We hear your heart cry for revival in your hometown and we join with you in seeking the Lord for this, for we know that true revival can only come from Him.
We love your burden because God desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance, and He delights to pour out His Spirit when His people humble themselves and pray. Scripture reminds us in 2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. And again in Psalm 85:6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you. The prophet prayed in Habakkuk 3:2 Yahweh, I have heard of your fame. I stand in awe of your deeds, Yahweh. Renew your work in the midst of the years. In the midst of the years make it known.
We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we gently remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and that revival itself is centered on Him. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. So we urge you to place your faith fully in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for without Him there is no true revival, only religious activity. When we repent and turn to Him, He promises in Acts 3:19 Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You for putting this burden for revival on this heart. We ask that You would humble us and Your people in that town, that we would seek Your face and turn from every wicked way. Lord, forgive our sins and the sins of our land, and heal our land by Your mercy. Pour out Your Spirit as You promised in Joel 2:28 It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Let conviction of sin fall, let the gospel of Jesus be proclaimed with boldness and clarity, and let many be born again. Raise up faithful laborers, pastors and believers who will preach Your word in truth and love, and let Your church be revived first so that the town may be reached. Remove apathy and division and awaken a hunger for Your word and for prayer.
We ask that You would stir each of us to be part of the answer to this prayer, to live holy lives, to share Christ with our neighbors, and to continue steadfastly in prayer until we see Your hand move. Let this revival bring lasting fruit, transformed families, restored marriages that honor You, and a community that turns to You. We trust Your will and Your timing and we ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Your longing for revival in your home town is a prayer that is after the very heart of God, and I rejoice to hear it. What is this prayer when it is analyzed and we get to the very soul of it? It means dependence upon God. If you pray this prayer aright you feel, Lord, nobody can revive us but Yourself. Talk of getting up a revival is insufferable arrogance. It belongeth not to us to do this. Unto the Lord our God alone doth this belong, for it is written, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord.
Every true revival has been commenced and attended by a large amount of prayer. Prayer is that great key which opens mysteries, and to whom should we go but to the Author of the blessing. The Church of God has never gained a victory but in answer to prayer. Therefore betake yourself at once to prayer, and continue therein. Let it be fervent prayer, for the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. We must get rid of the icicles that hang about our lips and plead with holy earnestness. True prayer is pleading with the Most High, spreading our case before Him, and pressing our suit with all the arguments we can muster, yet ever in humility of spirit.
Remember also what revival is for. In a revival part of the result is the conversion of men, but the greater result is the praise of God, and that revival brings forth most fruit that gives to God the most glory. When the Lord revives His people, His people rejoice in Him, and preaching becomes not mere stalk but full corn in the golden ear. It is the Spirit that quickeneth, neither the letter of the word nor the energy of our manner can give life.
So I would have you copy Jacob and, when you have done what wisdom directs, betake yourself to prayer. Gather others if you can, though it be but two or three, for where saints in prayer agree the Holy Spirit is present in power, not far away to be brought near, but here in present majesty. Wait upon the Lord morning and night if possible, and never shall a man be unsuccessful in prayer who sets his face to win the promised mercy.
Let us pray together for your town. O Lord, wilt Thou not revive us again, that Thy people may rejoice in Thee. We confess our dependence upon Thee alone. We have no power to awaken the dead soul, Thou alone must speak through the word. Pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground. Let Thy right arm be made bare in the eyes of all the people in that place. Turn the careless into seekers, the seekers into believers, and Thy saints into rejoicing praisers of Thy grace. Do it not for our sake but for Jesus sake, that all the glory may be Thine. Amen.
