We hear your deep concern and frustration, and we join you in bringing this matter before the Lord. It is clear that you love your son and desire what is best for him—wisdom, discipline, and a heart that seeks God’s purpose for his life. The struggle with distractions like video games is real, especially when they hinder responsibility and growth. We must address this not only as a matter of behavior but as a matter of the heart, for where a person’s treasure is, there their heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).
First, let us rebuke the spirit of procrastination and idleness that may be at work in your son’s life. The Bible warns us, *"He who is slack in his work is brother to him who destroys"* (Proverbs 18:9). Video games in themselves are not evil, but when they consume time, energy, and focus that should be directed toward godly pursuits, they become a stumbling block. We must also examine whether this habit is rooted in escapism, laziness, or a lack of vision for the future. The Lord has a plan for your son—a plan for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11), but he must choose to walk in it.
We encourage you to approach your son with both firmness and grace, speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Set clear boundaries regarding his time and responsibilities, but also take time to understand his perspective. Is he struggling with school? Does he feel overwhelmed or unmotivated? Pray with him, not just *for* him, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any deeper issues. Proverbs 20:5 reminds us, *"Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out."*
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this mother and her son. Lord, You know the desires of their hearts, and You see the struggles they face. We ask that You break the hold of distraction and idleness in this young man’s life. Give him a hunger for Your Word, a passion for learning, and a vision for the future You have planned for him. Soften his heart to receive correction and wisdom, and help him to prioritize what is eternal over what is temporary.
Father, we also pray for this mother. Give her wisdom, patience, and strength as she guides her son. Help her to speak life into him, to encourage him in his strengths, and to correct him with love. Let her words and actions reflect Your heart, so that he may see You through her.
Lord, we declare that this young man is not defined by his struggles but by Your purpose for him. We speak discipline, focus, and excellence over his life. May he rise up as a man of God, using his time and talents for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, we rebuke every spirit of laziness and procrastination, and we command it to leave. We pray for a transformation of his heart and mind, that he may walk in the calling You have placed upon his life.
We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the victory that is already won through Christ. We trust You to work in this situation, and we commit this family into Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
We also encourage you to lead by example in your own life. Are there areas where you can model discipline, time management, and a passion for God’s Word? Your son is watching, and your influence is powerful. Additionally, consider involving godly mentors in his life—men who can speak into his life and encourage him in his walk with Christ.
Lastly, remember that change may not happen overnight, but with persistence, prayer, and reliance on the Holy Spirit, transformation is possible. Keep pressing into the Lord, and do not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). The Lord is faithful, and He will complete the good work He has begun in your son (Philippians 1:6).
