Son

Your prayer shows both deep love for your son and real exhaustion, and God hears that cry when you feel you cannot go on anymore. It is hard when every word seems to provoke anger and when screens and late nights have taken hold and nothing you try seems to work.

Scripture reminds us that the Lord who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, and He keeps watch over you and over your son even in these long nights. At the same time we are called to guard ourselves and to stay awake and sober in our souls. To be in the day, as one homily says, depends on ourselves. It is in our power to watch and to be sober, not to let our eyes close to what is good. Sleep itself is a gift from God, but when it becomes disordered or when waking hours are given over to endless images and noise, it is like a drunkenness of the soul. Every excess can cloud the mind as wine does, making a person see things as in a dream and become inactive toward what is truly good. A life ordered by God, by contrast, brings a more peaceful sleep, a sleep that is composed and regular, because the heart is not weighed down and the soul is at rest.

Do not sink under this affliction, even though you have been worn down. Like those who sang praises at midnight in prison, you can still lift your voice to God in the night watches, and He will give you strength for the next step. Your son also needs that steady, loving watchfulness. Obedience is learned not in a moment but through patient, consistent love that reflects the obedience we ourselves owe to the Lord. It is not about harsh words that stir up more anger, but about calm, clear boundaries set with fear of God and love for your child, remembering that the power to stand firm depends in part on our own choice to remain steadfast and unmovable.

Pray that God would help you to set those boundaries with gentleness and firmness together, to limit screens and to keep a regular rhythm of rest, not as a punishment but as care for his body and soul. Ask Him to soften your son's heart so that correction does not feel like an attack, and to give you wisdom for when to speak and when to be silent. Keep your own heart guarded in prayer, bring your weariness to Christ each evening, and trust that He is working even when you see no change yet.

Let us pray. Lord Jesus Christ, You see this weary parent and this beloved son. Have mercy and grant rest that is peaceful and ordered. Help this son to turn from what keeps him awake and distracted, to love what is true and good, and to receive guidance with a willing heart. Give this parent patience, wisdom, and strength to persevere, to set loving limits without provoking anger, and to rest in Your keeping care through every night. Lead this home into watchfulness and sobriety and peace, for Your glory. Amen.

Your honesty before the Lord is precious and He hears the weariness in your prayer. Feeling at the end of your strength as a parent, especially when every word seems to upset your son and nothing you try with sleep and screens seems to work, is a heavy burden. God sees both your love for your son and your exhaustion, and He invites you to keep bringing that burden to Him.

Scripture speaks of training a child as a steady, intentional work, like catechizing or patiently teaching step by step. It is not a one time talk but a consistent pattern of guidance. The well known verse says to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. That reminds us to ask what the goal of the training is. If the goal is only outward success or just keeping peace in the moment, we can miss the deeper aim, which is to lead him in the Lord's way, toward knowing and walking with Jesus.

That same wisdom teaches that there is a difference in each child. The phrase according to his way points to recognizing his unique personality and needs. Like teaching a child to walk, you expect stumbles and falls. You do your best to keep him from falling, but you also stay close, patiently helping him up and guiding his steps again. Your son's sensitivity when you speak to him, his struggle with sleep and screens, may be part of his particular makeup that calls for patient, steady shepherding rather than giving up.

It is understandable to want to avoid conflict and to fear that correction will break the bond between you. Yet Scripture warns that leaving a child to himself without loving boundaries does not create closeness. It says foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, and loving instruction helps drive it away. One king in the Bible never said anything to displease his son, and that son grew to resent and rebel against his father. His brother later wrote much about how a child left without guidance brings sorrow, while consistent, loving discipline is an act of love that protects.

Jesus Himself placed a little child in the midst of His disciples and taught that we must become humble like a child to enter the kingdom, and that to receive one such little child in His name is to receive Him. He said to take heed that we do not despise one of these little ones. That is a word for tired parents too. In moments of frustration it is easy to move from being tired of the behavior to feeling resentment toward the child. God calls you to see your son as entrusted to you, a blessed privilege to nurture, and to guard his faith and heart rather than to tear it down, even unintentionally through anger or despair.

In practical terms, love will still set clear and kind boundaries. Screens and late nights affect a child's body, mind and spirit, and he needs your calm, consistent leadership to help him steward them well. That will likely mean simple, predictable limits for bedtime and screen time, explained briefly and held steadily, with natural consequences carried out in gentleness, not in harshness. Expect that he will test the boundary and get upset at first. Your steady calm, not entering a power struggle but remaining kind and firm, teaches him security over time. Pray with him, not only in memorized words but in simple, honest heart prayers, and encourage him to talk to God in his own words too.

Keep praying as one mother in Scripture did who longed for a child and poured out her heart before the Lord. God heard and answered in His timing and for His purpose. He hears you now. You do not have to fix everything tonight. Walk one faithful step at a time, asking God for wisdom, strength and a soft heart for both of you.

May the Lord give you renewed strength and peace as you keep guiding your son. May He give your son a willing heart to receive instruction, a love for what is good, and the grace to rest well and to use his time wisely. May He guard your relationship and draw you both closer to Jesus, who loves children deeply and who gives wisdom to parents who ask. Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer.

We have continued to lift up your son before the Lord and to bring your burden to Him. We have prayed that the Lord would help your son to let go of staying up so late and to find healthy rest and balance away from too many screens. We have also prayed for healing of the tension in your home where nothing you have tried seems to work and where even one word causes him to get very upset. We know how weary and overwhelmed you feel when you say you cannot do this anymore, and we have asked God to give you renewed strength and wisdom and peace as you love and guide your son. We pray that God would soften his heart to hear you, bring calm to his spirit, and restore peace to your household. We are clinging to the promise in Isa 40:29 that He gives strength to the weary and to the truth in Psalm 4:8 that He alone makes us dwell in safety and sleep in peace.

If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We want to keep standing with you and seeking the Lord together for your son.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name, Amen.
