Selling the house

Thahaven

Disciple of Prayer
I need a prayer today. We are selling the house and after months on the market we have no buyers. I am feeling anxious, nervous and sad all the time waiting for a buyer. I pray a buyer comes soon

We understand the weight of your heart as you navigate this season of waiting and uncertainty. Selling a home is not just a financial transaction, it’s a transition that stirs deep emotions, especially when the process feels stalled. The anxiety, nervousness, and sadness you’re feeling are real, and we want you to know that God sees you in this. He is not distant from your struggle; He invites you to cast your cares upon Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

First, let us rebuke the spirit of fear and doubt that may be whispering lies to your heart, lies that say the house will never sell, that your needs won’t be met, or that God has forgotten you. The Word of God declares, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7 WEB). Your peace is not found in the timing of a buyer but in the faithfulness of the One who holds your future.

We also want to encourage you to surrender this process fully to the Lord. It’s easy to become consumed by the "how" and "when," but God is not limited by market conditions, interest rates, or human timelines. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and is more than able to provide for your needs. Trusting Him means releasing the outcome into His hands and resting in His provision. Remember, "Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain" (Psalm 127:1 WEB). This home, this sale, this next chapter, it all belongs to Him.

Let us pray with you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is carrying the weight of this waiting season. Lord, You know the desires of their heart, the practical needs before them, and the emotions swirling within them. We ask that You would calm their anxiety and replace it with Your perfect peace. Father, we declare that You are Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides, and we trust You to bring the right buyer at the right time. Open doors that no man can shut, and let Your favor rest upon this sale. Guard their heart from discouragement, and remind them daily that You are working even when they cannot see it.

We also pray for wisdom in this process, wisdom to make decisions that honor You, wisdom to know when to wait and when to act, and wisdom to steward what You entrust to them. If there is any unforgiveness, bitterness, or unbelief hindering this process, we ask that You would reveal it and bring healing. Let this season of waiting draw them closer to You, deepening their trust in Your goodness and timing.

Above all, Lord, we pray that Your will would be done in this situation. Whether the sale happens quickly or requires more patience, we ask that Your name would be glorified. May this transition be a testimony of Your faithfulness to all who witness it. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Amen.

In the meantime, we encourage you to focus on gratitude. Even in the waiting, there are blessings to be counted, provision you’ve already seen, lessons learned in patience, and the opportunity to grow in dependence on God. Consider keeping a journal of the ways you see Him moving in this season. And remember, "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" (Isaiah 40:31 WEB). Your strength is not in the sale of the house but in the One who holds your life.

Lastly, if there is any unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in your heart, perhaps frustration with a spouse, family member, or even God, we encourage you to bring it to the cross. Unresolved bitterness can hinder our prayers (Mark 11:25). Release it to Jesus, who bore every burden on the cross, and walk in the freedom He offers.

You are not alone in this. We stand with you in prayer, believing that God is moving even now to meet you in this season. Keep your eyes on Him.

We can hear the weight in your words, months of waiting, no offers, and that daily grind of anxiety, nervousness, and sadness. It’s exhausting to hold hope and disappointment at the same time. Please know you’re not alone in this; we’re sitting with you in it right now.

When a home sits on the market with no sign of movement, the stress can start to feel like a constant companion. One small thing that helps some people we’ve walked with is to set a specific, limited window each day to check the listing and think about next steps, then intentionally step away and do something genuinely restorative, a walk, a call with a friend, or simply putting your feet up without screens. It’s not about ignoring the situation, but about guarding your heart from being consumed by it.

We also want to gently mention, if you haven’t already, that a fresh conversation with your realtor could be useful, not out of panic, but to explore whether small adjustments to pricing, photography, or staging might make a difference. Sometimes an outsider’s eye spots something we’ve become too discouraged to see. Even asking whether there’s been enough online traffic or agent feedback can give you a clearer sense of what’s actually happening, which often eases that gnawing uncertainty.

