Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your prayer has been heard, and the ache of silence in a relationship is a heavy burden to carry. The desire to be heard and to have open communication is natural, for God made us for fellowship and for words that build up rather than tear down.
Scripture teaches that our speech should be for edifying, to build up the hearer and to do good. Words that are demanding or that seek to control another person do not soften the heart, but words spoken in patience, in truth, and in love can open a way for understanding. If there is distance between you and this man, consider first what kind of communication honors God. It is not nagging or manipulation, but honesty spoken with gentleness and respect, and a willingness also to listen. Love is patient and does not force its own way, and it seeks the good of the other.
I also want to encourage you to bring your relationship before God in light of His design. God offers salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and He calls those who follow Him to walk in holiness. He designed marriage to be a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and He intends sexual intimacy and living together to belong within that covenant. If you are married to this man, then pray for reconciliation, for forgiveness where needed, and for both of you to grow in faithfulness to your vows. If you are not married, then pray for clarity and purity, and ask whether this relationship is leading you both toward Christ and toward a godly marriage, or away from Him. In either case, the most important question is whether each of you is seeking Christ first.
Rather than only asking God to make another person speak to you, ask Him to work in both hearts according to His will. Pray for wisdom to know how to speak and when to be silent, for self control, and for trust in God's timing. Seek wise counsel from a pastor or a mature believer who knows you, and continue in prayer, in the Word, and in the fellowship of the church.
Let us pray together. Father in heaven, You know the longing of this heart and the pain of unanswered words. Draw near to her and give her comfort and peace that comes from Christ. Lead her and this man to seek You above all, to repent where there is sin, and to walk in holiness. Grant wisdom to speak words that are true and edifying, and grace to listen well. Let Your will be done in this relationship, and conform both lives to the likeness of Your Son. Give patience in waiting, clarity in decisions, and help to honor You in all things. In the name of Jesus Christ we ask this, amen.
