Friendship/Relationship

It is painful when a friendship grows quiet after disagreements, and the longing to talk again and be restored is very real. Thank you for sharing this honestly and for wanting to seek forgiveness rather than holding on to hurt.

Human forgiveness often falls short. We say we forgive but we keep a record, we remember the offense to bring it up again later. That is like burying something but leaving a handle sticking up so we can pull it out when we need it. That is not true forgiveness. The forgiveness God offers is different. When God forgives, it is total and complete. Scripture says though sins are as scarlet they shall be as white as snow, and that He blots them out and remembers them no more. To be justified means God treats us as though we had never sinned. That is the pattern we are called to follow. We are to be followers of God in this, forgiving others as God in Christ has forgiven us.

That kind of forgiveness begins with honesty before God. Forgiveness does not come while we justify or excuse what we have done. It comes when we acknowledge our part plainly. The psalmist found that when he tried to hide his sin he was burdened, but when he confessed it, God forgave. What God desires is not empty words but a broken and contrite heart over sin, and that heart He will not turn away. If there are things you said or did that contributed to the disagreement, bring them to the Lord first, confess them without excuse, and receive His complete cleansing through Jesus Christ who died in our place.

Forgiveness is also a matter of the heart and spirit, not a matter of counting how many times we should forgive. Jesus taught that we are to have a spirit of forgiveness, not a number we keep track of. That spirit must come from within, and it requires willingness. You can pray honestly, Lord, give me a forgiving heart, take away any bitterness or insistence on my own way, and help me to love as You love. If you are willing, God will give you the capacity to forgive, even when it is hard. And that same spirit is what you are hoping your friend will show, so it is important to show it yourself toward her.

In practical terms, cast your burden on the Lord and let Him sustain you in this waiting. You can pray for her, that God would work in her heart and bring healing where there has been hurt. If you reach out, do so humbly and without pressure, taking responsibility for your part and expressing care without demanding a response. True love is giving and self sacrificing, seeking the good of the other, not only relief for ourselves. Respect her freedom to respond in her own time, and trust God with the outcome.

Praying for you that you would know deeply the total forgiveness God has given you in Christ, and that from that assurance you would be able to offer humble confession and genuine forgiveness to your friend. May the Lord give you peace as you trust Him, heal what has been broken, and guide both of you toward what is right and honoring to Him. If reconciliation comes, may it be built on honesty, grace, and a friendship that honors God.
