Beloved of All
Jesus please let my son stop staying up so late. Nothing works and I cannot say one thing to him or he gets very upset. I can't do this anymore. Not to mention him being on too many screens. Nothing works though. Please let him stop this. Thank you Jesus, Amen.

We hear the weariness and burden in your heart and we join you in bringing your son before the Lord together in Jesus name. It is good that you have called on Jesus, for it is through Him we have access to the Father and it is in His name we find help and hope.

We understand how exhausting it is when a child stays up late, is consumed by screens, and responds with anger when corrected. We want to encourage you not to lose heart. God sees your faithfulness and your love for your son, and He will give you strength for this season. Galatians 6:9 says, Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we do not give up. And Isaiah 40:29 says, He gives power to the faint. To him who has no might he increases strength.

Scripture reminds us that sleep is a gift from God and that our bodies need rest. Psalm 127:2 says, It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, to eat the bread of sorrows, for he gives sleep to his loved ones. When nights are spent on screens, it can steal that gift and also open the door to things that do not edify. 1 Corinthians 6:12 says, All things are lawful for me, but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of anything. We pray your son will not be brought under the power of screens or late night habits, but will learn self control which is fruit of the Spirit.

Scripture also calls children to obedience and parents to loving, consistent discipline. Ephesians 6:1 says, Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Ephesians 6:4 says, You fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Proverbs 22:6 says, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. This training requires both love and boundaries. It is loving to set clear limits, even when he gets upset, because boundaries protect his health, his heart, and his walk with the Lord. Getting very upset when corrected is not honoring to you and we pray the Lord will soften his heart to receive correction with humility.

We encourage you to seek wisdom from the Lord for how to establish a consistent and peaceful rhythm in your home. James 1:5 says, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. Practically, this may mean lovingly removing screens at a set time each evening, keeping devices out of the bedroom at night, establishing a calm bedtime routine that includes prayer and the Word, and remaining calm and consistent when he tests the boundary. Do this not in anger, but with steady love, explaining that you set these limits because you love him and want what is best for him.

We lift you both up in prayer now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus and we thank You for this mother or father who loves their son deeply and is weary. We ask You to renew their strength and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Grant them wisdom, patience, and courage to lead their home with grace and truth. Lord, we lift this son to You. Touch his heart, help him to honor his parent and to obey with a willing spirit. Break any hold that screens and late nights have on him. Give him a desire for rest, for health, and for time with You. Help him to steward his time well and to turn his eyes to what is pure and profitable. Bring peace into this home, calm the anger, and let nights be filled with rest and mornings with renewed joy. We pray he will grow in discipline and in love for You. We trust You to work in both their hearts according to Your perfect will. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Be encouraged that God is with you in this and He is faithful to equip you as you nurture your son in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Philippians 4:6 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Keep bringing this to Him, remain consistent in love, and trust Him to bring change in His timing.

We hear how exhausted you are, and how heavy it feels when nothing you try seems to make a difference and even a small word leads to an upset. Loving a son through late nights and constant screens while you are running on empty is a lot to carry, and it makes sense you would feel at the end of yourself.

When everything feels like a battle, it can help to narrow the focus to one small, steady line you can hold calmly rather than trying to fix it all at once. Think of a boundary like a property line, it helps each person know what is theirs to care for and it actually protects connection instead of breaking it. That might look like choosing one consistent limit around screens or bedtime, saying it briefly and kindly, and then not debating it in the heated moment. It is also much more sustainable when you are not holding it alone, so consider inviting one trusted person to stand with you, a spouse, family member, pastor or counselor who knows your family.

If the late nights continue, it can be wise to talk with his doctor or school counselor alongside prayer, just to get a clearer picture of his sleep habits and what support might help.

Father, we lift this tired parent to You and ask for rest and renewed strength. Give wisdom for the next conversation, bring more peace and understanding between parent and son, and lead them to the right help and support. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your prayer has been heard and your weariness is not hidden from the Lord, for He sees the burden you carry in these sleepless nights and trying days.

To love a child and yet feel unable to guide him is a sore trial. When every word seems to provoke anger and every boundary is resisted, the heart grows faint. You are not alone in this, and you have done well to bring it to Jesus, for apart from Him we can do nothing, and with Him nothing that is needful shall be denied.

Scripture teaches that children, like all of us, are born with a heart inclined to its own way, and that to train up a child in the way he should go requires both tenderness and firmness. The Lord does not call you to control your son by mere force of will, which indeed never works, but to shepherd him with patient, consistent love. Our heavenly Father is gracious and yet He gives commands for our good, and so a parent must lovingly set the bounds that God has given for our health and holiness. Sleep is His gift, as the Psalmist says, for He gives to His beloved sleep, and the body and mind He has given us are to be stewarded, not spent wastefully on endless screens that stir the mind and steal rest.

I would urge you, dear soul, to seek grace for two things. First, for your own soul, that you may be renewed in strength and not be overcome by despair. Cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you, and remember that your faithful prayers, even when you feel you cannot do this anymore, are precious in His sight. Second, for wisdom to lead your son with calm consistency rather than with contention. In a quiet moment, when there is no conflict, speak to him not in the heat of correction but in love, establishing a clear and simple rule for the household concerning the hour of rest and the use of screens, and holding to it with gentle firmness. Let prayer be mingled with it. Invite him to pray with you at night, to thank God for the day and to ask for rest. Let him see in you the peace of one who rests in Christ. And do not bear this alone, seek the help of your church family, that others may pray with you and support you.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, Thou knowest this weary parent and this beloved son. Thou seest the late nights, the strain, and the tears that have been poured out before Thee. Have mercy and grant help in this time of need. Give to this parent renewed strength, patience, and wisdom from above, that they may lead not with harshness nor with fear, but with love that is steady and true. Soften the heart of this son, Lord, and make it tender toward Thee and toward his parent. Help him to turn from stubbornness and to receive instruction with a willing spirit. Guard his mind and body, deliver him from that which steals his sleep and dulls his soul, and teach him to delight in Thy ways. Let this home know Thy peace, and let both parent and child learn to rest in Christ, who alone gives true rest to the weary. We ask this in the name of Jesus our Savior, Amen.

Take courage and continue to look to Him. He who has begun a good work will be faithful to complete it, and He hears the cry of a parent's heart.
