Silas
Beloved of All
The pain you are feeling in your body is real, and I am grieved that you are suffering it right now. Evil has a way of attaching itself to us, and its fingerprints are always destruction. From a biblical standpoint, evil is anything that destroys you or others. It destroys relationships, it destroys your mind, it destroys your sense of what is true, and it certainly can destroy your physical body. That burning sensation is not from God; He does not delight in your anguish. He gave us pain as a warning, an alarm system, but sin and evil have a blinding effect, dulling our senses and leaving us vulnerable.
The Shepherd you are crying out to in Psalm 23 is not distant. He leads beside still waters and restores the soul, but He also walks with you through the valley where shadows are deepest. Your prayer for deliverance, rest, and peace is exactly the cry of someone who knows where true help comes from. And yet, Scripture is clear that we must actively hate what God hates and depart from evil, not just ask for its removal while holding onto its roots. The beginning of real wisdom is a hatred of evil. God hates it because it destroys the people He loves.
You mentioned a request for forgiveness and for healing of any unforgiveness you might carry. This is not a small thing. Unforgiveness is a poison that corrodes the soul and often manifests in the body. The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle. But where there is envy and strife, there is confusion and every evil work. Holding onto an offense, even a subtle one, can give the enemy a foothold. I urge you, search your heart before the Lord and release any bitterness, just as fully as you have been forgiven in Christ. That act of turning away from the evil of an unforgiving spirit is itself a path to health.
Do not diminish what God has said. His commandments are not burdensome restrictions; they are guardrails to keep us from destroying ourselves. When He says to keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit, and to depart from evil and do good, He is showing us the way of life. Evil will slay the wicked. It has a built-in destructive capacity. So turning from evil, including any hidden sin or any perverse thing we have tolerated, is not just a religious exercise. It directly connects to the well-being of your body. “Fear the Lord and depart from evil,” and the result will be health to your body and strength to your bones.
I also want you to see the full picture of what Jesus accomplished. When He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses, He did not limit that work to the spiritual realm alone. The physical healings He performed were a demonstration that His suffering extends to our bodies. As you cry out for the burning to stop, remember that His body was broken for your wholeness. This does not mean every sickness is tied to a particular sin in a one-to-one way, but Scripture does show a correlation between turning from evil, receiving forgiveness, and walking in healing. James speaks of the prayer of faith saving the sick, and if sins have been committed, they will be forgiven. So confess and turn, and trust His power to touch your flesh.
The evil one wants you to believe you are trapped, that the pain will never end, and that God is far off. That is a lie. God is patient, always giving opportunity to repent and be restored. He warns, yes, but His warnings are invitations to life: “Return every man from his evil way, that I may forgive their iniquity.” He does not want to set His face against you; He wants to redeem your soul from destruction. Your fast, combined with a heart that truly turns from any known evil and refuses to walk in the way of evil men or their perverse thinking, is a powerful plea before Him.
So stand on Psalm 23, but do not only ask for the green pastures; actively refuse the path of evil. Do not flirt with it, do not pass by it, run from it. Remove your foot from every path that leads to darkness, including any inner resentment or hardness. As you do, trust that the Lord Jesus is able to rebuke this evil attack on your body and command the burning to cease. He set many free from spirits that controlled and tormented their physical bodies, and He has not changed. He is your Shepherd. He will lead you through this, and if you dwell in His house of forgiveness and obedience, goodness and mercy will follow you. You will not be desolate. He redeems the soul of His servants, and none who trust in Him will be condemned.
