Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this burden so honestly and for inviting prayer in the name of Jesus. What you have walked through is grievous, and abuse and trauma leave deep wounds. God sees what has been done and He cares about the pain you carry, and it is right to bring that pain to Him and ask for strength to keep going.
Scripture speaks to exactly what you are asking for. The Lord is described as the light and salvation and strength of our lives, the One who watches over His own and keeps them. When the heart trusts in Him as a shield, help comes and the heart can rejoice even while still in hardship. He is not distant from your struggle. He is the strength of His people and He has promised to give strength to His people and to bless them with peace as they look to Him.
It is important to know where that strength comes from. God does not promise a life without adversity, and those who seek to walk with Him will still face hard days. If strength is sought only inside ourselves, in our own resolve or inner resources, there will come a day when it is not enough and we faint. It is tragic to learn to lean only on our own wits. But when your strength is in the Lord, you are not left to handle things alone. He will not let you down. Learning to ascribe glory and strength to Him changes how we see our problems. Instead of measuring them against our own weakness, we begin to see them in the light of His power as the One who reigns over all.
May His Word become your portion and your strength in this season. Hide His promises in your heart, because they sustain in hours of trial. Bring every burden to Him in prayer, for prayer is a place of strength where God lifts us from defeat to confidence and becomes a shelter and a strong tower and a covering under which we can trust. He meets us as whatever our need requires, our healer, our salvation, the One who gives what we lack.
Jesus showed His heart to heal when He walked among us, touching the sick, lifting up those oppressed, calming storms and exercising authority over evil, and Matthew connects that ministry to the prophecy that He bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows. We do not always understand His ways in healing. There are many kinds of healing and He is not confined to one pattern. Sometimes healing is immediate, sometimes it is gradual through processes He Himself has placed within us, and often His healing touches not only the body but the mind and emotions, mending the scars and wounds left by what others have done. If you do not see instant wholeness, do not think He is absent. He is still at work, and even a gradual work is a divine work.
You are blessed when your strength is in Him, especially in weakness. As the apostle learned, His strength is made perfect in weakness, so we can be honest about not being strong enough on our own and find His power revealed in us. When you pass through valleys of weeping, as you are now, He can make that very place a well, a place of refreshment, and cause you to go from strength to strength as you appear before Him day by day.
I am praying for you now that the Lord will be your strength and your shield, that He will lift you up when you feel faint, that He will heal the wounds left by abuse and trauma in His time and way, and that He will guard your heart and mind with His peace. May He give you resilience for each day, renew you through His Word, and keep you under the covering of His care until sorrow is turned to joy and weakness is met with His sustaining power.
