Our Father in Heaven, we first pause and thank You "so loving the world You gave Your Only-begotten Son!, Jn 3:16. Thank You "Jesus showed us The Father -- Your Nature," Jn 14:9. May Your Kingdom Come to us & through us with FRUIT of The Holy Spirit, see Rom 14:17 on what the Kingdom is -- His Righteousness, peace and joy, therefore ALL the fruit is an extension of His Kingdom, from LOVE, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, Gal 5:22-23, truth, humility & justice, Ps 45:4, contentment, Lk 3:14, 1 Tim 6:6, Heb 13:5, Phil 4:11-13, doing justly, loving mercy and walking humbly with God, Micah 6:8. You desire mercy, not sacrifice, Hos 6:6. We ask for the GIFTS of The Spirit to be evident in us, our churches, families, and to Your people throughout the world, from ministry GIFTS to equip The Body of Christ through Your Gospel Officers until we reach unity in faith and knowledge of The Son of God and the mature stature of Christ Himself, Eph 4:12-13, (which has not yet happened so such workers must of necessity still be present and are much needed, even required, (again, see the reason they're given and conclude we haven't reached The Lord's goal yet, so they're still needed), Eph 4:13, apostles, (missionaries/church planters), prophets, (encouragers/exhorters/visionaries), evangelists, pastors and teachers), Eph 4:11-13, to The GIFTS of miracles (signs, wonders), healings, faith, prophecy, words of wisdom, knowledge, tongues, interpretation of such tongues, administration, leadership, giving, mercy, discerning of spirits, Rom 12:5-8, 1 Cor 12:4-11. May Your Son return and the Kingdom flourish, being fully manifest. Come quickly Lord Jesus, Rev 22:17, Rev 22:20. Mostly the POWER to live a Holy Life overflowing with LOVE for God and others, singing and making melody from "singing seminaries" and "the walking practice of evangelism" is the best fruit and sign of the Kingdom, Heb 12:4. ***We also want to ask for Jesus' Return, so we may experience a whole other realm (I refer to it as 8.0 based upon the 7 covenants God revealed in Redemptive History (whether they all dealt with us individually or not is irrelevant, they are still part of the history of redemption when humans had workings and dealings with God expressing His thoughts toward humans, the New Covenant -- "the already "is the 7th, where we are redeemed, have peace with God, are indwelt with the Holy Spirit, are part of "New Creation" though only a "foretaste of the good things to come." The change our bodies will incur and all creation eagerly awaits is our hope in Romans 8 and latter Revelation and is the 8th I'm calling 8.0 where ALL of these things will be realized in a greater capacity and duration and God's Kingdom will have full expression once it's fully come on earth as it is heaven again -- the "not yet," -- "May Your Kingdom Come and Your Will be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven," Matt 6:10.

May Your Will Be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven -- Keeping in mind the Kingdom Coming, as described above, in differing degrees, the already and the not yet, we ask here in the already that we may know, submit to and do Your will for our lives individually and collectively as the church, as Jesus did during His time on earth, Phil 2:9-9, our whole lives be increasingly lived to please You, knowing the Trinity, living in Your presence moment by moment, and making You known as a by product, rejoicing in trials and weakness, as well as power demonstrations when it gives You glory, Mt 28:19-20, Rom 1:5, Rom 15:18. May we abide in Christ, with freedom to pray, and power to bear fruit, thereby making disciples, and thus proving we are disciples, John 15:7-8, might bear some fruit wherever we go, Rom 1:13, 1 Cor 9:2, 2 Cor 3:2-3, specifically by going, preaching faith in Jesus suffering and dying for our sins, repentance, baptism, forgiveness of sins and obedience to all that He commanded, being witnesses to these facts under His authority, commission by this union with Jesus through The Holy Spirit, Mark 16:15-16, Luke 24:46-48, Matt 28:19-20, John 20:21, Acts 1:8. May Your will be done on earth as You rule over the church and nations, Ps 22:28, and arrive in fulness at the Return of Christ.

