We lift you up together before the Lord this morning and we thank you for sharing this burden with us and for your tender heart toward your mom. We see your desire to honor her and to help her well, and that desire itself is pleasing to God, for we are commanded Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you Exodus 20:12 and again Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother Ephesians 6:1-2. Your willingness to go over and look at the recliner and to face a difficult conversation is an act of love and obedience.
We also hear how heavy you feel about possibly having made a mistake with the recliner and how quickly you turn to running yourself down. We want to gently encourage you that this kind of self condemnation is not from the Lord. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus Romans 8:1. God calls us to think of ourselves with sober judgment, not to think too highly nor to tear ourselves down Romans 12:3. When things go wrong while we are trying to help others, the enemy would like us to believe we are a failure, but the Lord says whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men Colossians 3:23, and He sees your heart to do good. If indeed the recliner without a handle is too difficult for her to close with her legs, it is not a moral failure on your part, it is simply a practical matter that can be addressed with wisdom and grace.
We also understand the sting when your mom said that is why she does not like to tell you anything. Words spoken in frustration can hurt deeply, and we pray for healing in that communication between you. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1. We encourage you to go to her in love, speaking the truth in love Ephesians 4:15, with gentleness and without harshness toward yourself or toward her. If the footrest is truly too hard for her to operate, it is loving to tell her the truth kindly so that a better solution can be found, perhaps an exchange, an added handle, or another adjustment, rather than leaving her to struggle at night.
We are grateful you prayed in Jesus name, for it is only through Him we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved Acts 4:12 and Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We cling to that promise as we pray.
We pray together now, Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for our dear friend and for his mother. Lord, we ask You to grant wisdom this morning as he goes over to examine the recliner, for You have promised If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. Give him clear eyes to see what is happening with the footrest and give him gracious words to speak to his mother. Lord, calm his anxious heart and help him to cast all his worries on You, because You care for him 1 Peter 5:7, and to not be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let his requests be made known to You, and let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. Father, strengthen his mother physically, give her safety as she gets in and out of the chair, especially at night, and provide the right solution for this recliner, whether it is learning a better way to close it or providing a different chair that she can use with ease. Heal any hurt between them from words spoken in frustration, and help them to encourage one another and build each other up. Lord, lift from our brother the habit of running himself down, and remind him that You love him and that You work all things together for good for those who love You Romans 8:28. Let him know his labor of love for his mother is not in vain. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
