Thank you for sharing your burden so openly and for inviting us to stand with you in prayer. Hearing of your mother's passing only months ago, the long and difficult season with your brother's incarceration, and years of seeking the Lord while still waiting for answers, I understand why this ongoing tension with your neighbor feels so heavy. Wanting to grieve in peace and to live quietly in your own home is a right and good desire, and it is right to bring it to the Lord.
Your decision to extend the wall not out of animosity but to keep the peace is wise and Christlike. Scripture says blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God, and that God is not a God of war and fighting but of peace. When you choose peace where you can, you imitate the Son of God and you close the door to lasting enmity. The prophet could say, with the haters of peace I was peaceful, and that is the virtue that draws us near to God. To refuse retaliation when you have been met with retaliation is not weakness, it is strength, and God sees it.
It is also understandable that you feel vexed and weary. Many households carry different sorrows, one on account of family, another on account of a neighbor, another from loss, and no one is free from trouble of some kind. Do not let this provocation wear down your soul beyond measure. The vexation comes not only from a neighbor's actions but from our own weariness, and the Lord would have you cast your care on Him and continue with one accord in prayer, as the first disciples did in the upper room, with one soul persevering before God. He hears the years of prayer you have offered.
We join you in prayer now.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come before You with this family. You know their grief over their mother, You know the painful years with their brother, and You know how long they have been seeking You. Grant them comfort in mourning, patience in waiting, and peace that guards their hearts. We ask You to restrain all evil and every influence of the enemy at work in this neighborhood. Protect this family from confrontation and from retaliation, and soften the heart of this neighbor. Where there has been insult and conflict, bring calm. Give this family wisdom in the practical matter of the wall and the plant that hangs over it, that they may act lawfully and peaceably and keep a clear conscience before You and before men. Help them, as far as it depends on them, to live at peace with all men, to remember no evil, and to overcome evil with good. Let Your peace rule in their home, so that they may grieve, pray, and live in quietness. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our salvation and our peace. Amen.
May the Lord keep you, establish your home in peace, and answer your long seeking in His perfect time and way. Keep continuing in prayer together, keep choosing the way of peace, and trust that God will not overlook a single prayer you have offered.