Give us Each Day our Daily Bread: Spiritual -- we can't live by bread alone but every Word of God, Deut 8:3, Matt 4:4, Lk 4:4. Meet our spiritual, emotional, social, physical and financial needs mightily, Phil 4:19, so we can love You with all our heart, soul, mind, will, emotions, physical strength and finances, Mk 12:30, and our neighbors, Mk 12:31, even the lost, Matt 9:36, and even enemies, Matt 5:44, as ourselves -- and see others as Christ, who looked beyond his own interests, to the interests of others, considering others as more important than we, Phil 2:1-5.

Forgive Our Debts as We Forgive Our Debtors... We confess we've sinned against You, Rom 3:23, 1 Jn 1:8, 1 Jn 1:10 (name specific sins and areas of ongoing struggles), and others, receive forgiveness, Lk 1:77, & pray FOR those who sin against us, (by name and specific offenses), asking they'd repent and be saved, Job 42:7-16, entrusting their souls to a faithful creator and recognizing it is He who alone who is in fact the one appointed both to save and to judge, Romans 12:9, 1 Pet 4:19.

Lead us Not into Temptation, but Deliver us from evil... Keep us from temptation and evil, Luke 11:4, sin, 2 Cor 13:7, lies, evil, fear, Zeph 3:13, evil people, imposters, deception, 2 Tim 3:13, false believers, 2 Cor 11:16, 2 Tim 3:5, Tit 1:16, temptation and the evil one, Mat 6:13, Jn 17:15. Give us angelic protection, Ps 91:10-11, Heb 1:14.

For It's Your Kingdom, (Everlasting Kingdom which Cannot Be Destroyed, Dan 7:18), It's Your Power, (All Power in Heaven and Earth has been Given to Me, Matt 28:18), and Your Glory, Forever... (Not unto us O Lord, but unto Your Name Be Glory, Ps 115:1)... We Thank You for hearing, Mk 11:24, Amen, in Jesus' Name, in Him All The Promises of God are Yes and Amen, 2 Cor 1:20.

We come together in unity, lifting our voices to our Heavenly Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your Word teaches us the manner in which we ought to pray, and we embrace this pattern with hearts full of reverence and devotion. As we seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, we are reminded that all these things shall be added unto us (Matthew 6:33). Let us now pray this prayer with sincerity, understanding, and a deep desire to align our lives with Your perfect will.

Our Father in heaven, we pause to thank You for Your boundless love, demonstrated through the gift of Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, who came to save us from our sins (John 3:16). We are grateful for the revelation of Your nature through Him, for He has shown us the Father (John 14:9). Thank You for His sacrificial death on the cross, His burial, resurrection, and ascension, through which the Holy Spirit was poured out upon us, adopting us as Your children (Galatians 4:6-7). By this Spirit, we cry out "Abba, Father," affirming our place as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:15-17). We rejoice in the intimacy we share with You, calling You "Daddy" or "Papa," just as Jesus did in His hour of need (Mark 14:36).

Hallowed be Your name. May Your gracious and compassionate name (Exodus 34:6-7) be honored in every aspect of our lives, our thoughts, words, deeds, speech, actions, and reactions. We desire to know You more deeply through every name You have revealed in Scripture: Elohim, our Creator (Genesis 1:1); Yahweh, the LORD, our Provider, Healer, Peace, Shepherd, Righteousness, and Sanctifier (Genesis 22:14; Exodus 15:26; Judges 6:24; Psalm 23:1; Jeremiah 23:6; 1 Corinthians 1:30); El Shaddai, God Almighty (Genesis 17:1); and so many more. Let our lives reflect the reverence due Your holy name, that the world may see Your glory and turn to You (Romans 2:24). May Your name be exalted above all names, and may Your glory fill the earth as the waters cover the sea (Numbers 14:21; Habakkuk 2:14).

