You have prayed that what is owed to you be returned, and you feel the resistance of the enemy holding it back, as if an invisible hand presses against your just due. That ache of delay is no small thing, it drags on the heart like a ship pulling at its anchor in a restless sea. But I want you to see something: the very fact that you have brought this to the Lord in Jesus’ name means you are not left to wrestle alone, and the God who hears you is neither indifferent nor slow in the way we so often measure slowness.
Think of Noah’s dove, sent out over the flood. She flew across the dark waters, looking for a clean place to rest, and found none. The world was still under judgment; the time of deliverance had not fully come. So she returned, weary and perhaps trembling, to the ark. But Noah put out his hand, pulled her in, and gave her shelter. Your prayer is like that dove returning. You have gone out into the circumstances, tested the winds, and found no resting place for the sole of your foot. Now you come back to the Lord, heavy with the damp of disappointment. And here is the comfort: the ark is not closed to you. The Lord’s hand is already stretched out to receive you, and in His own time He will open the door to the dry ground you long to see. While you wait, He gives you Himself.
The enemy’s resistance is real, but it is not final. Do you remember the promise, “I will strengthen them in the Lord, and they shall walk up and down in his name”? God’s “shall” is mightier than all the world’s “no.” He does not break the bruised reed or snuff out the dimly burning wick. His grace knows how to work gently, yet powerfully, so that what seems immovable begins to shift, and what is unjustly withheld is brought back not by your striving but by His own almighty kindness. He can turn the heart of the stubborn, overturn hidden obstacles, and make a way where there is no way, all without you having to fret yourself into exhaustion.
In the meantime, I would have you possess a deeper rest still. The truest resting place for a believing soul is not the returned debt, precious as that is, but the love of God in Christ Jesus. When you know yourself to be accepted in the Beloved, your necessities already supplied according to His riches in glory, then the delay loses its sting. This is not to say the loss is nothing; it is to say that underneath the loss there is an unfailing treasure. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ gives you peace about everything eternal, and the love of the Father whispers that you are precious in His sight. Nothing can separate you from that love, not delays, not enemies, not empty hands. So let your heart return to its rest even now.
Hold your petition before the throne with open hands and a quiet heart, for the God who ran to meet the prodigal is already moving toward you.
Let us pray:
Lord, You see the weights that press upon Your child, the debts that linger, the resistance that would steal peace and provision. In Jesus’ name, we ask You to command what is justly due to be restored, and to break every yoke the enemy has laid upon this matter. But more than the answer, give the quiet confidence that You are faithful, and that in Christ all things are ours already. Hold this dear one close, as Noah drew the weary dove into the ark, and let them know the rest that comes from resting in You. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
