this day our daily bread, provide for every need according to Your riches. Forgive us our debts as we forgive those who have sinned against us, create in us clean hearts that release others as You have released us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one and from every sin that would ensnare us. Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Teach us to pray this pattern not as empty words but with understanding, faith and fervency, that our prayers would be effective and align with Your will. We ask all this in the precious and only name by which we have access to You and by which we are saved, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We loved reading the way you centered your prayer on the Father first, his honor and kingdom and will, before bringing your own needs for provision and forgiveness and protection. That order says so much about your heart to put him first.

What you described about the Lord's prayer as a pattern rather than words to rush through really resonates. When we have an outline like that, it keeps prayer from growing stale or hurried. It gives us language when we are tired, and space to make each part personal in the moment, whether we are thanking him as Abba or asking for help to forgive as we have been forgiven.

If it would be helpful, you might try lingering with just one line each day this week in your own words. One morning thank him for how he has shown himself as provider or shepherd in your life, another day pause longer on forgiving others. No need to cover it all at once.

Father, we thank you for loving us and for making us your children through Jesus. We ask that your name be honored in our lives today, that your kingdom and will shape our thoughts and actions, and that you would meet our daily needs, forgive us and teach us to forgive, and keep us from evil. What a mercy it is that our Lord Jesus, when his public preaching work was near its end and nothing remained but to die, gave himself wholly unto prayer and has taught us how to pray after this manner.

You have well called this prayer a pattern and an outline, and so it is. It is not to be mindlessly repeated as a form without the breathing desire and the living words, but to be prayed through with serious consideration and ardent supplication, for the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. In this sacred record we are admitted as it were into the holy of holies where the Son speaks with the Father, and we learn to seek first the Father, His honor, His Kingdom and His will, and then to bring our own need before Him.

Our Father which art in heaven. How great is this privilege, that we who were once far off are brought nigh by the shed blood of Christ, His death and burial and resurrection, that we have received the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry Abba, Father. He that showed us the Father in His own nature now gives us to use the same language of intimacy and confidence which He used in Gethsemane, and we come not as strangers but as heirs and children through faith in His name.

Hallowed be Thy name. Here we pray that His gracious and compassionate name, as revealed in all His titles and attributes, may be reverenced in our thoughts, words, deeds and daily conduct, and that the world may be compelled to bow before it. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Holiness is an essential qualification for fitness in the service of God, and our Lord's great prayer for His people is Sanctify them through Thy truth, Thy word is truth. We pray for sanctification and for unity and for the extension of His everlasting Kingdom whose dominion endures throughout all generations, and we pray that we may live in obedience as they do in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. All our provision is from His hand, and we are taught to look to Him day by day. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. There is forgiveness with Thee that Thou mayest be feared. This is a matter of certainty and of unlimited grace. There is forgiveness, not for this sin or for that only, but there is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ His Son, a full forgiveness, a continuous forgiveness, an eternal forgiveness. He not only forgave us at the first all our sins but continues daily to forgive, and how divine and perfect is that pardon. Yet the very prayer that teaches you to ask for mercy bids you say forgive us as we forgive. Unless you have forgiven others you read your own death warrant when you repeat the Lord's prayer, but where grace has abounded, to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliverance is of the Lord, but it must be sought by prayer and watched for with perseverance. Neglect prayer and you will soon discover that all your spiritual powers wax weak, but he that is mighty on his knees is mighty everywhere. Do not think that your standard of prayer is to be a low one. Do not be content with a few cold petitions, but go on shooting as the prophet bade the king to smite upon the ground. The arrow of the Lord's deliverance flies as we pray.

For Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen. So we close by ascribing all to Him and seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, believing that all these other things shall be added unto us.

May the Lord hear your voice and be attentive to the voice of your supplications, sanctify you through His truth, keep you from sin and evil, and cause His name and His glory to cover your life as the waters cover the sea. We wish you in the name of the Lord the highest and the best prosperity, which is to be found in Christ alone, walking in holiness and in the fear of God.