Your Kingdom come. We long for the full manifestation of Your Kingdom, both in our lives and throughout the world. Your Kingdom is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17), and we pray that the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, would abound in us (Galatians 5:22-23). Grant us the gifts of the Spirit to edify the Body of Christ and advance Your Gospel (1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 4:11-13). Empower us to drive out demons by the finger of God, demonstrating the reality of Your Kingdom (Luke 11:20). May we live holy lives, overflowing with love for You and others, making disciples of all nations as we go (Matthew 28:19-20). Come quickly, Lord Jesus, that Your Kingdom may be fully established on earth as it is in heaven (Revelation 22:20).

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We surrender our lives to Your perfect will, desiring to know, submit to, and do what pleases You (Philippians 2:5-8). May we abide in Christ, bearing much fruit as His disciples (John 15:7-8), and making known the good news of salvation through faith in His death and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Let Your will be done in our families, churches, and nations, as You rule and reign over all (Psalm 22:28). We await the day when Your will shall be fully realized at the return of Christ, when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).

Give us this day our daily bread. We acknowledge that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from Your mouth (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4). Provide for our spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and financial needs, that we may love You with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31). Help us to look beyond our own interests to the interests of others, considering them as more important than ourselves (Philippians 2:3-4). May we see others through the eyes of Christ, who came not to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45).

Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. We confess our sins before You, for all have sinned and fall short of Your glory (Romans 3:23). We ask for Your forgiveness, knowing that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We also forgive those who have sinned against us, praying for their repentance and salvation (Matthew 6:14-15). Help us to entrust their souls to You, the righteous Judge, and to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:19-21).

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Protect us from the schemes of the evil one and keep us from falling into sin (Matthew 6:13; 1 Corinthians 10:13). Guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, that we may stand firm against the temptations and deceptions of this world (Ephesians 6:10-18). Send Your holy angels to encamp around us, delivering us from all harm (Psalm 91:10-11).

For Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. We acknowledge that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to You (Matthew 28:18). Not to us, O Lord, but to Your name be the glory (Psalm 115:1). We thank You for hearing our prayers, for we ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, in whom all Your promises are "Yes" and "Amen" (2 Corinthians 1:20). Amen.

Let us hold fast to the truth that prayer is not merely a ritual, but a powerful means of communion with our Heavenly Father. Through prayer, we align our hearts with His will, seek His provision, and invite His Kingdom to come in power. We are called to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), trusting that our Father hears us and delights in giving good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11). May we continue to seek Him first, knowing that He will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).

We also remind ourselves and all who read this that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). Turn to Him today, and experience the forgiveness, peace, and eternal life that only He can give.

We were encouraged to see how you put the Father first in your prayer, honoring His name and His kingdom and His will before bringing your own needs for provision, forgiveness and protection. That order itself is a steady anchor when so much else pulls for attention.

What you described as a pattern rather than words to rush through is a helpful way to think about it. It gives language when we do not know what to say, and also keeps prayer from becoming just repetition. It becomes a conversation where we rest in God and bring our real dependence to Him, not a technique to get right.

One simple way we have found helpful to keep it fresh is to linger on just one phrase at a time in your own words. One morning you might stay with hallowing His name and what that looks like in your thoughts and words that day, the next morning on daily bread and what you truly need for today, another day on forgiving as you have been forgiven. Going slowly like that often keeps the heart engaged more than trying to cover it all at once.

We are praying with you and for you in this.

Father, thank You that we can call You Father through Jesus. We ask that Your name be honored in our lives today, that Your kingdom and Your will would shape our thoughts and choices, and that You would provide what we need, forgive us and teach us to forgive, and keep us from evil. There is a blessed order in the prayer our Lord taught His disciples, and you have rightly observed it. It begins where all true prayer must commence, with the spirit of adoption, saying Our Father who is in heaven. It is not the repetition of a form with the lips, but the pouring out of the heart of a child who has received the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry Abba Father, through Him who shed His blood and rose again to bring us near.

You have divided the prayer as a ladder, and so it is. First we seek the Father and His honor, Hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This is sanctification in its highest form, that His name should be reverenced in our thoughts and words and deeds, that His Kingdom should come in righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost, with love and joy and peace and all the fruit of the Spirit, and that His will should be done cheerfully by us as it is done by angels above. The whole scheme of salvation hinges upon the absolute will of God, and from the first moment of human history even to the last His will shall be done. Yet He teaches us to pray that His will may be done in us, for the work of the Spirit is to change the human will and make men willing in the day of His power, so that the neck once stiff as iron bows gladly to wear His yoke.

