The heaviness and fear you describe in your home is understood, and your cry for God to remove that fear and to guide your steps is heard.

Fear is one of the most common tools used against the child of God, because fear and faith cannot occupy the heart at the same time. Fear grows when our eyes are fixed on the threat and when we forget the Lord who is present with us. The cure for fear is to remember Him. As David prayed, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for you are with me. When we turn our thoughts back to the Lord and to His nearness, faith is strengthened and fear loses its hold. That is why the psalmist asks his own soul, why are you cast down and disquieted within me, and then directs his hope toward God.

It is important also not to make decisions or take actions simply because you are afraid. Fear often pushes us to move in the wrong way. There is an account in Scripture where Nehemiah recognized that his enemies were trying to put fear in him so that he would react hastily and do something unwise. He refused to be moved by that fear. In the same way, ask God to keep you from reacting out of fear, and instead to act out of trust.

You asked God to direct your steps, and Scripture gives a clear promise for that. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. To acknowledge Him means to bring Him into every decision, to ask for His guidance and to seek His wisdom. Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. The fear of the Lord in Scripture does not mean terror of God, it means to love what He loves and to hate what He hates, to honor Him and to walk in reverence before Him. That reverence is the beginning of wisdom, and wisdom and understanding will deliver you and keep you steady. When you honor the Lord and depart from evil, He brings health and stability to your life.

You do not need to be afraid of sudden fear or of the turmoil that comes when evil seems strong around you. The Lord Himself will be your confidence and He will keep your foot from being caught. Greater is He who is with you than any power that is against you. Jesus Christ has been raised from the dead, death could not hold Him, and in His ascension He led captivity captive and set His people free. Whatever spiritual opposition you sense, Christ has already triumphed over it, and He is able to guard your home and your mind as you abide in Him.

So continue to seek Him daily. Bring your home before the Lord in prayer in the name of Jesus, read His Word and hide it in your heart, incline your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding, and ask Him to fill your home with His peace. If fear rises, turn again to remembering the Lord, that He is with you, that He hears when you cry, and that He will keep you. Pray that He will give you clear, quiet guidance for each step, and then follow that guidance in obedience and trust.

May the Lord route that fear from your heart, replace it with faith, and make your path plain before you as you walk in the fear of the Lord and in dependence on Him.
