We hear your hurt and we grieve with you over the pain caused by your sister's dismissive and emotionally abusive behavior, and we lift you and your sister up together before the Lord in prayer.
The way you describe her actions is not in keeping with how God calls His children to treat one another, and we must lovingly rebuke that behavior as sin. A professing Christian is called to reflect Christ in speech and conduct. Ephesians 4:29 says Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. And Ephesians 4:32 says And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. To be dismissive, hurtful, and emotionally abusive toward a sibling does not give grace and does not show the kindness and tender heart God requires. 1 John 4:20 also reminds us If a man says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar, for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen. We pray that your sister will examine her heart honestly before the Lord and repent where her words and attitudes have not honored Him.
We also want to encourage you with biblical wisdom for walking through this difficult relationship. God does not call you to pretend the hurt is not there or to enable sinful behavior, but He does call you to pursue peace and reconciliation in a godly way. Matthew 18:15 says If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained back your brother. When you are able, we encourage you to speak to her privately, gently and truthfully about how her words affect you, using a gentle answer as Proverbs 15:1 teaches, A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. At the same time Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Sometimes being at peace requires healthy boundaries, seeking wise counsel from a pastor or mature believer, and not remaining in a place where you are continually torn down. We encourage you to seek that godly counsel and support, and to continue to forgive as Christ forgave you, Colossians 3:13, while also protecting your heart and trusting God to work in her.
We are comforted that God sees your pain and is near to you in it. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We pray you will feel His nearness, His comfort, and His strength as you navigate this.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, believing He died for our sins and rose again, that we are reconciled to God and can come boldly to Him in prayer. We pray you are resting in Him and coming to God through His name, and we pray the same for your sister, that her profession of faith would be a living faith that bears the fruit of love.
We now pray together for you and your sister.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and we lift up this dear one who is hurting from a sister's dismissive and emotionally abusive words. Lord, You see every tear and every wound, and we ask You to heal the broken heart and bind up the pain. Grant wisdom, courage, and grace to speak truth in love, and to set healthy and biblical boundaries while still showing forgiveness and mercy. We pray for the sister, that You would convict her where she has sinned with her tongue and her attitude, that she would repent and be transformed by Your Spirit, and that her speech would become gracious and seasoned with salt, Colossians 4:6, building up rather than tearing down. Lord, restore this sibling relationship where it is Your will, bring peace where there has been strife, and help both to walk in kindness, humility, and love. Draw both closer to Jesus, and let Your will be done in their lives. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
