Proverbs, Chapter 31

31:1 The words of King Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him.

31:2 What, my son? And what, O son of my womb? And what, O son of my vows?

31:3 Don't give your strength to women, Nor your ways to [those women who] destroy kings.

31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes to desire strong drink.

31:5 Or else they will drink, and forget the law, And pervert the justice [due] to any who is afflicted.

31:6 Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish, And wine to the bitter in soul:

31:7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more.

31:8 Open your mouth for the mute, In the cause of all such as are left desolate.

31:9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And give justice to the poor and needy.

31:10 A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies.

31:11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain.

31:12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life.

31:13 She seeks wool and flax, And works willingly with her hands.

31:14 She is like the merchant-ships; She brings her bread from far.

31:15 She rises also while it is yet night, And gives food to her household, And their task to her maidens.

31:16 She considers a field, and buys it; With the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

31:17 She girds her loins with strength, And makes her arms strong.

31:18 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable: Her lamp does not go out by night.

31:19 She lays her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle.

31:20 She stretches out her hand to the poor; Yes, she reaches forth her hands to the needy.

31:21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household has double clothes.

31:22 She makes for herself carpets of tapestry; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

31:23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land.

31:24 She makes linen garments and sells them, And delivers belts to the merchant.

31:25 Strength and majesty are her clothing; And she laughs at the time to come.

31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom; And the law of kindness is on her tongue.

31:27 She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.

31:28 Her sons rise up, and call her blessed; Her husband [also], and he praises her, [saying]:

31:29 Many daughters have done worthily, But you excel them all.

31:30 Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain; [but] a woman who fears Yahweh, she will be praised.

31:31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; And let her works praise her in the gates.

The following discussion is from the January Reading of This Chapter of Proverbs at ericasp.com:<BR><BR>

<blockquote><p>A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10).<br /></p></blockquote>

<p><br /><img src=&quot;http://public.prayerrequest.com/images/pr365/4179989198_2241b39073.jpg" alt="Abstract Family Portrait - Marci and Cor in Focus" hspace="5" vspace="5" width="334" height="500" align="left" />So it looks like the 31st day of the month is going to be "Marci Appreciation Day" at my house for the next year (at least, as long as I'm doing the Proverbs 365 project). Seriously, it's hard for me to read Proverbs 31's epilogue about the "wife of noble character" and not come away with a deeper, more profound appreciation for my own wife.<br /><br />I personally don't read this section of the Bible as being some over-idealized view of "what the perfect wife should be" -- so much as I read it to be "Sheesh, would ya look at all the amazing things that our women do for us!?! They're incredible! Can't you see how incredible they really are?!?" I imagine that you could read the question in verse 10 as being some kind of bitter old bachelor's complaint... But I think it can also be read as the wondrous musings of a grateful husband. "How did I end up with such a treasure as my wife? I may not have fully realized it at the time we got married -- but I really hit the jackpot!"<br /><br />Well this is, in any event, what I think to myself when I read Proverbs 31. My wife is a tremendous gift from God -- not just beautiful but strong, not just dutiful but extravagant, not just a domestic servant but a true business-savvy dynamo. After nearly 12 years of marriage, I'm still coming to a fuller and fuller realization of Marci's immense value as wife, mother, and woman of God. How did I ever find such a woman??? She is worth far more than rubies...</p>

I love this it is a virteous woman. The poetic version of the bible.

Considering the first 7 verses and how it deals with the artifical things we put in our bodies to change our mood. It is amazing how God gives you what you need right when you need it. I have read this many times and I have never really taken that portion in. God reveals to us His word in His time not ours Thank You Jesus

She does him good and not evil. This is the perfect advice to all women of God who wants to obey Jesus in their hearts and help their husbands and father of her children. She is the perfect example of holy life and help meet to her husband. If he was laid off from work then she should start working somewhere instead of telling him to look harder for a job fit for him. Well she should take nursing courses and get an LPN or Rn and help her husband and the children. My the new years resolution be... to obey the word of God and be a good wife for her husband.

I truly believe until I obeyed this chapter that my marriage was not in order...I have specific duties...A duty to God first and foremost to obey His will for my life...and this chapter is His will for my life...and as Pradmin said..it makes a man look at his wife with love...divine love..

.because she gets up early and performs her duties...acts them out...her duties God to her husband and family....she is obedient and a wife to honor...One that is strong and fights in the spirit not believing what she may see with the carnal eye...Blessed is a righteous wife who helps her husband obtain all that he can be...it truly is my blessing to obey and serve not only my husband but my family...

I believe if I would have applied this chapter to my life several years ago...things would be much different...but Grace can and does lead the sinner to righteousness through our obedience to Him...

Lord reveal to all women who read this chapter to learn how to apply it to the spiritual women that You need us to be especially in these last days...

Men love your wives and acknowledge her beauty...in Jesus name...

Happy New Year to all...and a greater walk in Him...

I truly believe in Gods word. It is for our own good and for our happiness. He is speaking to us every single day.  Be in prayer and He will reveal His deepest truth to your heart and soul. He was us all to be happy in our marriages.  He wasts our best for sure.  A worthy woman.. who can find?  She is worth more than rubies. I hope I will be like this one. With the help of Jesus... we can do it.  For nothing is impossible with God.

Dear God, you are my protector and my guide. You are the light in the midst of darkness. Our sorrows you take them away. Wonderful, counselor, the  prince of peace. Many look after joy and hapinness and cannot find it. But we come to you and find true rest and peace. I seek you with all of my heart, do not let me astray from your commands. Psalm 119.10  This verse really lift me up this morning when I opened my eyes. He made me think about this verse. She rises also while it is night. And gives food to her household. Prob.30.15  It is a perfect example of a woman of God, how she should be and how she should behave. Immortal, holy God. We come to you, to honor and give you thanks. Certainly your word is a lamp to our feet.

A worthy woman, who can find?  31.10. This verse really told me something. A worthy woman is the one who loves the lord Jesus with her whole heart, soul and mind. She serves God in any activity in the church. Volunteers at the local homeless shelter and feeds the hungry at a soup kitchen churches have opened up. She gets up and says to God ...I put my confidence and trust in you alone. My God and my redeemer. I believe in you and want to do your will until you came back to take us home to heaven.

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. —Proverbs 31:10 27-28 (KJV) Thoughts on Today's Verse...