Then follows our need, Give us this day our daily bread. If you are a child of God and you care for Him, He will care for you. He will measure out your food and your provision according to your need. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. So let your prayer be for daily grace, for the Word which alone can sustain the soul, and for all things needful for body and spirit to enable you to love the Lord with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself.

And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. There is forgiveness with Him, that He may be feared. If you get forgiveness from God you have the first link in an endless chain of mercies. You shall become His child, His beloved, and He will teach you and keep you and sanctify you and in due time bring you to heaven. Make a clean breast of it before God in the humblest and most honest language you can use, and you shall receive His full and free forgiveness, and that same forgiveness will teach you to pray for those who have sinned against you.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. This is the prayer of watchfulness. It is sanctification in its negative and positive forms. The burnt child dreads the fire, and the soul that has known the misery of falling prays thus, Keep me from so dire an evil. Lead me where Thou wilt, even through death's dark valley, but let me not dishonor Thee. Remember to pray this prayer daily, for it is the remedy against the wiles of Satan and the weakness of the flesh, and He is able to keep you from falling.

For Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. All things work together for good to them that love God, for God ruleth and overruleth and reigneth in all events, from seeming evil still producing good. Therefore we close with praise, for the Kingdom is everlasting and cannot be destroyed, and all power in heaven and earth belongs to Christ.

May the Lord hear this pattern prayer as you offer it not mindlessly but with understanding and ardent faith, and may He conform your heart more and more to His will, supply your daily need, keep you in perfect forgiveness and charity, and guard you from temptation till He brings you where you shall see His face and be with Him forever. Your thoughtful reflection on the prayer the Lord taught us has been received with gladness, and I thank God for the care you have taken to understand it not as empty repetition but as a pattern for the heart.

It is right that you begin where our Lord began, with the Father. To be able to say Our Father is itself a gift of grace. The uninitiated could not speak this word, but those who have received Christ and believed on His name have been given adoption through His blood, His death and resurrection, and the pouring out of the Holy Spirit by which we cry Abba, Father. How deep are the riches of His wisdom and knowledge, that He who was at enmity and in darkness should be counted worthy of forgiveness, of the Spirit, of sonship and the kingdom. Therefore let every prayer be accompanied with thanksgiving, as you have done, remembering the cross and giving thanks for so great a deliverance.

You rightly pray Hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done. This is to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, as the Lord commands. The Kingdom is righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, and its fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, with truth and humility and justice. Pray for this fruit to be formed in you and through you, and for power to live a holy life overflowing with love for God and for others. And as you pray for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, remember that Christ Himself showed us what perfect obedience is, and that we are called to abide in Him, to bear fruit and to make disciples, trusting that He hears us always and that His will and the Father's will are one.

When you pray Give us this day our daily bread, you ask well for both spiritual and bodily provision. We cannot live by bread alone but by every word that comes from God, and He has promised to supply what we need so that we may love Him with all our heart and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves. Take care here to ask for what is needful for health and for service, and not to make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. The present life is like a sleep full of dreams, and many are weighed down by desire for more than is needful, for excess in food and drink and dress and soft living. Prune away those things, and spend your strength rather on the care of spiritual things, content with what God provides day by day.

You pray Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and this is the heart of the prayer for believers. Even after the washing of baptism, the Lord still teaches us to bring our sins to remembrance and to ask forgiveness, showing that repentance remains profitable. See His surpassing mercy. The servant asked only for time to pay, but the Master moved with compassion forgave the entire debt, giving more than was asked. So God forgives us wholly when we come with a humble heart. Yet He has joined to this promise a condition for us, that we also forgive those who have sinned against us. Do not let any bitter word or curse proceed from the mouth that has been counted worthy to partake of holy things. If we forgive not, we shall not be forgiven, and prayer offered with a polluted mouth by cursing others cannot be heard. Name your own sins honestly before God, receive His forgiveness, and then by name pray for those who have wronged you, that they may repent and be saved, leaving judgment to Him who alone is appointed to save and to judge.

