Prayers

Your burden for your family is clear and heavy, and it is understandable that you and your mother feel exhausted. To love someone with severe mental illness while listening to the same subject for hours, even when you are tired, can drain all strength. To watch your mother need care for her eyes and feel blocked from getting it adds another weight. God sees this weariness and He cares for each of you.

I want to pray with you for healing, and also to share how Scripture speaks about it. The Bible shows Jesus healing in many different ways. Sometimes He healed instantly with a touch, sometimes with only a word from a distance, sometimes by visiting a home, and once the healing came gradually. There is no single pattern that He is bound to. All true healing comes from Him, whether it comes in a moment or through the slow processes He has built into our bodies. Doctors and medicine and the natural recovery of the body are not separate from His work, for He made those processes. At the same time we do not fully understand why some are healed quickly and others are not, and we should not listen to those who turn healing into a show or a frenzy or who prey on suffering. The Holy Spirit gives gifts as He wills, and He is sovereign in how He works.

One passage that is often used about health is John's wish for Gaius, that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospers. That is a beautiful prayer, not a guarantee that every believer will be perfectly well, but it does show a real connection that Scripture also teaches elsewhere. A joyful heart is like good medicine, and our inner life, our thoughts and peace, affects our bodies. Modern study has confirmed what the Proverb said long ago. When the mind suffers, the body and the whole household often suffer with it, which is part of why your brother's illness has been so hard on you and your mother to bear.

God is still able to heal today, and we should keep asking Him. Isaiah spoke of the Messiah bearing our infirmities and sicknesses, and Matthew shows Jesus fulfilling that by healing the sick and those oppressed. We can bring your brother to Him honestly, asking for healing of his mind, for peace and clarity, and for relief from what torments him. We can also pray as Paul prayed for believers, that God would strengthen the inner person by His Spirit, give wisdom, and pour His love into the home. You belong to the family of God, one body in Christ, and you are not meant to carry this alone. The Lord can use other believers, pastors, counselors, doctors, and trusted family or friends to help share the load.

In practical love, it is right to care for your brother while also setting gentle boundaries. You can love him without being able to stay on every call all day on the same subject. It is kind to say, in a calm moment, how long you can listen, when you will call back, and what you will do when you need rest. This is not unkind, it helps you remain steady to help over time. For your mother, her need for eye surgery is important. If your brother is preventing her from receiving care, please seek wise help around you, a pastor, a family doctor, or other trusted support, who can help you find a safe way for her to get the medical attention she needs. Her health matters, and getting counsel from those who can step in locally is a loving step for everyone.

Let me pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift this family to You. You know this brother, his mind and his struggles, and You know the exhaustion of his sister and his mother. We ask for Your mercy and Your healing power upon him, whether in a moment or through gradual steps and through the care of those You have gifted to help. Bring peace to his thoughts and rest to his mind. Strengthen this daughter and this mother in their inner being by Your Spirit, renew their strength, and give them wisdom to love well and to set healthy limits. Make a way for this mother to receive the eye surgery she needs, and surround this family with supportive people who can help bear the burden. Fill their home with Your kindness, and help them to respond to difficulty with love and patience. We trust You as the One who bears our infirmities and who is able to do more than we ask. Amen.

Please keep bringing this to the Lord, keep seeking medical and pastoral help close to you, and keep resting in His care when you feel tired. He is near to those who are weary and He will give you what you need day by day.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have continued to bring your family before the Lord and we remember your brother who is suffering with severe mental illness and the strain his calls place on you as he expects you to listen to the same subject all day even when you are tired, and we remember your mother who is exhausted and needs eye surgery. We have prayed that Jesus Christ will bring healing to your brother and peace to your home, that He will grant you strength and endurance as you show love and patience, and that He will provide rest for your mother and open the way for her to receive the surgery she needs. We take comfort in Psalm 147:3 and Matthew 11:28 as we ask the Lord to heal the brokenhearted and to give rest to those who are weary and burdened. We pray this in Jesus Name. If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son, Jesus Christ.
