Beloved of All
🙇🏻Dear Lord Jesus in Heaven, thank You for warning us to beware of greed at all times, Lk 12:15. The goal of Your instruction is love 💕from a purified heart, a sincere faith and a good conscience, 1 Tim 1:5. The love of money is a scary thing to observe, having witnessed the truth of 1 Tim 6:9-10. Please "keep deception and lies far from us, give us neither poverty nor riches, but feed us what is sufficient for us," Prov 30:8. If riches increase, let us not set our heart on them, Ps 62:10, but rather be humble, know they are uncertain, and use them to be rich in good deeds, 1 Tim 6:17-18. Help us have contentment with godliness (which is a means of intangible riches), 1 Tim 6:6, since the entire earth is the Lord's, as well as those who dwell in it, Ps 24:1. Keep us from covetousness, Ex 20:17, and help us not love the world or anything in it lest the love of The Father be forfeited, 1 Jn 2:15. Help us see that is antithetical to our highest and chief goal to love You with everything we have and evangelize the lost and rub off Your love on our neighbors, Mark 12:30-31. Keep us from the desire for other things that choke out the Word of God, Mark 4:18-19. Keep us from temptation, Luke 11:4, sin, Zeph 3:13, 1 Cor 8:1, false believers, 2 Tim 3:5 and the evil one who blinds eyes, hearts minds and the world, Rev 12:9, Matt 6:13, John 17:15, 1 Jn 5:18. Thank You in Jesus' Name, Phil 4:6-7, Amen, Rev 3:14, 2 Cor 1:20.

We join you wholeheartedly in this prayer for protection from greed and for a heart that loves God fully, and we thank God for the way you have rooted your request in His Word.

We agree that greed is a subtle and dangerous snare. Jesus warned us plainly in Luke 12:15, Beware! Keep yourselves from covetousness, for a man's life doesn't consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses. Scripture also teaches that covetousness is idolatry in Col 3:5, and that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil in 1 Tim 6:10, which you have wisely observed in the lives of others. It pierces many through with sorrows and chokes the Word, as Jesus said in Mark 4:18-19, where the cares of this age, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Your prayer for the antidote is exactly what God commands. We are called first to love Him with everything we have in Mark 12:30, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength, and then to let that love overflow to our neighbors in Mark 12:31, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. When we love God this way, greed loses its power.

We pray together with you now. Father in heaven, we thank You for warning us to beware of greed at all times. We ask You to keep deception and lies far from us and give us neither poverty nor riches, but feed us with the food that is needful for us as You promise in Prov 30:8. If riches increase, help us not set our hearts on them according to Ps 62:10, but to be humble and to remember that riches are uncertain, and to be rich in good works as You instruct in 1 Tim 6:17-18. Teach us that godliness with contentment is great gain in 1 Tim 6:6, and help us to live in the truth that the earth is the Lord's, with its fullness, the world, and those who dwell therein in Ps 24:1. Keep us from covetousness which violates Your command in Ex 20:17, and help us not to love the world or the things that are in the world, so that the love of the Father may remain in us in 1 John 2:15. Guard us from temptation in Luke 11:4 and Matt 6:13, and keep us from the evil one as Jesus prayed in John 17:15, for we know that he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn't touch him in 1 John 5:18. Let the goal of Your instruction be fulfilled in us, love from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith in 1 Tim 1:5.

We rejoice that you have come in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12, and it is only through Him that we have access to the Father in John 14:6. We thank You, Father, that You hear us when we make our requests known to You, and Your peace which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus in Phil 4:6-7. May all Your promises find their Yes in Him in 2 Cor 1:20, for He is the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness in Rev 3:14. We ask all this in Jesus' name, Amen.

We were grateful to read your prayer. Your honesty about how easily the heart can drift toward wanting more, and your longing to love God fully and love your neighbor well, really stood out to us.

It makes sense that you named greed as something to watch for at all times. That pull to have more often comes from a quiet fear that what we have will not be enough, and generosity is one of the ways God loosens that grip. When we live knowing we are cared for even in unmet needs, we are freed to hold things more lightly and to use what we have to do good to others.

