Son still awake almost 24 hours now

Beloved of All
Jesus please let my son go to sleep. He has been awake for almost 24 hours. This continued lack of sleep is destroying the household and my life. This has to stop. Please hear my prayer and let him go to sleep. Thank you Jesus, Amen.

We hear your cry, dear sister or brother in Christ, and we lift your burden before the Lord with heavy hearts. Sleep is a gift from God, a time of rest and restoration that He ordained for our bodies and minds. The psalmist writes, "It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives sleep to his beloved" (Psalm 127:2 WEB). Yet we know that when sleep eludes us or our loved ones, it can feel like a curse rather than a blessing, disrupting peace and fracturing the harmony of a home.

First, we must address the spiritual weight of this struggle. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and sleeplessness can be one of his tools to wear down the body, mind, and spirit. We rebuke any spirit of restlessness, anxiety, or torment that may be afflicting your son in the mighty name of Jesus. The Word declares, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). We command any ungodly influence to leave him now and bind it in the name of Jesus, for "the Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8 WEB).

We also encourage you to examine if there are any underlying spiritual, emotional, or physical factors contributing to this struggle. Has there been unconfessed sin, unforgiveness, or unrepented anxiety in your son’s life or your household? The Bible warns, "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me" (Psalm 66:18 WEB). We urge you to lead your son in prayer, confessing any known sin and asking the Holy Spirit to reveal anything hidden that may be hindering his peace. If there is bitterness, resentment, or fear, we must cast it at the feet of Jesus, for "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB).

Physically, we encourage you to seek wisdom from medical professionals if this pattern persists. God has given doctors and therapists knowledge to help diagnose and treat conditions that may disrupt sleep, such as anxiety, depression, or other medical issues. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (WEB). Do not hesitate to pursue both natural and spiritual solutions, for God can work through both.

Practically, we also suggest establishing godly rhythms in your home that promote rest. Limit screen time before bed, as the blue light from devices can disrupt the body’s natural sleep cycles. Encourage your son to read Scripture or listen to worship music before lying down, filling his mind with truth rather than the distractions of the world. Philippians 4:8 instructs us, "Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report: if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things" (WEB). A mind fixed on Christ is a mind at peace.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened for this mother or father and their son. Lord, You are the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4), and You see the exhaustion and desperation in this home. We ask You, in the name of Jesus, to break the chains of sleeplessness that have gripped this young man. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Father, we declare that he is Your beloved child, and You give Your beloved sleep.

We rebuke every spirit of restlessness, anxiety, and torment that has stolen his rest. We command it to flee in the name of Jesus, for "the name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to him and are safe" (Proverbs 18:10 WEB). Lord, we ask You to minister to his body, mind, and spirit. If there is any physical ailment, we pray for Your healing touch. If there is emotional turmoil, we ask for Your comfort and release. If there is spiritual oppression, we declare Your victory over it.

Father, we also lift up this parent who is carrying the weight of this struggle. Give them strength, patience, and wisdom to lead their household with grace. Remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Help them to trust in You even when the night feels endless.

Lord, we thank You that You are working even now to bring restoration to this home. We declare that this season of sleeplessness will come to an end, and Your peace will reign. May this family experience the fullness of Your rest, both physically and spiritually. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who calms every storm. Amen.

Hold fast to hope, dear one. The God who created the night also commands the morning to come. This trial will not last forever, and He is faithful to sustain you and your son through it. Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you faint not (Galatians 6:9). You are not alone in this battle, we stand with you, and more importantly, the Lord of Hosts stands with you.

We hear the exhaustion in your words, and we’re so sorry this is weighing on you so heavily. When a child can’t sleep, it truly presses on the whole household. You are not alone in this, and we join you in bringing it to Jesus.

While we pray, we also want to gently encourage you to reach out to your son’s doctor or a sleep specialist. God often works through medical wisdom, and a professional can check if something physical or developmental needs attention. Keeping a simple log for a few days, when he sleeps, when he’s awake, any patterns you notice, could give the doctor a clearer picture.

We know this isn’t just practical; it’s deeply personal. Sleep is woven into how God made us. He designed us to trust Him with our rest, and when that rest is missing, it can feel like everything is coming undone. Please hear this: God is not distant. He sees your son, He sees the toll this takes on you, and He cares about every wakeful hour.

Take a slow breath with us, and let’s pray.

Lord Jesus, You are the One who gives sleep to those You love. We bring this son to You now. Quiet his mind and his body, and let deep, restoring sleep come. Release this mother from the weight she has carried. Bring peace to their home and break this cycle that is stealing their strength. Guide them to the right help, and in the meantime, let them feel Your calming presence in the middle of these long nights. We ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

This continued wakefulness is a heavy burden, and the strain upon your household is understood. When the night watches refuse to bring slumber, the soul can grow faint and the mind can fix upon the one desire until it becomes an agony. Yet consider that even when a child is sleepless, the Lord still holds the keys of sleep. He bestows it; He rocks the cradle for us every night; He draws the curtain of darkness. Sleep is a gift He gives to His beloved, and He does not need the aid of our anxious frettings to bestow it. The very intensity of your cry shows you know where the power lies.

