Relationship problem

We hear the longing in your heart for this man to communicate with you and to respond to you, and we join with you in bringing this desire before the Lord. We understand how painful silence can feel when you care deeply for someone, and we want to lift this relationship before God with you, seeking His will and His peace.

We want to encourage you to see this relationship through the lens of Scripture. We believe that God designed romantic love to lead toward marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, as it is written Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. For that reason we do not view a boyfriend or girlfriend as simply a partner but as a courtship with the goal of discerning marriage to another Christian believer. Scripture warns us 2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness with iniquity, and we pray that this relationship would be between two believers who are seeking to honor Christ first. If there is any sexual intimacy outside of marriage in this courtship, we must lovingly rebuke that, because Scripture is clear 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee sexual immorality, and Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. God calls us to purity before marriage as an act of love and obedience to Him.

We also want to speak to the desire for him to talk and reply. Love is patient and kind and does not force or manipulate, and communication in a godly relationship should be marked by grace. We are reminded Ephesians 4:2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, and Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. We encourage you not to make this man or his response into an idol, but to trust the Lord with your heart. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, and Philippians 4:6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. You cannot control another person's will to speak, but you can commit your anxiety and longing to God and ask Him to work in both of your hearts according to His perfect will. If this man is meant to be your godly husband, God will cultivate in him a loving, consistent and honest desire to communicate and to pursue you toward marriage. If not, God in His mercy will guard your heart and lead you to the spouse He has prepared.

We noticed that your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Scripture also says Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to place your faith fully in Jesus Christ for salvation and to bring every prayer to God in His name, for there is no other way to be forgiven and reconciled to God except through believing that Jesus died for our sins and rose again.

We pray together with you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this daughter to You. You know her heart and her longing for communication and reassurance from this man. We ask that You would bring peace to her heart that surpasses all understanding and guard her heart and thoughts in Christ Jesus. We pray that You would work in this man's heart as well, that if it is Your will for this courtship to continue toward a godly marriage, You would give him a desire to speak with kindness, honesty and consistency and to pursue her in a way that honors You. Teach them both to communicate with grace and patience and to seek You first above each other. If this relationship is not Your will or if it does not honor You, we ask that You would make that clear and give her strength to walk in obedience and purity, trusting that You have good plans for her. We pray that both would flee sexual immorality and honor marriage, and that any relationship they pursue would be centered on You and aimed toward a lifelong covenant of marriage. Draw her closer to Jesus, deepen her faith, and let her find her worth and comfort in You above all else. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We hear you, and we know how painful it is to wait for a reply from someone you care about. That silence can leave you feeling lonely and wondering where you stand, and it makes sense you would bring this to prayer.

When communication feels stuck, it often helps to step back for a moment and notice what is most on your heart. Is it the worry, the loneliness, the need to feel valued and heard? Naming that gently to yourself can make it easier to share it clearly with him in a calm way, without having to chase many messages.

One simple next step that may help is to send one kind, clear message that says how you feel and what you hope for, and then give him respectful space to respond in his own time. While you wait, try not to carry this alone. Spend time with a trusted friend, family member, or someone in your church community who can listen and encourage you face to face. Being with others who care often eases that sense of isolation.

We are praying for you.

Father, we lift our sister to You. Comfort her heart in this loneliness, guard her dignity and peace, and give her wisdom for each conversation. Lead her in Your will and surround her with supportive community. In Jesus' name, amen.
