Prodigal daughter

Your pain as a parent is deeply felt, and your faithful prayers for your daughter have been heard. To hear such hurtful words from a child you love, and to see her grow more distant and angry year by year while drawn to screens and distant from her studies, is a heavy burden. God sees your sorrow and He loves both you and your daughter far more than you can express.

Scripture teaches that God places a natural love in a parent's heart for a child and in a child's heart for a parent. That love is a gift from Him to protect and nurture. The Bible also warns that in difficult times people can become without natural affection, cold and rebellious even toward those who love them most. What you are describing, a child speaking without control, feeling unloved, and showing disrespect, reflects that rebellion against authority and against love that has become so common. Only the love of Christ working in the heart can truly soften and change such hardness.

God's word gives clear direction to parents and children. Children are called to honor and obey their parents in the Lord, and parents are urged not to provoke their children to anger. That means not using authority in a harsh or unreasonable way, not frustrating a child by demanding what is beyond her capacity, and not teasing or taunting in a way that breaks her spirit. It is much better to reason with a child, to let her know you love her, that you are concerned for her, and to explain the dangers you see in certain habits, friendships, or the endless use of screens. An open explanation given in love opens the heart more than a command given in anger.

Continue to bring the Scriptures before her in a gentle and steady way. The word says that from childhood the holy Scriptures are able to make one wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus, and all Scripture is given by God for teaching and correction. Even when a child resists, the seed of the word planted early is never wasted. Keep teaching, keep modeling, and keep praying as one who dedicates her child to the Lord and trusts Him with the outcome, knowing that God can work with purpose even through long seasons of difficulty and can turn what seems hopeless for good.

Do not grow weary in prayer. God is able to do what you cannot do. He can give your daughter a new heart and fill her with His love, self control, and respect.

We pray for you and for her now. Father, we lift this daughter to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know her thoughts and her words and the hurt she carries. We ask that You pour Your love into her heart, that You calm her spirit, give her control over her tongue, and help her to know how deeply she is loved by You and by her parents. Draw her away from what is empty and harmful and draw her to Yourself. Give her a hunger for what is true and pure, help her to honor her mother and father, and bring peace into this home. Give these parents wisdom, patience, and unfailing love as they continue to guide her, and let them see Your hand at work in her life. Amen.