Do not reckon you have prayed unless you have pleaded, for pleading is the very marrow of prayer. You have asked, now plead the promise. Go to the Lord and speak thus: "O Lord, though my own strength is spent and my household is worn down, do it for Your name’s sake. You have said You give Your beloved sleep. I bring Your own handwriting before You. Fulfil this Word to Your weary servant." It is a grand thing, when pleading with God, to bring His own promise before Him. You have a hold upon Him of the firmest kind. The blessing itself is great, but it is an equal blessing to be made to pray for it. Let this trial drive you to importunate wrestling at the Throne of Grace.

Yet let your pleading also look beyond the immediate need. When the house is in such an uproar, it is easy to become like Jonah, slumbering in the sides of the ship while the storm rages, forgetting to seek God for greater things. While you rightly cry out for slumber for your son, let this wakefulness in your household awaken you to plead for spiritual rest. Cry out, "Lord, do not let us sleep as others do, dead in trespasses and sins. If my son cannot sleep bodily, grant that his soul may not slumber towards eternal things." A sleepless night can be a season where the Lord works in ways we cannot see, just as Pharaoh could not sleep while Joseph remained in the dungeon. The Lord’s purposes are often fulfilled in the quiet watches of the night.

Therefore, bring your helpless condition and your son’s restless state before the Lord. Make a plea out of your poor condition and your son’s exhaustion. Cry, "Make haste unto me, O God! Make no tarrying! I cannot bear this stroke; come to my rescue." In your urgency, remember that the Spirit helps our infirmities. When you cannot find words, He makes intercession. Plead the name of Jesus, for that name unlocks the treasury of heaven. Let this trial bind you to the altar, laying hold of Christ and saying, "Intercessor for the graceless, Thou art an intercessor for me and for my child. O Thou who didst calm the tempest and give sleep to the weary, speak the word, and let this child find Thy peace."

Your son’s sleeplessness is a heavy trial, and you cry out for relief, which is natural. Yet consider: when you say, “This has to stop,” you speak as one who commands, not as one who trusts. Do not lay down terms to God, as though He does not see your household’s turmoil. He sees with a sleepless eye, and He knows the need before you ask. Why then does He delay? Perhaps to teach you something: that even in this exhaustion, you might learn to lean not on your own strength but on His. For if we wake, we shall not need the help of others; but if we sleep, spiritually, I mean, in despair or unbelief, the help of others will profit us nothing. Prayer is good, but it profits most when you yourself are on the alert, watching with faith, not drowning in despondency.

You thank Jesus, and that is well, but do not let your heart be hardened like the Israelites in the wilderness, who, when trials came, grumbled and failed to enter God’s rest. There remains a rest for the people of God, and that rest is not merely sleep for your son, but the peace of Christ in your soul. Seek that first. You are in haste, and for that very reason, I bid you not to be urgent after the flesh. The more you clutch at a solution, the more it may elude you, for God often gives the greater gift when we release the lesser. He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him freely give us all things? Trust that the Lord who watches over your son’s waking hours will grant sleep at the right time, not as you dictate, but as His wisdom ordains.

Meanwhile, do not imagine that this affliction is without purpose. Many such visitations God inflicts, to stir in us a holy fear and to draw our eyes from this world to the next. When we suffer, we learn obedience, and our hope grows brighter. Do not let vainglory or frustration tempt you to think you know better than the Healer of souls. Instead, labor to enter that rest of faith, lest you fall after the example of unbelief. Commend your son to God, and then rest yourself in His care. Sleep will come, but whether it comes swiftly or in God’s slow mercy, glorify Him in the waiting. For the glory belongs to our God and Father forever.

I hear the desperation in your heart as you cry out for your son to finally rest. When a child cannot sleep and the household is unraveling, the weight feels unbearable. Yet you are doing the very thing our Lord invites you to do: you are bringing that burden straight to Jesus, acknowledging that He alone can change the situation. He hears every word, and He is not distant from your distress.

The Scriptures remind us that God understands the love of a parent for a child like no other, for He has an only begotten Son whom He loves perfectly. The Father gave that Son for our redemption, so you can be sure He does not treat your pleas lightly. Your love for your son is a faint reflection of the love the Father has, and He knows the ache of a parent watching a beloved child in turmoil. Trust that heart of the Father with your son's rest.

Keep asking, keep knocking. The Lord does not tire of your prayers; indeed, He invites the weary to come to Him for rest. The Son Himself promised peace and rest for all who are heavy laden. While you wait, hold onto this: God gives sleep to those He loves. He is not constrained by a clock or a count of sleepless hours. In His perfect timing, He can quiet the mind and body of your son and bring the calm your household desperately needs. Until then, cast every anxious thought on Him, for He cares for you and for your child. May the peace of Christ, the true Son in whom all the promises of God are yes and amen, guard your heart and grant sleep to your son this very night.