One small practice that has helped others with this same struggle is to build a simple pause into money decisions. Before a nonessential purchase or when you notice comparison or wanting rising up, take a moment to ask, is this helping me love God and love my neighbor today. And then choose one steady, doable way to practice generosity this month, whether helping a neighbor, giving quietly where there is need, or supporting the work of sharing the gospel, and let that be your antidote in action.

Father, we thank You for this heart that wants to be content and faithful. Keep deception far away and give what is sufficient for each day. Guard this brother or sister from the love of money and from desires that choke Your word, and form a deeper love for You and for neighbors. Make them rich in good deeds and steady in contentment. In Jesus name, amen.

We join with you in this prayer and give thanks that the Lord has taught you to watch against covetousness, for our Saviour said, Take heed and beware of covetousness, for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

You have prayed well, and according to the Scriptures. Contentment in all states is not a natural propensity of man. Covetousness, discontent and murmuring are as natural to us as thorns are to the soil, and we must be taught to acquiesce in the will and good pleasure of the Lord. As soon as we have a double stock of manna and begin to hoard it, it breeds worms and becomes a stench before God, so we do well to pray as Agur prayed, give me neither poverty nor riches, feed me with food convenient for me, and to ask the Lord to teach us how to be full and how to be hungry, how to abound and how to suffer need.

The antidote to this greed is that living, loving, lasting union with Christ of which the Scripture speaks. Unless we are linked to Christ we are driven from the presence of God, but being joined to Him we lay hold on eternal life, for He is that eternal life. In that union His love to us and our love to Him flow in the same channel and make one glorious stream. Then we love one another for Christ's sake, we love sinners for Christ's sake, and we love the truth as Christ loves the truth. Remember that God and mammon cannot abide in the same house. We serve a jealous God, and if we set up an idol upon His throne we shall soon hear His voice departing. If riches increase, set not your heart upon them, for they are uncertain, but be rich in good deeds, as those who know that the earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof.

So we pray with you that the Lord would keep deception and lies far from you, that He would keep you from the love of money which is the root of all evil and which drowns men in destruction, from the love of the world which chokes the Word, and from covetousness which breaks the tenth commandment. May He give you that contentment with godliness which is great gain, and that purified heart and good conscience and sincere faith from which true love proceeds. May He cause you to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength, and may that love overflow to your neighbour. For this is the fountain that must flow, He is a sun and He must shine, and His people reflecting His loving kindness are to evangelize the lost and to do good to all around them.

We commend you to the living God, who is not a dead force or a phantom of imagination, but a God with a great warm loving heart, a thinking, active, working, personal God who comes into the midst of this world. He will keep you from temptation and from sin, from false professors who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof, and from the evil one who blinds the minds of this world. He who holds you in His hand will not lose His members, and He hates putting away. May He guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus, in whose name every promise is yea and amen, to the glory of God. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer for protection from greed is wise and pleasing to God, and I join my voice with yours in asking Him to keep you.

You have rightly remembered the Lord's warning to be on guard against all greed, for a person's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions. Greed is a bitter slavery. It promises freedom and gain, but it enslaves the heart and makes us servants of money. It is also a darkness that does not let us see things as they truly are, and it is the root of all kinds of evil. Even a small love of money, not only the desire for great riches, can lead the soul astray, as we saw when thirty pieces of silver were enough to betray the Lord. For that reason we must cut out this passion entirely and rend its bargains in pieces.

The antidote you have named is the true one, to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. When the Lord directs our hearts into the love of God, that love drives out the love of money. Many things pull us away, especially the path of wealth and the desire for other things that choke the Word, but God is able to keep us. With Him we learn that contentment with godliness is great gain, and that whether He gives little or much, we can live without covetousness because He has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.

So I pray with you as you have asked, that God would keep deception and lies far from you, and give you neither poverty nor riches but only what is sufficient, that if riches should increase you would not set your heart on them but remain humble, remembering that all the earth is the Lord's, and be rich in good deeds. May He keep you from covetousness and from loving the world, from temptation and sin and the snares of the evil one, and keep your heart purified by sincere faith and a good conscience. May He teach you to use this world without abusing it, to hold what you have as though you did not possess it, and to let His love overflow from you to your neighbors and to the lost.

May the Lord grant you this contentment and steadfast love, and keep you blameless until the end, through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray, Amen.
