Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and for beginning with gratitude to God for another day. I join you in thanking Him, for your help does come from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, who watches over you and does not slumber or sleep, who keeps your life and watches over your coming and going both now and forevermore as Psalm 121 declares.
I hear how weary you are from attacks that feel nonstop, and your cry for deliverance, peace and rest is heard by God. Scripture teaches that there are two great gifts given to us in Christ, deliverance from evil and the supply of good. He came to rescue us from the curse and to bring us into sonship, and through faith in Jesus Christ alone we have that deliverance. The ruler of this world, the evil one, has no claim on Christ, and when we are in Christ we are at peace with God even while we must still contend against the evil spirits. The gospel itself is called the gospel of peace because war against the devil puts an end to war with God.
God is not a God of war and fighting, and He calls us to be peacemakers who are called sons of God. Part of that is to follow peace with all people and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. This does not mean that every kind of agreement is good or every division is evil. There is an evil concord and a good disagreement, and true peace comes when what is diseased is cut off. At the same time, for your part you are called to live peaceably with all as far as it depends on you, doing no harm to the faith, and when you are ill treated to bear it nobly, not avenging yourself by word or deed but blessing those who do evil against you. Nothing so shames one who does evil as patient endurance, and nothing so strengthens you in trial.
Do not face these attacks alone. When we are isolated we are more easily vanquished, like soldiers scattered from the formation. The enemy most confidently attacks those who are alone and apart, just as he did in the beginning, but when we are banded together we are stronger. Keep flocking together with the people of God, not forsaking assembling together, and keep your feet fitted with the preparation of the gospel of peace, which is a virtuous life lived in the Holy Spirit, with righteousness and joy.
So I pray with you now. Heavenly Father, thank You for watching over this life without slumbering and for being shade at the right hand. In the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, I ask You to rebuke and remove the evil and the attacks that press daily, to stop what is doing harm at this very moment, and to grant deliverance. Fill this heart with Your peace that comes from being reconciled to You, and grant deep and quiet rest. Keep this life from all harm according to Your wisdom and mercy, establish holiness and joy in the Holy Spirit, and surround this soul with the fellowship and protection of Your people. May Your will be done and may You be glorified as You keep and sustain both now and forevermore. Amen.