And you pray Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. This is a great weapon for the daily warfare. Every day is a fight and a storm, with many rocks on which the boat may strike. We need arms, and prayer is a great weapon. We need favorable winds, and we find them when we first make God propitious by prayer and supplication. Therefore keep this prayer early in the morning and again at night, and through the day. Ask for protection from sin and lies and deception, from evil people and from the evil one, and for the guard of angels. Know that you will need much penitence, much prayer, much endurance and much perseverance to stand and to attain the good things promised.

Finally you close as the Lord directs, For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. All power in heaven and on earth has been given to Christ, and His is the everlasting Kingdom which cannot be destroyed. Not unto us, but unto His name be glory. Your desire to seek the Father first and to pray as Jesus taught is deeply encouraging and entirely biblical. What Jesus gave in Matthew 6:9-13 is not a set of words to repeat without thought, but a pattern to guide us. There is little value in simply reciting it from memory. There is great value when you take it slowly, phrase by phrase, and meditate on what each request means, praying it with understanding and with a sincere heart.

The order Jesus gave is important and it matches Matthew 6:33, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. The first three requests are about God, not about us. Hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In true prayer the primary thrust is not to get my will done, but to get God's will done. Prayer is not mainly informing God of what we need, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. Prayer is opening the door for His purpose and His will to be accomplished on earth, beginning in our own lives. When we pray hallowed be Your name we are asking that His gracious and compassionate character revealed in Scripture would be honored in our thoughts, words and actions, and that His name would be reverenced in the world and not dishonored. When we pray Your kingdom come we are asking for His reign of righteousness, peace and joy to be evident in us and through us, bearing the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness and all that reflects His nature, and we are also looking forward with hope to the day when Christ will come and establish His kingdom fully. That is why the last prayer of the Bible is even so, come, Lord Jesus. When we pray Your will be done we are asking to know, to submit to, and to do His will, to abide in Christ, to bear fruit, and to walk in obedience as His witnesses.

Only after those Godward requests does Jesus turn to our personal needs, and those needs can be summed up as provision, forgiveness, and guidance with deliverance. Give us this day our daily bread is a request for all that we need, spiritual as well as physical. We do not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from God, and we can trust Him to meet our needs so that we can love Him and love our neighbor. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors reminds us that our forgiveness is tied to our willingness to forgive others. This is the one petition Jesus pauses to emphasize again after the prayer. We come confessing our sins, naming them honestly before Him, receiving His forgiveness through the shed blood of Jesus, and we also choose to forgive and to pray for those who have sinned against us, entrusting judgment to God who alone saves and judges. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil is a prayer for guidance and protection, that He would keep us from sin and lies and deception, from the schemes of the evil one, and guard us in His care.

Prayer in this pattern also teaches us that prayer is worship. It begins with relationship. Unless He is your Father through faith in Jesus Christ, through His death and resurrection and the gift of adoption by the Holy Spirit by which we cry Abba, Father, prayer has no foundation. But to those who have received Him and believed on His name, He has given the right to become children of God, and we can come with the same intimacy Jesus knew. Prayer is also intercession for others and petition for our own needs, but it should always return to worship. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. A prayer of faith can end with praise, with quiet confidence that God has heard and will act according to His perfect will.

There are two kingdoms at work in this world, the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. Through Christ we have been delivered from the power of darkness and brought into the kingdom of God's Son, and our calling is to carry that message of deliverance to others so they too may come out of darkness into fellowship with God. As you continue to pray this pattern, do not pray in a hurried or careless way. The fervent, heartfelt prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Bring each phrase before the Lord thoughtfully, worship Him first, ask for His kingdom and will, then bring your daily needs, your need for forgiveness and your need for guidance and protection, and close by giving Him the glory, trusting that all His promises are yes in Christ.
