You bring your son before the Lord, asking wisdom and favor as he passes through this present process. That is a prayer well-pleasing to the Father, for He giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not. The wisdom that cometh from above is the prize you seek, and it is yours if by faith you claim it. Man’s own wisdom is but folly; without the wisdom of God he runneth wildly, as the wild ass’s colt, wasting his strength. But the Lord saith, I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go. Let your son learn to trust in the Lord with all his heart, and then shall his path be the way of wisdom.
And you have asked for peace and comfort. What a sweet sound is that word peace! Christ our Lord hath left us a legacy: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. It is not the false peace which the world cries, Peace, peace, where there is no peace, but a peace that passeth all understanding, that keepeth the heart and mind through Christ Jesus. If your son is in Christ, he hath peace with God, the fountain; and the stream of peace in the conscience will flow, even amidst thronging duties. To do the will of Jesus, this is rest. Bear every care with Him, and then, though sorrows surge, you shall find perfect peace.
You pray also for favor. Oh, how the Lord delighteth to show favor to the objects of His choice! When He looketh upon His dear Son, He feeleth an infinite satisfaction, and for that dear Son’s sake He poureth out favor upon us. He hath mapped out for each of His children a special mercy suited to their peculiar need. This matter before your son is exactly that peculiar case, and the Lord will grant him favor as he walketh humbly with his God. Since the eternal God, Himself, leads the van, march where He clears the course and your son’s path shall be one of happiness and peace.
And let me drop a word upon your own heart, dear praying parent. I have known some who, for a disliked marriage or some other cause, have shut the door upon a son or daughter, saying, She shall never darken my door again. And you are a Christian? God forbid that any bitterness should dwell in you. Let love cover all, even as Christ hath loved you.
Now, rest in this: He that hath begun a good work in your son will perform it. He will load him with benefits and delight to do it, if you trust His dear Son. The Lord bless you and your son with that perfect peace, for His name’s sake. Amen.
