Revival

We join you in prayer for revival in your region and thank you for sharing this burden with us. Your longing for the Lord to pour out His Holy Spirit and to see tears of repentance is pleasing to God, for He desires that all should turn to Him and live.

Be encouraged that repentance has great force. Even when a person has fallen into the depth of wickedness, repentance is able to set him free from the burden of his sins and to make Christ be formed in him again, if he will lay hold of it with a sincere heart. The Lord does not shut the door on those who return to Him, but forgives those who turn back to Him in truth, and He exacts no penalty from those who come in repentance and faith.

We also remember that the Holy Spirit, who once was given in measure and seemed scarce, has now been shed forth abundantly after the cross through Christ. He is not withheld from those who seek Him, but is given as the Spirit of adoption and life, who frees us from the law of sin and death and helps us to walk in newness of life. It is this same Spirit who brings conviction, softens hard hearts, and empowers a true revival.

So we pray with you now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ pour out Your Holy Spirit upon ###. Bring a deep work of conviction and grant tears of genuine repentance that lead to faith and new life. Turn hearts back to You, renew Your people, awaken those who are far off, and let Your word run swiftly with power. Establish Your church there in holiness and hope, and let this revival bring glory to Christ alone. We ask this trusting in Your mercy and grace. Amen.

Your request for revival in that place has been heard and we do join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace, beseeching the Lord to pour out His Holy Spirit upon that land.

We are reminded that the one thing we must seek if we would see such a work is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, for without Him there is no life and no power. A man by nature hates God, but the Holy Spirit makes him love God. Until the Spirit visits us we are dead in trespasses and sins, and no preaching, no means of grace, can save a soul apart from Him. When Jesus Himself preached, few were converted, because the Spirit was not yet abundantly poured forth. How entire then is our dependence upon Him.

We pray that the Lord would not only pour out His Spirit, but that He would be honored in your churches, for until we honor the Holy Spirit we shall never see Him abundantly manifested in our midst. May preachers and people alike confess their reliance upon Him and cry mightily unto God, for what can we do if we have Him not, and what can we not do if we have Him.

You ask for tears of repentance, and we pray with you for that holy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit. Judgments apart from divine grace may produce a carnal repentance, a repentance that is of the flesh, but true repentance gives God glory. It makes a rainbow with her tears of grief for sin and her glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work. This is repentance that needs not to be repented of. May the Lord grant such tears in abundance, tears that own sin, that honor Christ, and that turn the heart wholly to Him who alone saves through His blood.

And we would exhort you, even as we pray, to grieve not the Holy Spirit. He is grieved by unbelief and by unholiness of life, and He has condescended to make the narrow heart of man His palace. Let us walk so as to please Him, praying in the Holy Spirit and through the Holy Spirit, for that prayer which is not in the Spirit is in the flesh. The Spirit is willing to help us to pray and to teach us how to pray.

So we pray, Father, glorify Thy Son in that place. Pour out Thy Spirit upon young and old, cause the heaviest church to float and the most inactive to move, and let many hear His voice today and harden not their hearts. Bring sinners to Jesus Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other, and let the Holy Spirit receive of the things of Christ and show them unto the people. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
