Proverbs, Chapter 18

18:1 He who separates himself seeks [his own] desire, And rages against all sound wisdom.

18:2 A fool has no delight in understanding, But only that his heart may reveal itself.

18:3 When the wicked comes, there comes also contempt, And with ignominy [comes] reproach.

18:4 The words of a man's mouth are [as] deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is [as] a gushing brook.

18:5 To respect the person of the wicked is not good, [Nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment.

18:6 A fool's lips enter into contention, And his mouth calls for stripes.

18:7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.

18:8 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.

18:9 He also who is slack in his work Is brother to him who is a destroyer.

18:10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it, and is safe.

18:11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall in his own imagination.

18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; And before honor [goes] humility.

18:13 He who gives answer before he hears, It is folly and shame to him.

18:14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a broken spirit who can bear?

18:15 The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

18:16 A gift of man makes room for him, And brings him before great men.

18:17 He who pleads his cause first [seems] just; But his fellow man comes and searches him out.

18:18 The lot causes contentions to cease, And parts between the mighty.

18:19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city; And [such] contentions are like the bars of a castle.

18:20 A man's belly will be filled with the fruit of his mouth; With the increase of his lips he will be satisfied.

18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And those who love it will eat its fruit.

18:22 Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor of Yahweh.

18:23 The poor uses entreaties; But the rich answers roughly.

18:24 He who has many companions [does it] to his own destruction; But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Wonderful chapter. Proverbs is my favorite book of the Bible. A brother offended is harder to be won.... this is so true. Many in our churches offend others in their speech and even in their attitude. We always ask God to forgive us from offending Him and our brothers and sisters in the Lord. Of course.. we offend God in word, thought and deed.

The heart of a prudent gets knowledge.... it is the most interesting note I have red in Proverbs. We need to be prudent with our words, thoughts and ideas. God has given wisdom to do our best. Specially those in our church. Members and non members are watching us. We are a Bible to them. What kind of message are giving them when we yell or scream to our children when they nag? I must repent from all sin that my mouth has caused pain to others. Jesus hears everything we say and do.

A brother offended.. is one of the keys for all of us to pray every single day. Jesus said to love our fellow human beings just as we love Him. So many times we have offended our fellow church members. Talking back or saying things that Jesus would be ashamed of. Let us keep our tongue in check and not say things that offend others. Speak positively about other people and lift up their potential in service to God. Specially to young people... tell them to obey God above all things and serve Him with our whole heart.

Wow! father really knows how to hit the mark!

Thank you for this chapter today, there is much repenting for me to do, especially about talking before listening or understanding what was said!

Also I must praise and give Glory to father for working so many things through in me, creating changes in my heart , mind and attitude that I failed to realise until later, and am still recognising after reading these proverbs!

'With a greatful heart I Thank you father for your unseen work that goes on in my life and that of my beautiful brothers and sisters in jesus!'

All I wanted to say really.

Prov 18:15
The mind of the prudent is ever getting knowledge, and the ear of the wise is ever seeking (inquiring for and craving) knowledge.

i have not known this until now, i believe that when i did not consciously seek Him probably i will still be in the dark or blinded but praise Him i have overcome and forever grateful i was shown The Light ....

We really love this chapter. It tells us to love and care for our brothers and sisters in the Lord. Do no harm to no one. Be ready to answer to those who oppose the commands of the Lord. God is in control and we should be ready to obey His word at all times. Dear lord help us all to be all you wants to be and to obey your word . In Jesus name. Amen

Death and life are in the power of the tongue. 18.21 How are we using our tongue? It is to praise God and bless others or for other reasons? Dear Jesus, you are the source of all wisdom and love. Use our tongue to bless others, to witness the wonderful news of salvation to our next door neighbors. We acknowledge your sovereing power, your love, compassion and care for all of us. Makes us a light in this dark world where people are dying without being saved by the power of your mercy. I believe in you and trust that you will make a miracle in our lives and use us for your glory. Please, restore my desires to pray without ceasing and to know that you hear every single word we say to others. Help us to be a blessing and not a curse. A help in time of need. In Jesus precious name. Amen
