Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and bringing these needs before the Lord. We join you in giving thanks to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for each day and for His mercy toward us.
We pray with you for the woman who is suffering with cramping in her stomach. Scripture shows us that God cares about our bodies and our infirmities, and that He often works through the care of physicians and through medicine for our healing and humbling. We ask the Lord to bring relief, to restore her to health, and to give wisdom to those caring for her, and we encourage her to continue to seek proper medical care.
We also pray for the man who is facing surgery, that the Lord would guide the hands of the surgeons, that the procedure would go as planned, and that He would grant a full and steady recovery. As you prayed for his medicines to be effective, we ask God to use those means for good, remembering that all healing ultimately comes from Him, whether He restores quickly or teaches us to trust Him through a longer infirmity.
We hear your sorrow for problems you have caused and your words to him asking forgiveness. It is good to confess where we have done wrong and to seek forgiveness. The Lord Jesus teaches us to come honestly, to receive His forgiveness for much greater debts than we can repay, and then to walk in gentleness and truth with others. If you have sinned against this man or against God, bring that fully to Christ, who alone saves, and trust His forgiveness. And if you have been sinned against, ask God to help you forgive as you have been forgiven.
Concerning your relationship, we want to care for you truthfully and lovingly. You spoke of telling him he is free to be with whomever he wants while you will always choose him if he chooses you. We understand the pain and longing in those words, but we cannot ask God to bless an arrangement that is outside His design. The Bible teaches that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that sexual intimacy and living together belong only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Love that honors God does not hold open the door to sexual freedom with others, nor does it wait in a way that keeps both of you from a clear and holy path. The most loving choice is to surrender your desires and his choices to the Lord, to pursue purity, and to seek either a God honoring marriage or a faithful singleness before Him. We pray that God will give you clarity, strength to set healthy and biblical boundaries, and peace to trust His will above any human relationship. If you are involved sexually or living together outside of marriage, we encourage you to step away from that and to seek pastoral counsel so you can pursue holiness and wholeness.
The church is like a place of healing where wounds received outside can be tended, not where new wounds are added. God is able to heal both body and soul, and He also uses seasons of waiting and even infirmity to teach us, to humble us, and to draw us closer to Christ. Whether He restores quickly or not, bearing our trials thankfully and turning from what is wrong opens the way for greater blessing.
So we pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your mercy. Have mercy on the woman who is in pain and restore her. Be with the man in surgery, grant skill to his doctors, effectiveness to proper treatment, and a full recovery according to Your will. Forgive sins as we confess them to You, teach us to forgive others, and lead us all into a life that pleases You. Guide our friend into Your truth regarding relationships and marriage, give wisdom and courage to walk in purity, and help all who need Your help today to find hope in You alone. Amen.
