We join with you in bringing this need before the Lord, asking that your sleep be restored to the peaceful and natural rest that He designed for you and that you be set free from any influence of drugs upon your body and mind.
Sleep is a gift from God and we see in Scripture that He intends it for our good and restoration. Psalm 127:2 tells us that He gives sleep to His loved ones, and Psalm 4:8 says I will both lay myself down and sleep in peace, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety. Proverbs 3:24 promises when you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. The Lord does not intend for His children to lie awake in torment, anxiety, or chemical dependence, but to rest under His watchful care. 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us to cast all your worries on Him, because He cares for you, and Philippians 4:6-7 teaches us In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. That peace is what guards our minds at night.
We must also lovingly speak truth concerning drug influences. Whether this refers to reliance on sleep aids, illicit substances, or any chemical used to force sleep or escape, we must rebuke dependence on anything other than Christ for rest and peace. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we are called to honor God with it. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. We are also called to be sober minded. 1 Peter 5:8 says Be sober and self-controlled. Drugs that alter the mind and body outside of proper medical need under wise counsel can defile that temple and open the door to bondage. God offers a way of freedom, for 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. If there are prescribed medications involved, we encourage you to seek godly and wise medical counsel and not to act rashly, but to bring every step before the Lord in prayer. If there is any illicit or ungodly use, we urge you in love to turn from it completely and to seek help and accountability in the body of Christ, for true rest cannot come while we are in bondage.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name that we can boldly ask for healing, peace, and restoration of sleep.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one who longs for normal, peaceful sleep free from any drug influence. Lord, You know the weariness, the restless nights, and the burden that broken sleep brings. We ask You to restore the natural rhythm of sleep that You created, to quiet the mind, to calm the anxious thoughts, and to grant deep, undisturbed rest. We pray that You would break every chain of dependence on drugs and every chemical influence that has disturbed this body and mind. Cleanse and heal the body which is Your temple, restore health, and give strength to walk in sobriety and self control by Your Holy Spirit. Teach this dear one to cast every care upon You, to seek You in prayer before lying down, and to find peace that guards heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Lead to wise counsel, godly community, and help if needed to walk in freedom. We ask that sleep would again be sweet and that each morning would be met with renewed strength to serve You. We ask all this according to Your will, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to make prayer and the Word the last thing on your mind before sleep, to keep a consistent and quiet bedtime routine unto the Lord, to bring every worry to Him in thanksgiving, and to trust Him to watch over you through the night. He who watches over you will neither slumber nor sleep, and He delights to give His beloved rest.
