We join you in bringing this relationship before the Lord and we understand your desire to hear from this person, to talk, to work things out and to receive forgiveness.
We want to encourage you to view this relationship through a biblical lens. If this is a romantic relationship, we believe courtship should be with the purpose of discerning marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that honors God. We pray that if it is God's will, this relationship would move toward that godly purpose, and if not, that He would give you both clarity and peace to follow His will. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity, or what fellowship has light with darkness, 2 Corinthians 6:14. Can two walk together, unless they are agreed, Amos 3:3. We also gently remind you that any courtship is to remain pure, for God will judge the sexually immoral, and marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the bed undefiled, Hebrews 13:4. If there has been sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we urge you to repent and to pursue purity going forward.
We also hear your pain about unkindness and the need for forgiveness. Scripture calls us to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, Ephesians 4:32, and to bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do, Colossians 3:13. Love is patient and is kind, love does not envy, does not brag, is not proud, 1 Corinthians 13:4. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger, Proverbs 15:1, and we are told to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath, James 1:19. We pray you both will speak to one another with grace and truth, listening well and extending the forgiveness you have received.
We also notice your prayer says Lord but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. To be saved we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, Romans 10:9. It is in His name we pray with confidence, and we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior if you have not already.
We pray together now. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one and the person on their heart. You know the hurt, the distance, and the longing to talk and to be forgiven. We ask first for Your will to be done in this relationship. If this courtship can honor You and lead toward a godly marriage, we pray You would soften both hearts, remove meanness and harshness, and grant humble, honest communication. Help them to forgive as You have forgiven us, to speak with kindness and to listen with patience. If this relationship is not Your will, give clear direction and strength to follow You. Teach them to wait on You, for we wait for Yahweh, be strong, and let your heart take courage, yes, wait for Yahweh, Psalm 27:14. Draw them both closer to Jesus, keep them pure, and guide them by Your wisdom. We trust Your timing even when we long to hear today, knowing Your thoughts are higher than ours. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
We encourage you to continue in prayer, to seek godly counsel from mature believers, and to keep pursuing Christ above all. Trust that God hears, that He is working even in the waiting, and that He will lead you in the way you should go as you seek Him first.
