Friendship/Relationship

Your honest prayer before the Lord is a good and right step. You have acknowledged that you said mean things, you are asking God to forgive you, and you are asking for your friend to forgive you and for communication to be restored. God hears that kind of humble confession.

The Bible teaches that God's forgiveness is not like ours. When we say we forgive, we often keep a record and bring it up again, as if we bury the hatchet but leave the handle showing. God's forgiveness is complete. When He forgives, He blots out the transgression and does not bring it up again. Isaiah says though your sins are as scarlet they shall be as white as snow. Scripture says all your transgressions shall not be mentioned to you again, and that you are justified, which means God treats you as though you never did it. That is the forgiveness you can receive through Jesus Christ when you confess your sin honestly, without excusing or justifying it. David prayed that way, asking God according to His mercy to blot out his transgressions, and he found that forgiveness comes when we say, I acknowledge my sin, rather than hiding or covering it. If you confess your sin to Him, He is faithful to cleanse and pardon you, and you do not need to be haunted by guilt any longer.

Jesus taught that forgiveness is not a matter of mathematics. When Peter asked if he should forgive seven times, Jesus answered seventy times seven, not to give a new number to count to, but to show that forgiveness is a matter of the heart and spirit. You will lose count before you reach that number, and that is the point. We are to have a spirit of forgiveness. He illustrated this with a king who forgave his servant a huge debt, showing how much we have been forgiven by God and how that should shape how we forgive others. We are called to be followers of God in this, to forgive as God has forgiven us in Christ, and to walk in self giving love as Jesus loved us and gave Himself for us.

That is why Jesus stressed this petition in the prayer He taught us, forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and then added, if you forgive others their trespasses, your Father will also forgive you. Your willingness to forgive opens the door for you to know the Father's forgiveness more deeply, and holding on to bitterness or an unforgiving spirit only damages you spiritually and in every other way.

For your situation, bring two requests to the Lord. First, ask Him to fully forgive you and to cleanse you, trusting that His pardon is total. Second, ask Him to give you a true spirit of forgiveness from the heart, and pray that He will also work in your friend's heart to give her that same spirit, so that she may be willing to forgive. God will give the capacity to forgive if you are willing, but you must be willing and ask Him, saying, Father, take away any bitterness and give me a forgiving heart.

If the Lord opens the door, go to your friend humbly, without excuses, confess clearly what you said was wrong, ask for her forgiveness, and leave the outcome in God's hands. Whether she is ready to talk again right away or needs time, trust the Lord to do what is best and to bring healing in His way and time. Holding no record, not bringing the offense up again, is what real forgiveness looks like, and that is the pattern God shows us.

Praying for you now, Father, thank You for Your mercy that abundantly pardons through Jesus Christ. I ask You to forgive this one who has confessed mean words spoken to a friend. Wash and cleanse according to Your tender mercies and let this person receive Your complete forgiveness by faith. Give a spirit of forgiveness from the heart, remove any bitterness, and grant grace to forgive as You have forgiven. Work also in the friend's heart to bring healing and a willingness to forgive, and if it is Your will, restore kind and honest communication between them. Set both free from ought held against the other, that they may walk in love and peace. In Jesus name, Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer.

We have been lifting up your friendship before the Lord and we continue to pray for restoration and reconciliation between you and your friend. We understand your heart is heavy with repentance for the mean things that were said and your desire to talk again and be forgiven. We thank God for your humble and honest heart that seeks both His forgiveness and the forgiveness of your friend.

We pray that the Lord will grant you His peace and assurance of His forgiveness as you have confessed your sin to Him, for we are reminded in 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We also pray that God will soften and prepare your friends heart to extend grace and forgiveness, and that He will open a door for gentle and healing communication between you both in His perfect timing. We pray that you both may walk in the love and forgiveness that Christ calls us to, as it says in Eph 4:32 to be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave us.

If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.

We pray this in Jesus Name, Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for this friendship and relationship.

For the last few days we have continued to lift you up before the Lord, praying for forgiveness for the mean things that were said and for healing and restoration in this friendship. We have prayed that the Lord would forgive you as you have confessed to Him, as promised in 1 John 1:9, and that He would soften your friends heart to forgive you as well and open the door for you to talk again in His perfect timing. We have asked Him to give you both grace and humility toward one another according to Eph 4:32.

If your request was answered and you have experienced forgiveness and renewed conversation, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered and you are still waiting to talk again, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that He will grant you peace while you wait and that He will restore this relationship according to His will, in Jesus Name, Amen.