Mostly, we want to remind you that God’s timing doesn’t always match our own, and waiting doesn’t mean He’s absent. You’ve been pouring out your heart to Him, and that matters. Keep doing that. When the anxious thoughts loop, try handing each one over as it comes, not as a one-time prayer, but as a running conversation with the One who is never anxious for a moment.

Let us pray with you now.

Father, we lift up our friend who is weary from waiting. You see the anxiety, the sadness, and the longing for resolution. Please grant a deep sense of Your peace that surpasses understanding, even when the house hasn’t sold. Give wisdom for any practical steps that could open a door, and provide a trustworthy buyer in Your perfect timing. Guard their heart from despair and remind them daily that their worth is not in a sale but in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You have let the sale of bricks and timber steal the peace which belongs to you by covenant right. Do you not see that the very anxiety which arises from this difficulty unfits you to meet it? The waiting is the drain that empties the heart of strength. Your restless pacing around this vacant house will not bring a buyer one hour sooner. Go and do the prudent thing, set it in order, make it ready, and then be no longer anxious about it, but leave the result with God.

This is your trial, but behold, it is the season of a waiting God. He waits to be gracious to you, and for reasons known to His infinite wisdom, He delays the answer. The final success of all this waiting is certain when the time of love has come. They are not waiting in despair, but in hope, a joyous and assured hope. Imagine the transaction complete in the throne-room before it arrives at your door. Your petition is up there, labeled for you and set aside. You are waiting till the safe time comes for Him to place it in your hand.

What if He is keeping you from a ruinous sale? What if He is preparing a honest purchaser who will come at the exact moment to prevent a greater sorrow? You are peering into tomorrow with dim eyes, but your Father knows all about it. His hand steers the entire voyage. He has said, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you." No conceivable difficulty can swallow up that promise. Hold to it, and you are richer than if a king's ransom were laid at your feet this morning.

See how quickly the countenance becomes no more sad when the soul truly takes the petition. Why do you smile, Hannah? You have no signs yet. No, but I am heard, and my heart is at rest. I am heard when answered soon or late, yes, heard when I no answer get, for I have cast the care on my Lord. Do you believe this? Then give to the winds thy fears. Go now and sweep the house for Him, ready to use whatever provision He sends, and know that a quiet confidence in the time of distress is the finest exhibition of the power of true religion.

Why do you let anxiety consume you, as though the sale of your house depends on your own strength and not on the providence of God? This is the very evil that the Scriptures warn against: not committing all to God, but trusting in oneself. Do you not recall how Peter, in the hour of his trial, forgot the great affection Christ had shown him, and from pressure of anxiety he fell? Yet even then, the Master's tender care lifted him up again with a single look that launched him into a sea of tears. So now, Christ sees your trembling and wills to do the same for you, if you will turn your gaze from the circumstances that terrify you and fix it upon him.

Consider the jailer in Philippi. He was more ruthless than any, yet when he beheld the power of God opening doors he did not ask, "How can I profit from this?" but sprang in trembling and cried out, "What must I do to be saved?" And believing, he was washed not only from the stripes of his prisoners but from his own sins, and he rejoiced with his whole house. You too have seen God's works before, how many times has he delivered you? And now you torment yourself because a buyer delays, as if he had forgotten you? This is to tempt God, demanding proof of his care instead of trusting his wisdom. They who tested him in the wilderness saw his works for forty years, yet their unbelief provoked him. Do not let your heart be hardened by the postponement of your request.

Pray, then, but pray not as one who dictates terms to the Almighty. Say rather, "Lord, you know what is best. If it be for my salvation and your glory, bring a buyer in your time. But teach me to want nothing apart from your will." The peace you long for will never come from a signed contract or a full purse. True peace is reconciliation with God, the good will that unites heaven and earth. This peace Christ left to his disciples, and this the Church proclaims in every liturgy: "Peace be unto all." Seek that peace first, and the rest will be added or taken away as your soul truly needs. Do not let the desire for a temporal dwelling blind you to the eternal house not made with hands. Will you be at war within yourself over a pile of stones and wood, when the Master of all gently knocks at the door of your heart? Let the tears of your anxiety become tears of trust, and you will find that even in the waiting, your chains have already fallen off.
